Gucci's FLORA Pleases Women of All Generations
Gucci's iconic, Flora pattern (originally in a silk scarf specifically designed for Princess Grace of Monaco in 1966) and used to the present day in accessories and ready-to-wear, is the inspiration for a new fragrance for women, by Gucci.
Flora, P&G Prestige Products, is classified as a floral: ladylike, feminine and pretty. It is the type of fragrance that can cross over between generations, shared by a mother with a discerning daughter. It has classic elements, but what makes it a cross-over to younger women is that it has more modern elements, too.
When you first spray FLORA, there is an immediately discern able smell of fruit mixed with flowers. In fact, the top notes are citrus and peony. But it gets more complex at the heart, when these notes are mixed with rose and osmanthus flower. You can sense the light, fruit and fruity quality of the rose, but it is immediately countered with the velvety, leathery aspects of the osmanthus. The base is a lovely counterpoint of sandalwood and patchouli (signatures of the Gucci fragrance world.). The result is not a classic floral at all, but one with playful and sensual notes as well. The scent is light enough for daytime, but impressive enough for evening. When I smell Flora, I feel the desire to dress up in a cocktail dress, or a silky pant outfit, and go somewhere special.
The packaging is lovely, too. Each product in the range has some variation of Giannini’s new black and white Flora design. The Eau de Toilette I tried features a crisp white box with Gucci’s signature web striping detail in a new black and gold format. The lining of the box has a delicate, black and white floral design. The perfume bottle itself is a clear chunk of shiny glass in a hexagonal shape,w ith a hexagonal black top on the spray diffuser. A thin, woven black ribbon is tied into a bow around the neck of the bottle, tipped with gold bamboo "tassels." The font gold logo was appropriated from the script of Guccio Gucci’s own signature. Even if you can't afford a Gucci Scarf like Princess Grace, and legions of other sophisticated women throughout the decades, you might just be able to afford a piece (or several pieces) from the Flora collection. It will envelop you, and you'll fall in love with it. The very nice Body Lotion is just $45.00, the Shower Gel $38.00.
I am willing to bet that Princess Grace would have loved to wear FLORA! It makes an impressive gift, too.
