"What
Works" - How to Beat Jet Lag
| Anyone who travels knows the havoc
"jet lag" can cause to your body, your psyche and your
skin! No matter what you do, on a long trip the chances are good
that you will end up stumbling off the airplane exhausted, a little
disoriented and with skin that feels uncomfortably dry and itchy.
Many travel "gurus" have explanations as to why this occurs,
but though there are many products and remedies on the market which
purport to stop or mitigate jet lag and it's nasty side-effects,
THE ADVICE SISTERS haven't found anything on the market that actually
"works." |
|
So what's a traveler to
do?
While we can't promise you'll
eliminate jet lag altogether, try beating it with these simple
tips (yes, they do work!):
|
- Wear comfortable layered clothing onboard
so you can adjust yourself comfortably to the cabin temperature
as the trip goes along.
|
- We suggest that (on long flights) you wear
soft and flexible shoes onboard, and bring slipper socks to
keep comfortable (feet swell in the air). Be sure to get up
and WALK every hour or so to keep the circulation going in your
body, and you may keep the swelling down to a minimum.. Remember
to put your shoes back on at least a half and hour before landing
or you may have trouble getting them back on!
|
- The super-dry air will dehydrate your body
and your skin. Drink plenty of WATER during the flight, even
if you don't feel thirsty. Carry a tube of moisturizer (particularly
if the flight is very long) and a small spray bottle of sterile
water (E.g. Evian). Use them often on your face and hands during
the flight to keep them hydrated (it feels great too!)
|
- Drinking alcohol may make the flight speed
by, but you'll hate the way you feel whenyou "come back
to Earth." The effects of drinking are magnified at high
altitudes, and alcohol also dehydrates you. Resist the urge
to drink alcoholic beverages during the flight.
|
-
Bring some
healthy snacks and avoid the airplane food
|
- Bring earplugs or a walkman to drown out
cabin noises. If possible, skip the movie and get some sleep!
