Backstage at the
Carolina Herrera Runway Show Fall Fashion Week 2009 -An Advice Sisters
Feature (exclusive video)
*text and photos by Alison Blackman Dunham
Carolina Herrera's elegant designs make any
woman look and feel extravagant, glamorous and sophisticated. I had some
time, backstage, to check out the nails, hair and makeup For her Fall
2009 Runway Show.
I was always told that you could tell a well
groomed lady by looking at her shoes, and her nails. Although it
was almost pitch-dark on the runway, with just a simple spotlight
following the models as they walked, nails are an important part of the
overall look. The polish of choice for the Fall 2009 Carolina
Herrera Runway Show was a classic color from Creative Nail Design (the
nail company of the runways for Fashion Week) called Serenity.
Wanda from Creative Nail Design holds a bottle of the coveted, creamy
beige that's a bit sheer. To get the model's hands dry quickly,
she used Creative Nail Design's "Air Dry" as a clear, top coat.
This season, For Fall Fashion Week 2009, I
partnered with television personality Cognac Wellerlane to bring a video
crew backstage. Now, Advice Sisters readers (and Cognac's
readers) can get a true taste of the action! In the video below, I
interview M.A.C. makeup artist Romero Jennings, and Wanda Ruiz from Creative Nail Design, and
I am interviewed by Ms.
Wellerlane after the show. You will also get a front-row seat for
a segment of the actual runway show! Click the arrow!
The Makeup was done by Diane Kendal for M.A.C.
Cosmetics. Check out the Face Chart
and Makeup Description, directly from M.A.C! The
look focused on really beautiful, dewy skin that had a luminous glow, as
directed by Carolina Herrera. Diane skillfully used a shimmer
pencil on the inside of the lower eyelid. To allow the
spotlight to pick up a shimmer as the models walked the runway, she used
a white, frosted M.A.C. Pigment on the brow bone and as an accent
on the cheeks.
M.A.C.'s new and wonderful makeup, Studio Sculpt,
was lightly applied to the model's faces, and 'Hand Finish," a
M.A.C. Mineralize Blush in a warm peachy brown, warmed cheeks. The
white, frosted M.A.C. Pigment added a luminous glow on
cheekbones. M.A.C. lipstick in “Twig” plus a high-tech
"Dazzle Glass" Lip Gloss in berry, finished the polished but still
fresh-looking face.
"Copper" was the word for hair. It featured
prominently in the elegant, elaborate buns created by stylist Orlando
Pita. The section where hair was being done was completed
sectioned-off from the place where nails and makeup were finished. It
was so crowded backstage that I never got a chance to talk to
Orlando Pita, or watch him work. But, as you can see by these photos,
however, coppery rose hairclips and tons of small, copper bobby pins
made the evening look warm and inviting, but still very modern and
elegant.
Backstage, at the end of the very successful
show, there are always congratulations. Carolina Herrera gives out
hug to a friend.
