family at the beach   Be Safer in the Sun This Summer:  A large percentage of the UVA/UVB rays we absorb from the sun don't come from baking in it, but just by walking around , outside.  Alas, what you can't see can still hurt you --the rays are there, even if it's a cloudy day. And, even if you tan, your skin is still vulnerable! This column has products to help you stay safer in the sun, and enjoy Summer's pleasures.  CLICK HERE for tips to help you protect you from the sun, premature aging, and help prevent skin cancer

"MUST-HAVE" SUN SCREENS/ SUN BLOCKS WITH SPF

Sometimes the Advice Sisters get a product to review that really surprises us.  One such product is Natural Defense SPF 25 Moisturizer $35.00 by Prana SpaCeuticals . The company, new to our column,  sells to spas and salons, and you can buy online, too.  The entire line is based on botanicals (good for your skin).  The Natural Defense SPF 25 moisturizer is a lightweight, anti-oxidant rich lotion in a nice, amber pump bottle. As a multi-tasking moisturizer, it features Wild Pansy Root (used to soothe acne flare ups and prevent breakouts and skin irritations), Grape Seed Extract (antioxidant), Plantain and Comfrey (to boost the growth of healthy, new skin cells), and Licorice Root (emollient).  Other moisturizers in this one are: Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride (a highly refined oil), Rice Bran Oil, Sesame Seed oil.  To protect from the sun, Natural Defense SPF 25 has Green Tea extract and Rhatany Root extract, a natural sunscreen with very good UV absorption properties (but it allows some of the pigmenting part of light to pass through, so you can get a little tan).  The product also has Micronized Titanium Dioxide which doesn't disappear with perspiration. I really liked the fruity coconut smell of this product, but here's the surprise: a dear friend and her 9 year old son with me when this product arrived, so well all tried it. We loved the lightweight texture and the cent, but amazingly, the boy absolutely loved this!  Who would have thought?  He liked it so much he asked if he could have the bottle. Reluctantly, I gave it up. A child certainly doesn't need a moisturizer as much as an adult, but if he likes it enough to use it all the time, the good SPF protection will help keep him safer from the sun. So Prana is family friendly, too!

One way to get the most reluctant to wear sun screen is to offer an easy and clean way to apply it. That's just one of the reasons I like the Sun Performance Multi Protection Sun Spray Oil-Free SPF 15 Sunscreen $22.00 4.2 fl. oz.  by Estee Lauder. A cool looking orange plastic pump bottle with white cap looks cheerful, and dispenses a lightly scented, crystal clear, refreshing, oil-free liquid with SPF 15. The product also has a nice feature--an " Anti-Spot Protection" that helps prevent sun spots and patchiness, so your exposure to the sun is more even. The formula is Water resistant formula also helps protect with advanced anti-oxidants and refreshing moisturizers. If you haven't made up your mind to sue sunscreen every day (and you should), this is an easy, effective and pleasant way to get in the habit. For times when you're going to be in the sun for longer periods of time, we also like the Estee Lauder Sun Performance Multi-Protection Sun Lotion for the Body SPF 30 $22.00 5 fl. oz . The cheerful bright orange tube with white cap flips open so you can do it with one hand The rich, white lotion is fast absorbing, non-greasy and has a light and pleasant, refreshing scent which we think is a real bonus over the usual, chemical smell you fid in many sun screens! Both the Face and the Body Estee Lauder sun protections products are silky, easy to apply and fast absorbing so you won't continually remember you've got sunscreen on. Your ski will be moisturized, and protected, and ready for a great, even tan (although we don't suggest sunbathing for prolonged periods of time, sunblock or not). A good quality sunblock is a nice way to start the day...apply one of these, every day, and save your skin.

Last month we reviewed some amazing, new, luxury skincare products from MyBlend by Dr. Olivier Courtin.  This month, we're pleased to report on another product from this skincare line: Power Veil SPF 40 – UVA-UVB Infrared Protector: $75.00. The slim, white bottle with twist-off cap is sleek enough to pop into your handbag or pocket--no excuses! This everyday, 100% mineral sunblock features a powerful SPF protection against UVA/UVB and infrared rays and provides strong anti-oxidant protection. 100% mineral filters, white tea extract and Vitamin E also give skin bennies.  The  active ingredient is Titanium Dioxide 8.1% that will really help prevent sunburn. This is great news--especially for skin that's sensitive and prone to sunburn. The formula is light and not sticky or greasy and it absorbs quickly, so you can apply it over your moisturizer (whether it's My Blend under your makeup...and move forward with your day.

Avon's skincare products are always well priced and innovative. One we have just discovered isANEW Rejuvenate Dial-A-Glow Anti-aging Moisturizer SPF 15 $32.00 1.7 fl. oz. A dual chambered tube holds a self-tanner and the great,  ANEW  moisturizing, anti-aging cream that helps repair, reinforce, strengthen and actually stimulate the regeneration of new skin cells.  Apply this one on clean, dry skin and after just one day you'll start to see a better looking complexion with a slight glow that evens out your skin tone & refines the look of pores. With regular use you'll see additional benefits as you would with other Avon ANEW products.  We think this product offers just about the best of everything: SPF protection, a great  glow, a moisturizer, and anti-aging bennies!  But it gets even better:  there's a clever dial numbered 1-4 on the tube,  so you can dial up the exact amount of "glow" you want.  This has to be one of the most versatile products we've seen. The totally portable product does so much, so well, for so little!  Well done, Avon.

Did you know that a huge percentage of exposure to the sun's damaging rays simply comes from walking around outside doing chores, going to your car, shopping, etc.?  A great daily sunblock can protect you without too much fuss.  The Active UV Defense Sunscreen Cream SPF 15 $29.00 3.4 fl. oz by SkinCeuticals is water and sweat-resistant, has the first sun filter in a sunscreen formula approved by the FDA in 18 years!: Mexoryl SX Ecamsule). This ingredient is water-soluble and inherently photostable. Coupled with Avobenzone (the only organic UVA filter in the FDA-approved group of sunscreen materials), and Octocrylene (a photostable UVB filter),  the product will help prevent sunburn and offer more sun protection, retaining it's SPF properties even after 40 minutes of activity in the water or with perspiring.  That's a great thing when you're active and don't have the ability to re-apply sunscreen as often as you should. TIP: apply this product 15 minutes before sun exposure. The white, flip-top tube dispenses a rich, white cream that looks like it might be heavy, but disperses quickly into skin, feels light, and won't overwhelm with chemical scents (it's unscented). Use this top quality, luxe sunscreen on bare skin, under makeup, on your neck and chest--anywhere you know the sun will hit.

Dermalogica's Solar Defense Wipes with SPF 15 $22.00 15/wipes are packaged in a re-sealable, sunny orange, soft-sided pack that means you can take them anywhere, without a heavy, messy bottle.  Each of the washcloth-sized wipes is infused with a generous helping of water-resistant, UV sunscreen SPF 15 with good-for-your-skin vitamins & plant extracts to fight against free radicals (e.g.. green tea and grape seed extract). There's enough to do all of the necessary body parts with one wipe, so it's not wasteful.  The sunscreen applies light and easy, and has a nice, herbal scent.  It's pleasant and easy to use, so the entire family may finally agree to get with the sun care program and use these wipes often.  Active ingredients include Octinoxate (.5%) and Oxybenzone (4%). All of the Dermalogica sun care products include a UV smart booster technology -- a capsule that bursts upon when it comes in contact with UV rays, and releasing an antioxidant complex with Vitamin C and E to protect against free radicals. We also like the easy and clean, higher-SPF-rated Dermalogica Waterblock Solar Spray SPF 30 $38.00 4.1 fl. oz. that also helps even the most reluctant wear the right amount of sunblock. It's packaged in a pristine, white plastic pump bottle with bright orange pump top. The water resistant formula is good for up to 80 minutes which means you don't have to apply it so often. When we began to perspire, the product didn't melt off. You'll be protected against UVA/UVB rays, while antioxidants protect against free radicals and grapefruit oil and organic silicones condition the skin and prevent moisture loss. There is no alcohol,  artificial fragrance or color in the product. It may be a bit pricey, but the effectiveness, easy of use, and pleasant feel and smell and family-friendly benefits make this a great choice for your entire family. Another winner is the Solar Defense Boosters SPF 30 $43.00 1.7 fl. oz. This sun block is for the face. It contains all of the skin-loving benefits of the other sunblocks but also can be mixed with a moisturizer or foundation by mixing equal parts, as well as a stand-alone sunblock. This is a definite must-have!  TIP: Take your half-empty foundation bottle and fill it with Solar Defense Booster SPF 30 for a sun-protecting foundation that really flatters your skin tone, as you like it!

