BagTrends Green Arm Candy Party is a Green Delight

The 13th may seem unlucky, but April 13th was a lucky day for those of us who love eco-chic at the first BagTrends Green Arm Candy Party (a spinoff of the original BagTrends Arm Candy Party) at the Union Square Ballroom. The event, hosted by the friendly and fabulous co-founders of BagTrends.com, Pamela Pekerman and Michelle Finkelshteyn, were there of course. I attended the press preview, but the event was open to the public (if you RSVP'd in time). Worth it for free drinks, discounts, networking and general fun!

When I left, the place was absolutely buzzing with guests.

There were plenty of sustainable bag and jewelry designers and free cocktails. The earlybirds waited eagerly for free manicures in a relaxing lounge area.

Although most of the displays were of handbags (it was BagTrends party, after all), there were a few accessories as well. One of the companies displaying wares to check out and to purchase was Creollus. They have one-of-a-kind accessories and home accents made out of all sorts of natural materials from Brazil. These bracelets are made from rubber inner-tubes.

I was surprised to find my friend, Chris Lee selling these adorable Rume (ReUseMe), packable, re-useable totes. There are a variety of sizes to lug just about anything, anywhere. Practical and pretty!

I also really liked Jane Marvel's totes and bags (Jane Saidenberg, the designer, is on the left). These are vegan, and lightweight, beautifully made, and under $100!
I also had a chance to talk to William D. Spielfogelm, a podiatrist who has developed a line of Nail Polishes that are good for your nails (they help fight fungus and don't have harsh chemicals) and are good and green, too!

Teens Teens Turning Green displayed their petition called Lips Against Lead. You can sign it online and download instructions on how to set up a movement to promote safer lipsticks. It is nice to see young women doing something they feel is positive, instead of just hanging out and text-ing each other. At the event, you could leave your "kiss" imprint on the petition itself. I signed mine in green with a green heart. I took a photo of Amber from Beauty Blogging Junkie as she added her lips of approval to the petition!
Can't wait for the next party!
