Dolce & Gabbana Rose The One Rocks the Romantic Rose

Roses are beautiful, and romantic. Who doesn't love bending down to sniff a beautiful rose?  But when it comes to rose themed fragrances, I have found that people either love them, or loathe them.  Perhaps the reason is that the glorious scent of a rose isn't just one scent.  Roses come in a huge variety, including some with very spicy scents, and some that are more ladylike and sweet.  Some roses don't have any scent at all, and I have to admit, I've smelled some roses that smelled like they were withered on the bush, even though they were very much alive!

The classic rose from generations past was generally one that was robust and intense.  These scents always remind me of grand dames. I envisioned them sweeeping into a room, announcing both their entrance and exit, with a cloud of rose scent.

Modern women, however, want to smell beautiful, but perhaps be a bit more subtle.  If you love roses, you can enjoy a thoroughly modern homage to the flower:  Dolce & Gabbana Rose The One.  The original Dolce & Gabbana The One fragrance is a favorite of mine, gourmand-like, creamy, and delicious. This new scent, however, is light, and has a fruity friendship with the rose. You'll smell roses, but there are complimentary notes that enhance, and entice. The actual  top notes are pink grapefruit manadarin and cassis. The heart is peony, lily, lychee and Bulgarian rose. The drydown has a hint of vanilla, musk and amber. The sophisticated blend is light enough for day and romantic enough for evening. What I like so much about Dolce & Gabbana Rose The One is that it is essentially a floral with fruit, not just rose, even though the star note is Bulgarian rose (see the photo, above).  This exceptional rose scent, is neither sweet nor childlike, nor will it make you smell like you're ready for the senior center!

I tried the Perfumed Body Lotion $45.00 200 ml. I like scented body lotions not just because they're great for dealing with dry skin, but also because they're a great layering piece. On a practical note, if you don't care for the intensity of regular fragrances, or your budget makes them prohibitive, body lotions and other bath & body products are a less expensive option.

I love the packaging on this one. The rose gold metallic carton opens to reveal a blush pink bottle, with a rose gold cap and rose gold lettering. The bottle reminds me of an antique dressing table set I saw in a shop, once. It's just a bit retro, and very feminine, pluys it's a non-breakable addition to your dressing table. Although it might be unintentional on the part of the creators, the bottle has a bit of "give" so you don’t have to struggle and vigorously shake the bottle to get the precious contents out, and onto your skin. The Body Lotion itself is very silky, and face absorbing. I didn't try the actual Eau de Parfum Spray, just the body lotion, but I'm guessing that the actual fragrance is a bit stronger....and this body lotion leaves your skin nicely scented by itself.

This is a lovely addition to your collection if you love roses. It's romantic for Valentines Day (coming up February 14th) and a pick-me-up product that will make you feel pretty, and pretty special, all Winter Long.

Find Dolce & Gabbana Rose the One at Sephora and department stores.
