My Zerona The Zerona Laser Update - Treatment Day ONE
This morning I had my first Zerona Laser Treatment. I prepared for it by taking a bunch of herbal, nutritional supplements last week, throughout Fashion Week. I will continue to be taking them until they're gone. I think I have about half a bottle of each, left, so that should take me through the two weeks of treatments I'm going to be experiencing.
I promised I'd chronicle the process, especially since I have gotten so many inquiries and searches on this Advice Sisters Blog for "Zerona Laser." Obviously, a lot of people are curious about the treatment, how it works, and if it works. I came armed with a video camera to record Dr. Ungaro talking about the Zerona laser, but as it turns out, there is already a short video featuring Dr. Nicholas Ungaro of Better Body Solutions, talking about the procedure.
After I entered the room with the laser, Yvonne, the technician trained by the company to use the Zerona laser and who will be administering my treatments, took some measurements (as a benchmark to see how many inches I may lose) and then she marked my skin with a surgical pen. She also took photographs. Even though they didn't include a full body with my head, it was a bit alarming! Then, all I had to do is lie back on a table, plug in my iPod, and relax as the laser was pointed first at one side of my body, and then the other. The first thing that popped onto my iPod was "Love Shack" by the B-52s, not really all that relaxing--and you really can't move around too much as the laser is focused on you. But I also listened to some Bach, Chopin, and some Guitar Shorty (my favorite bluesman) and before I knew it, my 40-minute session was up! I didn't feel anything at all. The laser is silent, so you don't even know it's on, or not on (but the beam is set for 20 minutes and 20 minutes, automatically). Thankfully, Yvonne never left the room, so I was monitored at all times. The most humiliating part was having to lie there with my marked-up stomach exposed. A small price to pay.
After the first treatment, Yvonne told me to drink at least 6-8 8 oz glasses of water a day, very important since the waste fat from my cells is going to be draining out through my lymphatic system. I was also told to massage my skin for 10 minutes each day (ostensibly to push any fat, downwards towards lymph nodes so it can be carried out of my body). And, I was given a list of suggested foods and foods to stay away from. To me, the suggested foods seem to focus mostly on lean protein and veggies which would be a healthy diet anyway, even if you weren't having a laser treatment. Foods to temporarily avoid include pasta, bread, potatos, crackers, fast food, corn, beans (except green beans) and refined sugar. Almost every diet limits sugar and carbs, so this wasn't especially surprising, either.
If you drink lots of water and eat a healthy diet, you should look and feel better without the laser, but it's doubtful that you can lose up to 6 inches in two weeks with just a diet like this by itself. I asked Yvonne if she ever had someone come in who didn't lose anything...and she said "no." While I am still dubious, I'm following directions, and I'm hoping for the best!
Here's a short video of Dr. Nicholas Ungaro talking about the Zerona Laser. More on Wednesday, after my next treatment.
