Women's Health April 2009 Beauty Flip Issue is Fabulous

Last May I attended an event at Women's Health Magazine's offices, with Women's Health Editors and Keri Glassman M.S., R.D., C.D.N. (and she's on staff of Womens' Health magazine as well as being an author, and a nutritionist with a consulting practice). We were there to hear Keri's take on how to eat healthier in quick and easy ways, and also to celebrate a unique feature: the very first Food Flip issue. The "flip" features one side of the magazine with the regular Women's Health format, but turn it over and upside down, and the other side had food-related topics.

Now Women's Health has created another "FLIP" issue for April 2009: a Beauty Flip! It features 36 pages of articles and information related to beauty.

A can't-miss part of the issue is BEAUTY’S NEXT BEST THINGS (Page 34). The Editors of Women’s Health reveal the 10 most anticipated beauty product launches/releases for 2009 (all hitting the market this year or just have) . Those products are featured in the photo, and in case you haven't subscribed to Women's Health yet (but you should, it's a great read), here are the top 10 as they see it:

1. Sally Hansen’s Instant Dri Nail Color: 30-second manicure formula

2. Estee Lauder’s Time Zone: NEW wrinkle-preventing protein

3. Organic bronzing spray: Go GREEN when you’re going bronze

4. Latisse – the first FDA-approved prescripstion eeyelas treatment for longer, lusher lashes minus the mascara)

5. Professional Série Expert Volume Expand: calcium-infused shampoos and styling products that strengthen hair and silica to smooth cuticles

6. Schick Quattro for Women TrimStyle: Two-in-one hair removal; wet and dry razor in one

7. CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain: ALL-day lip color that will leave your lips smooth and pucker-ready into the evening

8. 3Lab’s new “M” Cream: anti-aging stem-cell infused products

9. iLift Skincare System: DIY laser treatments

10. Reloxin: longer-lasting Botox
I try new products every single day, but I haven't actually reviewed all of the above in my bi-monthly What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion Review columns, or on this blog. There are so many new products out on the market every single week, and not all are equally great. It helps to read lists like these. I don't know what the Editor's criteria were for rating these products, but just remember that while the Editors are experienced experts, the quality of beauty products is often highly subjective. Check out the Editor's suggestions, and choose a few that you might like to try. The prices range from just a few dollars, to several hundred for devices and treatment. As with my own reviews, I urge you to be a sensible and responsible consumer. Look at the labels, ask questions at the counter, try samples whenever possible, use regularly and as directed. Most importantly, the best product in the world won't be good for you if it's not the right type for your skin, your lifestyle, and your budget. Choose carefully and you will reap the benefits.

The Beauty Flip issue also features an article on what the Women's Health Editors think are the products for your complexion. Some of these excellent products have been reviewed already in the Advice Sisters What Works Columns, so check the What Works column archives . Check the Advice Sisters reviews to learn more about the ones I loved!