Thibiant's high end face and body products bring their celebrated day-spa formulas to you at home. Their UV Sunsitive Body Protective Sunscreen SPF 12 $22.00 5 fl.oz offer full-spectrum SPF 12 sun screen in an anti-aging formula that makes your body feel pampered. If you want to get a bit of sun exposure but keep your skin moderately protected and moisturized as the same tie, this completely non-greasy product is perfect. Good for all skin types, you'll like the fact that you an wear this under your clothes without staining or scenting them. I like the cool, cream colored flip top tube that stands gracefully on it's tapered top. My mantra this season is splurge on the products that you love so that you will use them regularly A cheap sunblock that feels or smells unpleasant or that stains your clothes will sit on your shelf or unused in your beach bag, This is a sun block that will get used. TIP for more sun protection, the sunscreen also comes in an SPF 25, too.

Light, nearly unscented, perfectly pleasant to use, effective UVA/UVB sun protection is yours with Protect UVA/UVB SPF 30 Facial Moisturizer $75.00 1.7 fl. oz. from Canyon Ranch.  I expected products bearing the famous spa's name to be good, but this one is really good.  Active Ingredients non-whitening 6.0% zinc oxide and 5.27% Titanium Dioxide do battle with the sun's damaging rays.  There's a wealth of good-for-your-skin ingredients including antioxidant green tea and Vitamin E, and mulberry extract (to brighten). Cereplex, Antiox-3, and 3$ ProNad are high-tech ingredients that help repair, strengthen, smooth, and protect skin.  I've never had the chance to visit The Canyon Ranch, but if the experience is as great as the face and body products, I really want to go there!  Meanwhile, we can all take advantage of Canyon Ranch products and treat ourselves to great skin care.

Spa-style sun protection is yours with Body Glow Protection SPF 30  $46.00 4.2 fl. oz by Elemis. The rich, soft cream that protects with SPF 30 also provide anti-aging skincare bennies. Plant Extracts such as ginko biloba, orange extract, and jojoba, plus vitamin-rich milk proteins and camellia extracts smooth, soften, and make skin feel pampered. The gold tube with shiny silver cover makes the presentation luxe. The scent reminds me of rich clay and flowers, soft and pleasant. We loved it for the SPF protection, but our skin felt as soft as if we'd used a rich moisturizer. For all these reasons, it's a great choice that will make you want to apply it!

SKINCARE & MAKEUP WITH SPF

Get the best of everything Hydramax: sun protection SPF `5, the benefits of Hydramax Active and a tinted foundation in  HYDRAMAX + ACTIVE TEINTE Active Moisture Tinted Lotion SPF 15 $55.00 1.4 fl. oz.  Read the Advice Sisters Blog Post about Hydramax + Active Teinte. A few columns ago we introduced you to Mat Lumière Long Lasting Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup SPF 15 $52.00 by Chanel. This amazing, oil-free formula gives your skin a matte, but natural (semi-matte) finish. We're suggesting it again for Summer, not just because the coverage is so versatile (matte and opaque or blended to a more luminous and natural look), but also because it has SPF 15. This luxurious, liquid foundation won't show breakthrough shine and it won't clog your pores. I have tested this even in the hottest, most humid conditions and the color stays true and long lasting and in 11 shades from light Ivoire and Clair, to Walnut--and worth it! These days, when I travel, I prefer to take along a solid foundation (less chance of breakage and no problem taking it on the plane) and I demand one that gives me the same, luxurious, long-lasting, flawless application as a liquid!   Luckily, Chanel's Teint Innocence Naturally Luminous Compact Makeup SPF 10 $55.00. The cream to powder foundation slides on easily and completely,  leaving skin looking flawless and protected with SPF 10.  I'm not usually a fan of cream to powder foundations as they are often too heavy, too greasy, or too dry, but Chanel got this one just right. Light-reflecting pigments help diffuse fine lines, imperfections and wrinkles, while hydrating ingredients help moisturize and keep skin looking natural (coverage is adjustable with the included, sponge applicator) and your skin won't look dry or cake-y as it might with some solid foundations. One of ten shades including two deep tones ("Soft Honey" and "Walnut") will suit most everyone. There's also that intrinsic little thrill one gets when they slip the compact out of it's velvety travel bag and flip open the top of the shiny, black, mirrored compact with the iconic, Chanel, crossed "Cs" logo. When the product inside is also exceptional, that's a beauty experience that's hard to beat.

Looking for a multi-tasking product that will pamper and protect your skin while it beautifies? Estée Lauder DayWear Plus Multi Protection Anti-Oxidant Moisturizer SPF15 Sheer Tint Release Formula $38.00 is your new love! Appropriate for all skin types, this amazing, no-color, smells deliciously like fresh cucumbers. The light lotion transforms before your eyes into a sheer tint that evens and illuminates your skin tone, effortlessly.  Even better, a blend of antioxidants help prevent lines and wrinkles. I love the silky feel (not greasy, just soft and luxe) and the light-reflectors that diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles. But while my skin looked better and smoother, it was also being protected from UVA/UVB rays on a daily basis , with SPF 15. What more can you ask from a tinted moisturizer that to be lightweight, pleasant to use, with a nice smell, and it makes skin look better while it pampers, protects and improves skin?  These are all great reasons to make this your must-have every day. Interestingly, this product was one some of our guys really liked, too (who would have thought???) .

Years ago,  we reviewed Shu Uemura UV cream SPF 31 Foundation and Shu Uemura UV Power Foundation SPF26 for Normal and Oily Skin, but a lot has changed since then.  New and wonderful right now is Shu Uemura's Powder Foundation Natural Glow Finish SPF 22 $32.50.  This simply wonderful powder foundation was developed with anti-sebum and sweat-proof ingredients derived from the deep sea. It comes in eight colors (buy the companion, refillable, black, mirrored empty Compact $12.50 with included sponge applicator--adhesive strip holds it fast to the bottom of the compact).  Some powder foundations can look dry and/or settle into fine lines and wrinkles, but this (buildable) foundation simply glides over imperfections, leaving skin glowing with long-lasting color that won't turn when the temperature heats up.  Our skin looked and felt natural and glowing. Just as great was the knowledge that our skin was being protected with SPF 20. You may have to fork over a bit more for the foundation and compact, but it's well worth the money.

The Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas SPF 15 $35.00 by Philosophy has both great packaging and a unique product inside. Crushed mineral powder foundation is housed in a shaker jar (with a mirror on the top and a twist-off bottom) attached to a soft, round, sponge applicator that lets you apply this multi-tasking foundation/concealer/sunblock without touching the product. The powder is buildable, with sheer to medium coverage, and it is fragrance free and hypoallergenic. You'll get a natural, matte finish, and the protection of SPF 15.  But what makes this so great is not just that it is a good foundation--you can also use it as a spot concealer and as a finishing powder, too.  The clean and easy packaging and the fact that it's not a liquid, will make it perfect for travel or toting to the beach. We tried "Beige" which will suit most medium skin tones as the product is fairly sheer, but the Supernatural is available in seven shades of neutral, warm and bronze to suit just about everyone.

For years, Lisa Hoffman, traveled frequently with her husband, Dustin Hoffman, when he was on location making movies. Lisa couldn't find a good way to pack her beauty products, so she developed a system of portable skincare and named it Lisa Hoffman Skincare. She found an ampoule system with air-tight, single-use containers that are sized, named and numbered for single use day and night use. The products stay fresh and since they're , so the product is lab-fresh when you use it. The products--five for day and five for night--come in one packette, and they're named and numbered. I loved the Lisa Hoffman Day Cream SPF 15 $75.00 1 fl. oz. The super rich, luxe moisturizing cream comes in a super-slim while column with shiny silver accents and a silver pump top. This product is included in the Lisa Hoffman 24 Hour Skincare Packette *the bath & body versions are reviewed in this column.  This product is formulated for normal to dry skin. It feels amazingly soothing, but it absorbs quickly, and leaves nothing but softness behind. We like the fact that is has SPF 15, but it also has a wealth of anti-aging ingredients that are so clearly spelled out with such amusing names, we are including them all: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Salicylic Acid, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Salicylic Acid, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract. To be sure, the cost is on the high end, but if you love a product that does more than one thing to help your skin and protects with SPF as well, you'll be motivated to use it. That, is priceless! You will look forward to treating yourself every day and your skin will reap the benefits.

