Ports 1961 Opens New Store and Atelier in Manhattan's MeatPacking District

One of my favorite designers is Tia Cibani of Ports 1961. Her flattering, luxe, and sophisticated clothes are wearable, but you won't see yourself coming and going in them. That's why I'm really excited about the opening of the Ports 1961 New York Boutique at 3 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan's meatpacking district. The store is set to open during Fashion Week, so mark your calendars, now.

The 1850s masonry building, reflects designer Tia Cibani’s vision of the modern global woman. It was conceived as a private boudoir for exploring the Collection. An adjacent triangular lot and landscaped courtyard, created through a reconfiguration of streets in the early 20th century, have been integrated with "the old house" to provide a more generous, unfolding environment with a distinct street presence -- a venue that beautifully blends history and high fashion together.

From this artist's rendition, you can have a preview of what the corner entrance will look like. If you want to know specifics, the press literature says: "A flush brownstone base and lintel frame the ashlar pattern brick entry, while a new metal cornice articulates the top. On Gansevoort Street, a graphic, 36-ft.-long, single-storey storefront in burnished metal functions as a changeable proscenium frame for the brand. Six sliding, vertically-ribbed panels may be either aligned to form a uniformly translucent façade, or overlap to create a more layered collage. Around the perimeter of the storefront frame, zinc mesh panels and a rooftop metal lattice will support a wisteria façade. The entrance area opens into a relaxed lounge area with an open-air courtyard and seating. New openings through the original masonry walls enfold the formerly separate courtyard within the meandering interior. Rendering the space as a flowing progression of interconnected rooms, suspended graphic scrims map a narrative of lifestyle and Collection display. "

The Second Floor serves as the designers’ atelier as well as a private viewing lounge for VIP appointments.

Inside, you can look forward to seeing vibrant natural materials including a Peruvian Walnut floor and the warm taupe walls and ceiling. Signature display fixtures are inspired by the draping techniques of the Ports 1961 Collection. There are low-rise freestanding walnut display platforms that frame the perimeter of the space. A unique, torquing satin nickel hangbar forms a rhythmic display ribbon against metallic sheer wall curtains, giving shoppers a glimpse of the front side of each garment."
