Tory Burch is not just a fashion designer, she's also a celebrity
and a socialite. Her designs, popular with an upscale audience, were
influenced by her life with glamorous parents who were
part of the Hollywood celebrity culture and Philadelphia society.
Her fashion label was launched in 2004 and she has won several
fashion awards for her designs. She's known for her modern-preppy,
pretty designs, bright tunics, bold accessories, and colorful Reva
ballet flats. However, for Fall, 2009,
Burch tones down the color and ramps up the "edgy" look with sexy but
wearable fashions for day to evening, featuring boots, studs, and
tailored sportswear and dresses.
Hair and makeup must coordinate with the looks. For Tory Burch's Fall
2009 presentation at the Prince George Ballroom, hair stylist Yannick
D'Is created the look for Redken. The concept for Tory's presentation was
youthful but glamorous, natural, but a bit edgy.

For the Hair, Yannick designed a side part that was a bit asymmetrical, with
lots of texture in the hair. The loose, long style
accomplished the goal of being "natural" (with a great stylist's touch,
of course) but artfully undone. "Amazing, but accessible, not
crazy" is how Yannick explained it. The key product in this
look is
Redken's Fabricate 03,
applied after hair was curled with a hot
iron. This styling product protect hair from hair styling tools
and is a popular staple backstage at Fashion Week.
The Model's hair
was left "set" until just time for the presentation, then loosely
brushed out into luxurious, shiny, flowing waves reminiscent of Veronica
Lake or, perhaps, Jessica Rabbit. "Waves are going to be big for Fall
2009" says Yannick, so get your products and curling irons, ready.
You can create a modified version of this look with a large-barrel
curling iron, Fabricate 03 by Redken, and a little patience!
The loose, textured hair balanced the strong eye and slightly sparkly
face makeup created by makeup artist Diane Kendal for M.A.C. Cosmetics.

The makeup look called for a smoky black eye with
"Smoulder" pencil underneath the eye, and a and black gold
shimmer shadow called "Gilt." The look features no mascara ("No
mascara gives the face an edgier look" says Diane Kendal). The skin
was flattered by
M.A.C. Studio Sculpt Foundation , tried and tweaked by makeup
artists at numerous test runs backstage at Fashion week in previous
seasons. The blush, called 'Hand Finish," is a glorious peach with
flecks of gold shimmer. Concealer was used to nude out the model's lips,
after which a new M.A.C. Cremesheen Glass called "Boy Bait," was
applied. It' a sheer, nude/pink Lip Gloss and hands-down, the most
popular one used on runways for Fall 2009 was applied (it'll be a
must-have for your makeup bag).
The polished look is feminine, sexy, but still natural and not
overly fussy. The hair and makeup look beautiful, and work nicely with
the Tory Burch fashions.