Pur~lisse was created by Jennifer Yen when she couldn't find the type of skincare she wanted to help her with her own skincare issues. The actress and model formulated her own products for delicate skin, based on Chinese beauty secrets. Pur~lisse doesn't contain any synthetic fragrances, dyes, animal products, known allergens, petrochemicals, and parabens, and features five key ingredients that help keep skin young and healthy-looking: Lupine peptides (leaves skin oxygenated and revitalized), Blue Lotus Flower (stimulates circulation/soothes and calms skin), White Tea (defends skin against stress), Soy Proteins (anti-irritant/aids moisture retention) and Sea Silk (firms/reduces appearance of wrinkles, protects skin). Since it's so important to keep skin protected from the sun's damaging rays as well, we were very excited about Pur~ lisse Protect SPF 30 $55.00 1.7 fl. oz. To be sure, this is a high-end protectant, but this amazingly lightweight, totally non-greasy, absolutely unscented sun block with good SPF 30 is a product so good, you will be motivated to wear it--and keeping your skin protected from the suns' damaging rays and also helpig to protect it from premature aging caused by daily sun exposure ---well, that's priceless. This moisturizing cream has Lotus Lupine Peptide Complex and Hydra-Shield Complex (UVA/UVB Protection) to provide good full-spectrum sun protection and guard against sun damage. But while you're getting a goodly amount of sun shield, your skin will also be getting benefits, thanks to Vitamin E and Soy Proteins. My skin didn't burn, and it felt hydrated and soft....and as someone who hates sun blocks I can tell you that this is one I actually want to use!  For those who simply won't use sunblock, there's another solution:  Pur-Lisse Essential Daily Moisturizer $50.00 1.7 oz. This light and gentle moisturizer is not only good for normal, dry and sensitive skin types but it also has a whopping SPF 30, enough to provide some real protection from the sun on a normal day. To get a great multi-tasking product with good UVA/UVB protection in one travel-friendly tube is reason enough to love it, but the product is also easily absorbed, and with minimal scent.  Pur~lisse products are simply impressive--worth the cost.

I first fell in love with Korres products when I discovered them at a luxury hotel in Tokyo, of all places.  One product I really like is the Ginger & Vitamins Foundation SPF 10 $28.00.  This lightweight but mighty foundation is packed with Vitamins C and E, plus ginger extract, in a water-based formula that tones and moisturizes, while it protects skin from the sun's damaging rays. The foundation comes in six shades from light to dark, and is fairly sheer (you can layer on more if you wish) so it looks natural, but covers flaws (and it won't clog your pores, either).  With roots in the oldest homeopathic pharmacy in Athens, Greece, Korres doesn't use synthetic ingredients, but instead uses plant extracts and it's color collection has nature-inspired shades made from organically-grown, botanical ingredients that are good for your skin, and make your skin look good, too. Another plus? The foundation  comes in a portable-friendly tube so it's a great choice for your travel tote, too.

If you love the scent of roses, you'll find it easy to love Vitamin E SPF 15 Moisture Lotion 2.5 fl. oz by The Body Shop. This rose-scented facial cream is not just a sun block with SPF 15, it's a great moisturizer with Vitamin E  and wheat germ oil for extra conditioning. Good for all skin types, it'll protect you against UVA/UVB rays as it does good things for your skin.  Wear it under The Body Shops'   Flawless Skin Protecting Foundation SPF 25 $22.50.  There are six shades of cream-to-powder, long-lasting, sun-protecting foundation in shiny, silver, mirrored compacts that look sleek and elegant. The product applies with a sponge, and gives you medium to full coverage that blends easily so that your skin looks smooth and flawless, and happily protected with a mineral defense shield. I tried this one in the lightest shade: 01 which will work on medium-light to medium complexions (if you're super-pale, this one will warm you up just a tiny bit).  I was out in direct sun for some time wearing this foundation.  While it isn't a substitute for a traditional sun block, my face didn't burn, either. That's pretty great!

We are great fans of products that multi-task and are travel-friendly.  One such product that is tailor-made for the season, is the Susan Posnick ColorFlow $64.00.  It's pricey, but it does a lot of good things for your skin and your beauty routine. For starters, it's a loose powder mineral foundation with a good SPF 26 (micronized zinc and titanium dioxide).  It's housed in an all-in-one brush/container (refillable!) and comes in 13 shades plus a bronzer and a shimmer powder. The coverage is natural and matte, but you can adjust the size of the bristles on the brush by simply pushing the clear, plasti sleeve/cover up or down to pick up and diffuse more or less color. You can also unscrew the bottom of the container and dip in a concealer brush to cover blemishes. The gentle, minerals powder has Vitamins A and E help skin to heal, and it's hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and antibacterial. It's also water and sweat-resistant, so it'll stay on your face even if the mercury is rising and it is humid. The hardest decision you will have is what color to choose. There are barely-there pales, medium tones, and 4 very deep shades. You can even use this one on your body!  We also like the Susan Posnick ColorME $32.00 that adds a bit of natural color back to your cheeks.  It's also made of loose, natural mineral powder, but the company isn't claiming the same SPF (so use the ColorFlow first, or add a sunblock). There are six colors named for actresses, and what we love (beside the natural blush tones) is the all in one container with attached sponge puff (and even a mirror on top) that makes it easy, neat and clean to artfully apply loose mineral makeup at home or on-the-go. The color colors range from peachy pink to mulberry and deep rose. We tried the lightest, "Lilly," a soft rose that looks like your own faint blush (inspired by Natalie Portman).

Tinted moisturizers with SPF are a great alternative to wearing sunblock or foundations with SPF, especially if you want to enhance your complexion with just a bare cover.  But not all tinted moisturizers are created equal, one that I've fallen in love with is Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 $30.00 by Smashbox. The moisturizer is amazingly easy to apply, but it's totally oil free and feels immediately dry on your skin, without drying out your skin! It stays true to color, gives you a moistly matte look, and protects with SPF 15, but while it looks natural, it does cover some imperfections and makes skin look better than bare. For all these reasons, it's a great product to use daily. But the tiny tube of tinted moisturizer with flip-top cap does more than just protect and make skin look good. it actually has unique citrus honey ingredients for long-lasting hydration and oil absorption, Vitamins C and E (for protection against free radicals) and anti-aging peptides (to improve skin's elasticity). Also nice to know is that this product is paraben-, and fragrance -free. It comes in five colors from light (Luminous) to dark, and since it's sheer and so blendable, one of these five will look absolutely natural with your skin tone. For me, this tinted moisturizer is a must-have all year long.

Stila SPF 30 Oil Free Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer $36.00 offers medium coverage in an oil-free formula that easily evens out your skin tone, reduces the look of flaws, and protects with a very impressive SPF 30. If you are the type of person who refuses to use sun protection but you love high quality, multi-tasking products, this new Stila SPF 30 Tinted Moisturizer will make your day, your week, your Summer! The product is blendable and lightweight, with white willow bark to add a bit of a glow, Silk amino acids help to moisturize and smooth skin, while pomegranate extract (a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant). soothes it...even if you've been in the sun a bit too long. Eight shades of fair, light, medium and several darker tones make it easy to find a perfect match. This new SPF 30 version is twice the protection of Stila's original, but it's a fast, fabulous way to look great and protect your skin from the sun, made even better now.

Thibiant Beverly Hills Day Spa offers eight unique lines of luxurious spa and skin products. No wonder creator Aida Thibiant has earned the title: "face saver to the stars." You can purchase the spa's high end products and create your own skin-saving, spa-type experiences. There are lots of products, so we are just touching on a few in this column. One I like is the Thibiant Hydrating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 $45.00 for daily wear, and for those times when you just don't want to wear a sunblock or a foundation with SPF. The lightweight, oil-free, sheer, tinted moisturizer comes in three colors: light beige, tan and deep tan but the colors are so sheer and blendable I found I could even use the tan, when I'd usually just select the "light." The product subdues imperfections and makes skin look just a bit more glowing and smooth, but it protects with SPF 15.  Tinted moisturizers come in all prices, but you don't need a lot of this one so it goes a long way. You'll feel pampered, protected, and the jewel-green bottles with fancy, light and dark green caps make a statement of elegance on your dressing table.

