Live From New York Part II- It's the CEW Beauty Awards for 2008

The CEW Beauty Insider's Choice Awards is one of the highlights of the year in beauty. In my Last Post I shared the 2008 CEW Awards Finalists. Now it's time to share the winners. But before the actual awards ceremony, there's a cocktail hour and a chance for the press to photograph some of the presenters. Here's Kylie Bax, wearing a vintage Chanel dress.


The delightful (and funny) Sex and The City star, Mario Cantone has been the Master of Ceremonies for the past four years. This year he was as witty as ever, and seemed to have a special chemistry with (America's Next Top model) Presenter, Caridee English. "If only I was straight" Cantone quipped as Caridee, laughed.

Once everyone settled into the ballroom, the very short speeches began. Here's Allure Beauty Editor Linda Wells making some opening remarks. One fact that struck me was that there are something like 32,510 blogs dedicated to beauty, with 13,00 dedicated just to hair!

With 135 finalists in 27 separate categories, it's challenging to keep the awards show moving forward on schedule, but this years show moved briskly, with short introductions and even shorter speeches by the winners. Clearly, executives in the beauty business world know how to say "thanks" with precision and grace. Last years coveted awards were designed by Lalique and featured a woman's torso. This year, the awards were Tiffany crystal and were large, round, flat disks. You can see some of them on Mario Cantone's podium, and also on the table to the right of him. Winning one of these awards isn't just a pretty thing to put on a shelf in the office. The CEW Beauty Insiders Choice Awards are really is "the Oscars" of the beauty world. The pink CEW seal that winners can proudly display on their product shows that the product is one of the best of the best. Press overage of the Beauty Award Winners reaches upwards of 150 million consumers, so it's a big deal to win. I'm pleased to be a part of this and share both the event, and products with my readers in this blog and the What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review columns.
