Backstage Beauty, Liquid Metal Runway Show Spring 2010

Backstage beauty is an important part of a designer's overall look on the runway. Sergio Gutierrez's Liquid Metal Runway show featured show-stopping accessories and fashions created with metal mesh. His classic designs have a following that collect pieces to be worn for years and years. Guitierrez's mesh creations adorn everything from camisoles and jeans, to dresses and of course, jewelery. Hair and makeup had to be dramatic to stand up to these unique and powerful designs. Here are the basics of backstage beauty for the Sergio Gutierrez Spring 2010 Runway Show:

To compliment the sexy, silver (and some gold) metal mesh creations, a modern version of the Robert Palmer Girl was created by Gilbert Soliz, with the Sephora Pro beauty team.




The finished look included classic, bold red lips. But the emphasis was on porcelain skin lit that Soliz proclaimed was "lit from within." There is a big emphasis on beautiful skin that looks fresh (not shiny), for Spring 2010. The look was created with Sephora hydrating liquid foundation, with a bit of concealer under eyes, and mineral pressed powder buffed on top (with brush) to give the face a polished look. There was no blush in this look, a trend that I saw on many runways (highlight and sheer, dewy bronzers add color instead of traditional blush). A blue-based bold red lipstick by Kat Von D (exclusive to Sephora) called "Under Age" adds a modern touch to the Palmer-inspired lip. On eyes, Soliz used a lash plumper mascara that colors, lengthens and curls.






Whitney Blischke from Toni & Guy Salon did a twisted, roughed up double ponytail. The look was a sleek ponytail that had knots through the ends for texture. But the Robert Palmer-esque strength and sleekness was roughed up a bit for softness. TIGI products used included S Factor Body Booster (for hold and shine) and a product whose name I really love: "Shiny Happy People Aerosol Spray" (for more shine).



Darian Bishop, Director of the Toni & Guy Advanced Academy , told me that T&G is about to open their first salon on East Coast (at Maxwell Place in Hoboken NJ). The new salon will be right near the ferry terminal, for those who don't live in Hoboken, and who don't drive and don't like to take the PATH train. We can't wait to see the new digs!