Face Stockholm Tinted Mineral Moisturizer SPF 20 $42.00 comes in a really nice, white tube with silver-y pump cap, so you can really take this anywhere and keep your fingers, clean. There's nothing better than a multi-tasking product that gives you color, sunscreen and moisturizer all in one. This one is rich and blendable, and gives you medium coverage with light-diffusing benefits. You'll get enough color to cover, but your own natural skin will still be the star. We loved the full spectrum SPF 20 protection that gives you beauty bennies and skin-saving bennies in one.  And while the product is soothing and rich, it is oil and fragrance free, so you can wear it in the Summer and not worry that your face will become an oil slick. I also like the fact that this product has a " Multi Mineral Complex" including Copper, Gold and Sodium as well as a collection of rich antioxidants, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng and Vitamins A, C and E to shield, hydrate and nourish. If this isn't enough to convince you to buy it, consider that it's good even if your skin is sensitive. This Summer, your skin can truly be happy.

SKINCARE FOR THE FACE (WITHOUT SPF):

A new line that's really good and also affordable is Liiv Botanics from Avon (Wellness). For example, the Liiv botanicals Rejuvenating Facial Cleanser $7.50 2.5 fl. oz. comes in a pleasing, frosted, plastic flip top tube with soft, delicate, grey graphics of leaves. Inside is a lovely, clear, cucumber scented gel facial cleanser that features super-oxygenated water and powerful botanicals.  The product is gentle on the skin, but it cleanses and invigorates and detoxifies. For those who feel it's important, you'll be happy to know that this is also free of preservatives, dye-free and suitable for sensitive skin. The product is supposedly scent free, but we were baffled by this as it has a truly delightful, light, fresh fragrance of cucumbers.  I guess the scent is just from the natural ingredients.  In any case, a cleanser's main purpose is to clean. Liiv Botanicals Rejuvenating Facial Cleanser make our skin feel totally cleansed, refreshed, and with a softness we could really feel. I also really loved Liiv Botanicals Vital Day Cream with SPF 20 $15.00 1.7 fl. oz.  The fresh smelling, super-light cream feels like a whipped mouse in the jar. The product is supposed to be fragrance free (but there's a delightful, fresh scent that probably comes from the natural ingredients) and it's also, dye and preservative free. The cream also has Avon's  exclusive "Plant Essence Technology", featuring  complex plant extracts, such as portulaca, to help your skin receive oxygen, and protect it's collagen and elasticity. Natural green tea polyphenols soothe the skin, fennel extract helps to increase collagen, and crape myrtle acts to increase cellular metabolism. The press literature says "1 day of use, skin is noticeably fresher and smoother. In just 3 days, skin reveals a healthier clarity and improved texture and tone."  I did think my skin looked better, but it is hard to see a huge improvement in just a few days. With regular use, this product really could make skin look and feel improved. And, of course, the thing I really like is that while you're improving your skin, you're protecting it too, with SPF 20  (those ingredients include: Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 5.0%, Oxybenzone 4.0% and Avobenzone 2.0).  Although the product doesn't have preservatives, it will be good for long while.  However, you'll probably use it up in a matter of months because your skin will look and feel better, and you'll also know you're protecting it properly and on a daily basis.

There are a number of excellent products in the Chanel "Hydramax" line.  Here is a quick rundown of some of our favorites:

Hydramax Active Sérum $75.00 1 fl. oz by Chanel  is a light as air, light aqua-colored serum with a very light, fresh scent, that sinks into skin so quickly, it's almost magic. It has a complex of moisture-boosting components that immediately turns dry and itchy skin into smooth, soft, hydrated skin....especially good after those beach days when your skin feels flaky and dry. Hydramax products contain two important, active ingredients:  extracts of French lavender and samphire, to help reinforce the skin's barrier and keep moisture in. Our reviewers loved the way the serum did it's job and didn't make it's presence continuously known with too much fragrance, and too much "grease." It's particularly great for combo skin. And there's also  Hydramax Precision Hydramax Moisture Boost Cream $65.00 1.7 oz, a rich cream that also helps to stave off skin cells' loss of water. The prices are reasonable for high-end products, and believe us, hydration never felt (or looked) so good!  ....and for a serious skincare splurge,  Sublimage Sérum Essential Regenerating Concentrate $375.00 1 fl. oz  is the new addition to the Chanel Sublimage line. Chanel's own description is technical, but when you're purchasing a pricey cream, you want to know everything you can about it.  "This lightweight, silky serum maximizes the all-around age-fighting benefits of the original — combating wrinkles, loss of firmness, dehydration, lack of radiance, and uneven pigmentation — through an exclusive Polyfractioning technique. Planifolia PFA, the customized precious oil extracted from the powerful botanical fruit at the heart of SUBLIMAGE, is now at twice the concentration of the cream. In addition, 100% of the water contained in the serum is distilled Planifolia Concentrated Water for unprecedented results," Says Chanel. To be sure, the cream is crammed with good-for-your-skin benefits that will make you feel like a star  (Chanel makeup artist, Angela Levin, uses Sublimage Serum, before applying foundation on the likes of stars like Nicole Kidman) to make their already amazing skin, look even smoother. You may also find that you use less foundation because you won't need to cover up so much.  I had just a small sample, so I can't tell you how great my skin would look using this product regularly, over time, but my skin did look and feel great.  And,  the experience of applying a high-end product should be lovely, and it is--the serum has a light, slightly spicy, vanilla-y scent (it's not intrusive) and the packaging of the full-sized product is classy, weighty, precious-looking.  An added bonus?  You'll be using just a tiny bit of the product as it goes a long way, so your "splurge" will be a long-time, "gilty" pleasure!

If you live in England and are a Harrods shopper, you probably already know about M Lab from Milabar Laboratories. M Lab, is a truly luxe line of anti-aging skincare products with high amounts of clinically active ingredients. Since the line is in the higher range for cost (e.g the Anti-Aging Treatment Cream is $260.00 12.4 oz; the Eye Cream is $170.00 .5 fl), I highly recommend trying the line with the M Lab Travel Collection $130.00. I loved the collection and reviewed it as the Advice Sisters Product of the week a few months ago. Read the entire blog review.

Do you have deeply clogged pores?  Do you want the benefits of a Vitamin A product without the peeling?  Do you want some of the effects of Retin-A without the harshness or a prescription drug? Would you love to have a deep cleansing facial while you sleep?  If the answer is "YES" to any or all of these, Help Me $45.00 1.05 fl. oz by Philosophy will help you reach those skincare goals.  This little tube of night-only treatment is a retinol product for fine lines, discoloration and large pores. It has a patented "Microsponge" system with Retinol, that does the work of the "big gun" skin creams without the amount of irritation some people experience with Retin-A. You won't turn back the hands of time and the more gentle formula won't give you the same results, but you won't have the peeling, dryness and irritation, either.  You will see smaller pores and reduced fine lines, over time. If you aren't a candidate for the stronger stuff, have skin conditions like rosacea. and/or you just don't need so much treatment, this is a perfect product.  TIP: you can use this just on the T-zone where large pores and rough skin tend to be most noticeable, if you don't need or want an all-over treatment.

I personally love Biotherm's skin and bodycare products. They are available online, they're effective, pleasant to use, and they're the highest quality with lots of cutting-edge ingredients. Two new products for the face launched in June, from their Flash Recharge line:  a Flash Recharge  Concentrate $49.00  1.1 oz  and a Flash Recharge Mask $22.00 2.53 fl. oz. Both of these products multi-task benefits for your skin and help reduce the signs of stress on your skin.  The Flash Recharge Concentrate is really excellent and has a light, herbal (green tea-ish) scent. If you wish, use it solo, or mix it with your favorite day or night moisturizer (use one with SPF to get even more benefits) to pump up skin loving bennies even more. Two ingredients are key to this product: Pure ginseng to help pump up the efficiency of other ingredients and to increase energy for your skin, and Pure Thermal Plankton, a compound found in all Biotherm products, to help your skin protect itself, while helping your skin to look and feel more youthful and revitalized.  If your skin is dull, stressed, and not it's best, this product can really make a difference in the way it looks.  I saw an immediate different and experienced immediately softer skin, but over time, the product really could make a huge difference.  There's also a new, Flash Recharge Mask that very pleasantly and effectively, moisturizes, energizes, and gives your skin a revitalizing boost.  White Willow Extract and aspartic acid help protect your skin from further fatigue and help shield your skin from environmental saboteurs, while fruit acids slough away dead, complexion-dulling skin cells, and biolipids and botanical oils help strengthen, moisturize and hydrate that glowing, new skin.  The mask is lightly, herbally scented, and it's a clear gel (although it looks orange in the tube) so you won't scare anyone if you answer the door wearing it.  Even better, it mostly absorbs and you don't have to wash (or scrape) off lots of goo at the end of the treatment.  Simply apply it, wait five minutes, and massage in any remaining product---genius! I think these are a great idea for anyone who is stressed out, and even if you're fortunate enough to be tranquil, all the time.

