DIY Your Brows with the Christi Harris Brow Kit

I am not a fan of putting sharp objects close to my eye, but after seeing makeup artist extraordinaire, Christi Harris's new Brow Planing System, I may just feel bold enough to DIY my brows, at home this season.



The first reason I like this kit is Christi, Herself. She exudes charm, and confidence and makes you feel that you can really take matters into your own hands. With the economy being still stuck in the dumps, DIY is a reality for many people whether they feel ready, or not.

The second is her new, Brow Planing System kit that I got to try (with Christi's guidance). She took me through all the steps that her new kit offers, and you know what? It wasn't hard or time consuming at all!


The compact, all-in-one kit has a cheerful, white, goldenrod and black graphic design, and interior mirror (although I suggest you use a bigger one) and a magnetic closure. The focal point is the brow planer, a little, covered, razor, that helps you remove excess brow hair in seconds. You can use it for facial hair elsewhere, as well if you have spot cleanup to do. The kit also has two dual-ended, and one definer, brush. They do double-duty as eye makeup brushes, too. There's a Color Blend Trio, basically tri-shaped wedges of brown/blonde/brunette pressed powder that you can mix and match to meet the color needs of your own, unique brows. Another pan has a slightly waxy product called Adda Brow, that has tiny fibers to help you fill in sparse areas in your brows (most people have a few). Another pan holds a pressed powder called Diffusing Powder Do, with two medium and light shades of highlighter that you add as a final step over your brows when they're just about done, to soften the color and make brows look super-natural. You can use the Diffusing Powder (and all of the colors in the Color Blend Trio) as eye shadow, as well. You also get a book, to guide you.



You get a lot of products, and the kit is so compact, you can take it with you when you travel. There really are just three steps to a fully-groomed brow: Design, Define, Diffuse the color.


The planer is the key to grooming the brows, and I have to say, I am not sure I want to shape mine in a major way by myself. Christi insists it is easy to figure out how to shape your own brows, but I still think it's best to leave that for a pro. However, at the demonstration I attended, the woman after me was complaining that every time she goes for a brow wax, they remove a lot more of her brows than she likes and she can't get them to stop. For her, letting brows grow out and then shaping them as she likes them, would be a huge plus. So for anyone in her situation (or for guys who simply can't bring themselves to go out in public and ask for a wax--but need it), this kit is a godsend. And, I think for maintenance, it is a super idea. No plucking or waxing, and no pain, redness or waiting for re-growth because you pulled out your hair, literally, by the roots! The line you get with the planer is perfectly straight, and immediately clean. It's a lot easier to use the planer to get stray hairs that are growing in, than trying to pick out and pluck those tiny, individual hairs that are frustrating to grasp.