The spa-style, Thibiant Silk Sense Glide on Cleanser $30.00 6.7 fl. oz feels like a treat, in it's jewel-green plastic bottle with light and dark green pump cap. The lightweight gel smells refreshing and clean and it's just a joy to use. It effectively and thoroughly whisks away that days dirt grime sweat makeup and sunblocks, but doesn't dry out your skin.  The product is so soft and silky when you apply it, and it leaves your skin feeling that way as well when it's washed away! This ultra-luxe cleanser is a pampering treat, but when the sun's heat has really scorched your skin, it might also be one of your must-haves,  to soothe it back to "good" again.

Good for all skin types but especially sensitive skin prone to redness, the new Intral Collection by Darphin is a gentle, luxurious product line offering soothing comfort to irritated skin.  We tried a sample of the INTRAL Soothing Cream $90/00 1.7 fl. oz.  This cream provides skin the moisture it craves, but gently.  Key ingredients include a "Calm Complex" :  Chamomile reduces skin sensitivity, Hawthorn Extract helps protect capillaries, Panthenol rebuilds and repairs the skin barrier, Peony Extract acts as an anti-irritant and anti-oxidant, and Polysaccharides reduce irritation. Other Key Ingredients: Bisabolol, Orchid Extract, and Vitamin E. We also tried the new,  Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum $110 1 fl. oz.  This light pink serum is very lightweight, but it soothes and softens the skin with a powerful, fast-acting concentrate that reduces the appearance of redness. They're not for drugstore budgets, but after a windburn, sun burn, or for any other time your skin feels tight and irritated, or if you're just tired of products that irritate your skin,  they are heavenly!

If your skin is looking a bit dull, it's time to pep it up with  powerful peel such as the REN Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask $55.00. This one is good for all skin types (not for those with skin too sensitive for glycolic acid). Reviewers liked this golden-colored gel mask that has a high-tech bio active fruit acid complex that makes this a powerful and effective skin peel, It has not only glycolic acid, but also lactic acid, citric acid, and papain (from papayas) to exfoliate, simulate cell renewal, and unblock pores. OMEGA 3/6/7 essential fatty acids (from sea buckthorn berry and blackcurrant seed oil) help to reduce skin inflammation and help with healing and repair. What this all natural mask does not have is Petrochemicals, Sulfates, Parabens, Synthetic Fragrance, Synthetics Colors, TEA, DEA, Glycols, Silicones, & PEGS.  I have sensitive skin so I didn't use it for a full 10 minutes, but even after a few moment the tingling began, and when I removed the mask my skin already looked refreshed. I  have always been impressed with REN products and think they are worth that little extra. If you have blemishes and blackheads, and your skin can manage a mask like this one, use it once a week and you may soon find that even fine lines and wrinkles are fading away, as the look and tone of your skin, is enhanced. Guys will like this one too, because it multi-tasks and shows immediate results, Make sure he gets a treatment during your next spa night!

Tammy Fender is an aesthetician, well known among Hollywood celebrities to her local Palm Beach clients, who appreciate the results of her treatments and custom-blended products based on holistic medicine. Her Tammy Fender Quintessential Serum  Formula No. QS-9 $175.00 1 oz. is exciting--a highly concentrated, preservative-free, deep-penetrating, ultra moisturizing serum in an amber glass bottle with stopper. The serum looks like any other, but this one is really exceptional. it replenishes, restores, and weatherproofs the skin.  Call it: "food for the cells" combining essential fatty and gamma linolenic oils, multivitamins, and the anti-aging properties of Rose, Chamomile and Frankincense to repair and rejuvenate. This serum instantly makes skin feel smooth and the look of even dry, blotchy skin seems improved.  Serums are highly concentrated, and a little goes a long way (a good thing since they are often a bit pricey).  I personally dislike products scents with essential oils of rose and  frankincense (the scent does dissipate quickly on your skin). But what smells good is so subjective, and I know that so many people really adore these classic scents so the smell will be a big "plus." Seeing is believing, however, and I saw instant improvement with it. The product line is interesting and laudable, and we hope to review more Tammy Fender products in future What Works columns.

I couldn’t help but love Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar 2 oz.  (for dry, sensitive skin) and it’s tag line: “You can’t change the weather but you can change your moisturizer.”  In fact, you really do need to reconsider the same old-same old standby you generally use in cooler months and lighten up a bit. This lightweight, fresh smelling moisturizer is lighter than a cream, but more dense than a lotion. It is 99% oil-free, with .01% calming lavender oil. It can be used morning and night, so you don’t have to lug two jars with you when you travel, and it’s a great product if you’ve had too much skin, wind, chlorine, or your skin is just normally sensitive and dry. I don’t know whether or not it’s the perfect moisturizer—it depends upon your skin, but there are other “Hope in a Jar” varieties, including Hope in a Jar for all skin types, and Hope in Bottle for congested skin. Of course, Philosophy has other skincare products too, but Hope in a Jar could make your Summer skin, super.

When I like the smell of a product, I'm much more likely to use it, and one that smells delightfully like my herb garden is the Nourishing Face Lotion 95% Certified Organic $42.50 1 fl. oz  by Origins. Origins Organics is the first full line of skin, body and hair care products to be certified by the USDA National Organic Program. The products are created with ingredients grown without the use of toxic or persistent chemical pesticides or herbicides.  So the product is "green," and that's good...but what does it do for your face?  That's easy to report:  For starters, it is food for all skin types. It moisturizes, softens your skin, and protects against additional moisture loss and free radical damage.  The light, quickly absorbing lotion uses big (organic) "guns"  to soothe and soften in dry, rough, irritated skin: organic shea butter (extracted from naturally harvested Karite Nuts) blended with organic cocoa butter, plus organic glycerin from vegetable oil and organic sunflower oil (also to soothe and hydrate) plus organic coconut oil. The lovely scent comes from organic clove, lavender, patchouli, and red thyme essential oils. Honestly, I'd pick it as a "fave," just for the scent, but it is so pampering and effective, we pick it also because it is really good.

The new, Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief $32.00 1.7 oz or $43.00 2.5 oz by Clinique is perfect for travel (airplanes and air conditioning really dry out skin) and it's like a huge drink of water for your skin that lasts up to 12 hours (taking into account changes in temperature and humidity). It’s a new version of Clinique’s original Moisture Surge, that so many people already know and love. But this new moisturizer, arriving just in time for the heat of the Summer, not only understands not only what your skin needs, but the conditions under which it is operating at every moment. The peachy gel-like cream absorbs quickly leaving no sticky or greasy feel, but it leaves skin feeling soft and smooth, while it works to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. There are lots of interesting ingredients in this Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief, including Trehalose and Sorbitol (sugar-derived to penetrate deep into the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin). to help your skin attract moisture from the environment). Hydrolyzed Extensin (naturally found in carrots) helps your skin to adjust to changes in humidity so that moisture levels in your skin are optimized. There are lots of ingredients to help you skin attract and retain moisture, including: Hyaluronic acid fragments; a new botanical blend of betula alba extract and lady’s thistle Fruit Extract; Hydroxyethyl Urea; Glycerin; and an activated (+/-) Water made with Aloe Barbadensis leaf water (the infused aloe also provides soothing and calming bennies).  Also packed into this powerful jar of cream are antioxidants, and skin conditioners.  This 100% fragrance free and allergy tested product is a perfect companion for Summer,  when your skin will be facing a variety of environments.  TIP: you can even use this as a five minute facial mask…just spread it liberally over your skin, then blot off excess or gently massage it into your skin for added moisture.

HELPFUL FOR HAIR:

Redken has so many professional products we love, but if your hair is dense, dry, coarse, or sensitized, you need something special. Redken comes to the rescue with real help via Real Control, a line of products that moisturize and repair “high maintenance” hair. Formulated with a “Care Adjust Complex,” the products have catatonic conditioners to deeply nourish and condition, protein and ceramide to add strength and protection, and shea butter to smooth and control. As someone whose hair is a bit coarse, curly, porous and also dry, I just love this new line of products. The Real Control Shampoo $11.95 10.1 oz and Real Control Conditioner $13.95 8.5 oz cleanse and moisturize beautifully, leaving hair soft and easy to style, but not a bit heavy or greasy. The Real Control Intense Renewal $14.95 8.5 oz is a once-a-week (more or less) deep conditioner that you leave on your hair for 5-15. It’s worth the wait, because when you wash it out your hair will really look and feel “reborn.” There’s also Crema Care (a daily leave-in conditioner) , Thermal Resist (to protect and strengthen hair) and a Chemistry System Real Control Shot, for salon-only use. Dry, parched, frizzy hair transforms almost like magic, and you don’t need a magician's wand or a load of cash to get it in shape. Whether your hair has one of these issues, or all of them, the products will make a huge difference…they’re well worth the investment!

Do blondes have more fun? Maybe, if they're using Redken Blonde Glam Dream Whip $15.95 5.4 oz. This whipped mousse styling product in a golden bottle with black pump cap gives thickness and shine to blondes with fine hair. The product also protects blondes from the sun (blondes can turn green or brassy) and helps to strengthen thin or fragile hair.  It's created with lightweight polymers, sunflower seed extract with UV filters, polypheonol oil (anti-oxidant shield), protein amino acids (strengthens hair) and grapefruit extract. It smells as great as it works. Simply apply to towel-dried, blonde hair, Leave in and style any way you want. Lucky blondes!

Hair can flop fast in Summer's heat and humidity, but the Root Amplifier $16.00 4 oz by Privé gives hair the boost it needs to beat the heat. The lightweight spray add volume and control to thin, fine hair that would otherwise sit flat and defy styling. Quillaja (extracted from a soap-bark tree that grows in Chile) protects against environmental stresses and rosemary softens and volumizes. Reviewers reported good results that lasted and loved the light, naturally herbal scent. Shine Serum $18.00 2 oz. is one of the nicest hair shine products we've tried, featuring jojoba for moisture, and safflower for soothing bennies Sun-parched hair will appreciate. Just a few drops on we or dry hair will give back the glow, and it's not a grease magnet, so you can combine it with other styling products for added benefits and even more shine. A nice benefit is additional control of frizz and fly-aways...great for beach days and any day.  Styling Gel $18.00 8.5 oz is a clear gel in a tube that you can tote anywhere, to give your style medium to firm hold.  It's perfect for "bed head" styles and for sculpting, spiking and slicking back hair in Summer --just add to damp or dry hair and use your fingertips as a styling tool (or blow dry at home).  Comfrey soothes and softens, and lemongrass acts as a toner to help promote healthy, shiny hair.  It's a luxurious styler that guys will like, too.  When all else fails and your style won't stay put, a hair spray is a must have.  We all really loved the  Privé Herbal Blend #41 Firm Hold Hair Spray $25.00 10 oz.  Spray it and your hair knows you mean business.  The spray isn't wimpy, it holds hard and fast while providing UV protection (thanks to calendula), shine (thanks to pistachio nut oil) and even offering protection from hot tool styling.  We tried this in humid conditions and it kept hair right where we sprayed it...and that's exactly what a great hairspray should do! *DO GOOD AND LOOK GOOD:   for every 10 oz. can of Firm Hold Hair Spray purchased through September 2008, Prive will donate one dollar to Breast Cancer Research.  Note the special can with pink ribbon right on the front!

Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Shampoo and Conditioner $2.99/ 12 oz. are inexpensive but effective care for long hair. We loved the red packaging and the pearly, slightly fruity scent that's actually a mix of jasmine petals, berry, red orchid, cherry wood, violet, and plum. The shampoos and conditioners help protect and manage split ends and breaks, so your hair stay strong, and can grow long. You'll also get great lather and your hair will be soft, healthy, and have real shine.  Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship proves that you don't have to fork over a bundle to have hair that "looks like a million!"

If you hair tends to frizz, the chances are that you've already heard about the fabulous (and affordable) Frizz-Ease products by John Frieda. Big hair isn't a great look, but dealing with frizz can full frustrating.  Weather-Proofing Daily Shampoo $5.99 10 fl. oz and Weather-Proofing Daily Conditioner $5.99 10 fl. oz give you a running head start. These feature an exclusive "shielding technology" that uses a new silicone and mineral oil to resist humidity and keep moisture in (and frizz, out), plus a UV filter helps shield hair from the sun's damaging rays. There's also a Sealant Creme $5.99 4 fl. oz in a pump bottle, that provides a third barrier against humidity and frizz.  Reviewers reported good results. Hair felt soft and shiny. Another product that helps fight frizz does so while you sleep!  It's the John Frieda Collection Frizz-Ease Crème Serum Overnight Repair Formula $9.99 1.69 fl. oz.  Simply pump out a bit of this serum and apply to your dry hair prior to bedtime. Chamomile extract and "damage-mending technology" (can't tell you exactly what's in it, but it absorbed quickly, didn't feel greasy or stain the pillows). When you wash it out in the morning, you will find that your hair looks smoother, softer and able to withstand the humidity. You use overnight creams to soothe your face, why not your hair? You can use it a couple of times a week, or every night if your hair is deeply damaged. It's a great product at a great price!

Curls are “in,” but it’s hard to keep them looking shiny, bouncy and not frizzy. Curly Cocktails from NaturallyCurly.com  feature yummy scented styling products (in sets)  for girls with curls of different types (you can visit the site to find out what type of curls you have). The “Adult” Cocktails (there are some for kiddies, too) come with cute “recipe” cards telling you just what (and how much) product to uses for your hair type. Curly Cocktails  range from $50.00-$80.00. You can mix and match the five different cocktails to suit your personal needs. We tried the Curlaccino (for Hair Type 4B--the most curly). The “Recipe” for this hair type is: Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper, Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner, and my favorite, Curl Junkie Coffee Coco Curl Crème (smells like coconut and leaves even mildly curly hair soft and shiny), and Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue. Although this is a lot of products, the recipe gives you just the right amount to use for maximum results, and curly hair does need special TLC to look really great. Pick just one or two if you wish, too.

If you are fortunate enough to be a patron of the Warren-Tricomi Salon, you know that you'll be walking out with hair that looks healthy, shiny, and totally under control. Luckily, Warren-Tricomi has their own line of haircare and styling products that let you work some salon magic on your hair, at home. For Summer, we particularly like the Warren-Tricomi Organic Hair Shield 4 fl. oz  from their "Protect" line.  This leave-in conditioner applies easily from a cool-looking, white column with all-in-one-pump top. It's good for all hair types, but especially wavy or unmanageable hair. Spray it on lightly before you go out in the sun (it washes out with your next shampoo) and watch even dry, frizzy hair smooth out and feel soft. This is a true multi-tasker that protects hair from the sun's damaging rays, protects your hair color from fading, helps keep hair from drying out, and creates a very lightweight, invisible shield around the hair shaft that instantly protects from environmental damage. Apply it before you hit the beach or the pool, and you'll feel secure that your hair is really protected from chlorine, salt, and other nasty things. Your hair will look and feel great,  even if you're not going to a pro stylist that day/evening.

For curls, or for straight styles, SET $20.00 8 fl. oz. by Hair Play can help you get the look you want. Developed by hair stylist Fritz Clay for his HairPlay Salon in San Francisco, this weightless detangling and moisturizing foam is a multi-tasking miracle. It comes in a simple, clear, pump top plastic bottle, but the product inside is as workhorse to make any type of style, work. The foam/lotion helps you blow-dry curly hair (or any type of hair) straight and shiny, or add shine and bounce to air dried or diffused curls. It de-frizzes, adds shine and control, and body --all in one product. Oh, and did we mention that it has sunscreens, too? Use it as a leave-in conditioner and enjoy your fun in the sun and look great. Get either light hold or medium hold. There is so much you can do with this one product that we are amazed. We watched Clay blow dry a curly woman’s hair stick straight and scrunch another woman’s cork-screw mop into a controlled, shiny halo of curls. To put it simply, we really, really like it. Apparently we’re not the only ones: Diddy, for example, who can buy anything he wants at any price, ordered an entire case of SET (not sure if it’s just for him or all of his friends, but he obviously is a fan). There’s also SEAL, to help seal the deal .If you have naturally curly hair, these products help you make peace with your mane, whether you wear it straight or curly.

Hairdo 14" Layered Flip Clip-In Extension $90.00 (human hair $500) from Jessica Simpson and celebrity hair stylist Ken Paves, can boost your confidence and make your hair look good again, without cutting, crimping, sweating, or swearing! These reasonably priced (hair extensions are re-useable) items let you add length and/or volume to your own hair, or if you wish, give it a longer/shorter look. Depending on where you place if on your head, the layered flip falls to or just below your shoulders. I couldn't believe how easy it is to add these without fussing.  You just anchor the all-in-one piece  (read the illustrated guide first) with 7 pressure-sensitive clips around the perimeter. You also get 2 extra clips and  2 "duck-bill" hair clips to aid in attaching the extension). One of my problems in the past with hair extensions is that they tended to be all one color, and only in the most basic shades, so they never matched anyone's real hair color. This "hair" is soft, synthetic modacrylic fiber in 11 color choices from black to dark red, and comprised of up to a dozen, different shades. The faux hair can easily be washed, and it's shiner, smooth and nicer than natural hair, actually. The clips were easy to use, and didn't tangle in my real hair, but I think this length works best with short hair that you want to give a longer look, and it helps to have some shorter layers around your face to tie the look together. You can pin up your hair underneath and make longer hair look shorter, but again, you need enough shorter layers around your face to tie the look together, or tightly curl the sides of your own hair so that it looks shorter than it really is.  If your hair is misbehaving, it's thinning, you want a new look for a special occasion, or you just want to try a style without commitment, these HairDo extensions are fun, easy to use, and do the job, nicely.

I was a bit worried about trying Streekers Instant Liquid HairColor $9.95 by HairMark LLC. The box says: "easy washout" but I've heard stories of other brands of temporary hair color that just refuse to say "sayonara." Gingerly, I opened the cap and applied one, bright red,  streak of color to my hair with a kind-to-fingers, clean, sponge-tipped wanded applicator. The color dried quickly, and didn't fade or flake off. Later, when I shampooed my hair, I held my breath but to my relief, the product washed out. Streekers uses an innovative technology (not shared with The Advice Sisters) but the point is, you can add fun to your hair in an instant, with eight vibrant colors: pink, blue, ultra violet, red, green, yellow, orange, and purple--and then wash it out quickly when "playtime" is over. This is the type of product you buy for the pure fun of it, and express your personality at the beach, parties, or just because. Like a one-night stand, you can love the one you're with, and yet there's no commitment past the next shampoo. Young or old, feel like that "cool kid" again. TIP: if your hair is super light or Bleached blonde you might need a bit more muscle to remove all the color--maybe 2-3 shampoos.

Just when we thought there couldn't be anything new in mini flat irons, we found one! The T-Ion Travel Iron $149.00 by Metropolis Technology  is unique, as it's a 1" flat iron that folds down to 6 1/4" and weighs just 12 ounces.  It is much smaller than the full sized flat irons, but it has slightly larger plates than the super-minis, but it has something we've never seen before--retractable ones!  This travel iron doesn't have heat settings, but it heats up hot and fast. It's high-tech tourmaline plates give hair all the benefits of tourmaline ceramic and far-infrared technology that helps make hair smooth, soft, shiny, and less susceptible to frizz without using as much heat. When you pull up the plates, an indicator light shows you that the unit is automatically turned on, and when you push the plates back down into the handles, it shuts off. Since this one is a travel iron, it has dual voltage (110/220) and a nice, padded, thermal pouch with velcro closure that allows you to immediately pack your iron without fear of scorching anything. What I love most about this effective flat iron is that it's the perfect size to smooth your entire head of hair within minutes, without any struggle or effort. It's big enough to handle even a large, thick head of long hair, but small enough to put into a pocketbook. Now that's what we call an iron that is meant to be your #1 travelling companion. It's a great product--we think you'll definitely want one.

Peppermint is one of those scents that you can't help but love. It just makes you feel tingly, energized and happy. The new, peppermint-infused Mentha Hair Collection Shampoo $12.00 12.0 fl. oz.  and Conditioner $12.00 12.0 fl. oz from C.O. Bigelow gives you a big hit of minty aromatherapy, along with a very tingly, cooling, nourishing, shine-boosting experience for your hair. The cool-looking, clear, green, Mentha Shampoo lathers really well, and the 1% peppermint oil and extract makes hair feel super-clean.  The Mentha Conditioner moisturizes, while it keeps the tingly, happy mint scent, going a bit longer. It also helps detangle and add shine to hair.

Even if you have a full head of hair, you run the risk of sunburn when you go out in the sun without a hat.  And scalp burn not only leaves your skin irritated and flaky, a sunburn on your scalp can damage the hair follicles and result in compromised hair health, too. An easy way to safeguard your scalp, is with the limited edition Scalp Guard Sun Block SPF 20 $13.50 3.4 fl. oz by Nioxin.  The slim, orange pump bottle sprays a clear, non-sticky, slightly minty-smelling liquid mist that gives your head full spectrum sun protection. It's like an umbrella or a hat for your head and hair!  While there doesn't seem to be color protectors in this product (so you'll need to use something else to keep your color from fading), we think a bottle of this product is a small price to pay for making sure you hair and scalp stay healthy and protected.

Hair spray isn't a really sexy product, but Being Sexy Hairspray  $14.99 10.6 oz. by RUSK comes in a slim, pink, metallic container that looks girly and fun to use. The product inside is all serious and powerful, however. It's good for any type of hair, and that's a plus.  This extra-firm-hold hair spray adds volume, and it literally locks in and freezes any hair style, even when hair is "blowin' in the wind," yet hair will still be touchable. You can mist this on damp hair and then style it with a blow-dryer or other tools, or you can go traditional.  Style first, then mist over your finished style to keep it where you want it all day and night. You don't need a lot of product for a lot of hold, and the product will work with hair of any type regardless of texture, condition or ethnicity.  This product from Rusk, rocked, and our reviewers, raved!

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Hydrate Conditioner can help keep your color from fading or turning brassy, but it also makes every type of hair feel softer, and look shiner.  I like the fun, tall, flat, lavender flip-top bottles. But what I like most of all is the nicely lathering shampoo that kept my hair so clean but yet so soft, I delayed washing it a few days longer.  And, you can even use it as a body wash!  The Purelology Hydrate Shampoo $25.00 10.1 fl. oz. helps keeps color more vibrant for a longer period of time, thanks to a special, anti-fade complex. It's an exclusive blend of antioxidants and UVA/UVB full spectrum sunscreens.  Soy, Oat, Wheat and organic  botanicals such as rose, sandalwood and green tea plus an aromatherapy blend of anise, bergamot, ylang ylang, and a hit of patchouli make cleansing hair,  spa-like. The Pureology Hydrate Conditioner 425.00 8.5 fl. oz is also wonderful.  It has a nice, minty scent, thanks to three different essential peppermint oils, but it also has jojoba esters and shea butter of hydrate hair without making it heavy or greasy, plus the anti-fade complex.  A little goes a long way, and it helps to soften, de-frizz, detangle and add shine, too. For a special, conditioning treatment, try a jar of HydraCure Moisture Hair Masque $45.00 5.02 oz.   This intense hair therapy treatment has the same, anti-fade complex as the other products, and also an anti-age complex to smooth and strengthen hair. The thick cream is pleasantly fragranced with allergen-free rose, plumeria, sandalwood, amber and vanilla. A plastic comb with wide teeth is included to distribute the product throughout your hair. Wait 2-5 minutes and enjoy the light scent, as shea, jojoba, mango and avocado butters, plus certified organic botanicals (including three types of antioxidant rich mushrooms (Mucor Miehei, Shiitake, and Mannentake)  penetrate deeply to condition, repair, add lots of softness, moisture and shine. moisturize.  If your hair is dry or damaged from coloring, or from the sun, or just because....these products can make a huge difference. Great hair care doesn't always come cheap, but a little of these products go a long way. And, if you care about the look and health of your hair and you've invested time and money on good color, it makes sense to invest a few dollars to maintain the color and keep your hair (and you) looking great. These 100% vegan products are not tested on animals--another reason to buy and love them!

For a shine product that also treats dry, split ends, you can't go wrong with Advance Techniques  Daily Results Dry Ends Serum $4.99 1.7 fl. oz by Avon. The clear liquid in a pump bottle with new leaf green pump spray just looks like it'll be fresh and clean (and it is).  Pump one or two times into hand and distribute through damp hair before styling, or on dry hair to calm frizzies and help keep a shine, glowing. This easy, simple-to-use product also has  UV-filters for added sun protection, so take it to the beach and use it daily. Our reviewers reported that her dry, split ends were calmer, less noticeable, and less dry. We also liked this multi-tasker for it's ability to boost shine.  For all these reasons, and the reasonable price, it's a must-have for Summer.  White Sands, new to our reviews this column, has a number of salon-style hair products. One we like for summer, especially because it has UV protection that will instantly shield hair color from fading, while it offers a very effective, firm hold for your style, is White Sands Designer Gel  8.5 oz, $15.00 - $17.00. The alcohol-free gel holds hard for volumizing, spiking, and even hot roller, but you can brush it out without literally tearing your hair out with the product! The clear, unscented gel comes in a fun, purple plastic bottle with "space age" push-button flip top.  White the product is meant for volumizing and keeping serious styles in check, it also helps to minimize saboteurs like humidity.  I found that if I rubbed a bit on my hands and then passed them lightly over my hot-ironed hair, it stayed straighter with less frizz, lots longer. This is an inexpensive multi-tasker you'll definitely want for your beach bag, travel tote, and for home..

The Banana Republic is best known for it's clothing lines, but the company also has a number of note-able fragrances. FANTASTIC FRAGRANCES BEAT THE HEAT:

White and linen go together like sun and Summertime. That's why we have always liked Pure White Linen Eau de Parfum Spray $45.00 3.4 fl. oz. by Estee Lauder.  It is a modern classic scent that's perfect in the warmer months. There are more than 22 different notes in this fragrance, making it feel sophisticated, special, rare. Open the powder blue box trimmed with white of the  Pure White Linen Body Lotion $36.00 6.7 fl.oz. and it makes you anticipate the scent before you ever apply the scent.  Body Lotion is so important to keep skin soft and hydrated in the Summer, and this one is lightweight, easy absorbed, silky, and body-pampering body.  The scent seems at first a fruity floral, but at the drydown, it gets just a wee bit spicy. The top notes are: grapefruit, Italian mandarin, iced rose tea, raspberry, pear, Granny Smith apples, lily, white freesia, white ginger, cardamom , the heart is floral, including red tulips, rose absolute, wild honeysuckle, gardenia, tuberose, jasmine, soft iris, osmanthus , and the drydown gives the sophistication of white Cedarwood, patchouli, white heliotrope and green scent with just a hint of spice. This is one of those scents that everyone likes. It is light on the skin but long-lasting. It'll help you feel pretty, pampered and cool, all summer long.

Created by Firmenich’s Annie Buzantian and Alberto Morillas, the fragrance called: "Pleasures" has been one of the top sellers for Estée Lauder since it's debut in 1995.  The sheer, green and floral blend has romantic top notes of white lily and violet leaves, a heart of black lilac, karo-karounde (a floral herbal woody green scented flower), baie rose, and (the inspiration of the scent),  white peony. The base notes are simple and warm: sandalwood and patchouli.  We absolutely adore Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau de Parfum Spray (Atomiseur naturel) $45.001.7 fl. oz for Summer. The scent starts out feeling just like a fresh floral but as it dries down it lets some of the woody/herbal notes shine through, making it the type of scent that makes you feel good--uplifted--happy, every time you smell it.  The day/evening scent can certainly be worn year-round, but it really blends with an individual's skin to make the most of Summer's heat. The lovely, rounded column of glass with matte pewter top feels cool and light in your hand. It really is one of life's pleasures!

Also from Estee Lauder is a sensational new scent: Bronze Goddess Eau Fraîche Skinscent $49.50 3.4 fl. oz. The Advice Sisters blogged (and raved) about this limited edition scent earlier in the Spring.  We think it's a perfect fragrance to "let the sun shine in" every single day. Read the Blog Post for the entire lowdown on Bronze Goddess and Bronze Goddess scented Body Oil Spray $29.50 3.4 fl. oz.

The Perfect Scent, a Year Behind the Scenes of the Perfume Industry in Paris and New York by New York Times Perfume Critic Chandler Burr chronicles two unique perfume launches: one in France for Hermes (Un Jardin sur le Nil) from Hermes in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena), the other, in the U.S.A.  (Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker). Sarah Jessica Parker is not just an actress, she had real input into the concept of Lovely. The result is lovely, literally and figuratively. Lovely Eau de Parfum $49.50 1.7 fl. oz, $65.00 3.4 fl. oz. by Coty Prestige is a modern floral with top notes of Mandarin, Bergamot, Rosewood, a hint of Lavender and something surprising - crisp Apple Martini.. The middle notes are feminine, classic floral -- Patchouli, Paper Whites and creamy Orchid. Bottom notes tame the sweetness with exotic and sultry Cedar, White Amber, and exotic Musk and Woods. And who wouldn't love the feminine, pink, curved, polished glass bottle with personal touches--a grosgrain ribbon and the initials "SJP" on the gold tone spray activator, peeking demurely through a large, round, faceted clear cap?  Even the carton is feminine blush pink, with contrasting gold lining and the signature "SJP" on the seal. The second Sarah Jessica fragrance for Coty Prestige,  is Covet Eau de Parfum Spray 468.00 3.4 fl. oz, $52.00 1.7 fl. oz. It has a different feel, but it's really  pleasing to wear. A chunky cube of green and gold metallic cardboard has a large, gold plaque embossed with the Covet and Sarah Jessica Parker logo. The box is lined in lime green, opening to reveal a "jewel"-like bottle--clear, chunky, squat and rounded glass.  The spray cap is the star: a rosette of eight "smoky topaz" glass petals surrounding the small, gold spray diffuser like a halo or wreath. You can remove this piece, run a piece of velvet or a lovely ribbon through the center, and wear it as art jewelry! The presentation is truly stunning...covet-able for any fragrance collector. The fragrance was created with Sarah Jessica Parker, fragrance consultant Ann Gottlieb and Firmenich's Frank Volkl, It's a modern, clean, fresh smelling fougère that beautifully mixes feminine notes with some found in unisex and men's fragrances.  The top notes are wet greens, geranium leaves, Sicilian lemon, lavender and chocolate. The middle notes are the girl ones: floral honeysuckle, magnolia, muguet and something I have never heard of before:  michelia yunnanensis NP (it looks like a large sage plant with berries). Base notes add balance: musk, vetiver, bois de cashmere, teakwood, and amber. These bring the fragrance to a more sensual level, while still leaving a fresh feeling. The scent stays with you, mellowing into your own skin, beautifully. Once you've seen Covet you will want to own it, but once you smell it, you truly will covet it!

Eternity by Calvin Klein Fragrances is already a modern classic that has spawned new variations of the scent. The latest is Eternity Summer. Both the tall women's clear glass bottle and the squat, rounded men's version have the recognizable, silver, all in one silver spray atomizer top. The women's in the shape of a "T" and the men's a solid silver rectangle. this limited edition scent also features a delicate design of what looks to be beach grass on the front of the bottle, which looks lovely and calming, with the faint, light blue tinted juice peeking through. Eternity for Men Summer limited edition Eau de Toilette Spray $52.00 3.4 fl. oz is a delightful, unique take our reviewers really loved. It is masculine, but not the typical herb-y, musky-y or woods-y scent. this one stats out green with refreshing notes including juicy kumquat, chilled citrus accord, mimosa and blue fresh accord, and gets a bit more intense at the heart, featuring herbaceous complex, living juniper berry, and vintage lavender. The bottom notes are masculine and sensual, but lightened up: guaic wood, spicy cardamom, sheer patchouli and melted amber resin. Taken at face value, it might sound as if you'll be wearing a forest, but the effect is refreshing, light, a bit fruity, but never sweet or heavy. When it mixes lightly with a mans skin it become incredibly sensual--a whiff of manly scent surrounds him, but then it subsides a bit, making you want to move in, closer. It will meld with each man's body and personality to translate into something special. Eternity for Women Summer limited edition Eau de Toilette $52.00 3.4 fl. oz is also a light, get-up-close-and-enjoy scent that's perfect for warmer weather, since it is neither too sweet, too spicy, or too fruity. The balance is just right to blend with an individual's body chemistry and product a fresh green floral scent. The top notes are wet bamboo leaf, crushed basil (to lend a hint of green spiced) and golden mandarin, to give an uplifting vibe. The feminine heart is created with romantic notes such as lily of the valley and hydroponic midnight-blooming jasmine, and neroli. The drydown has orris (one of my personal favorite notes) along with spicy ginger root and airy musks. The intended effect is breezy, green, fresh. As with the men's scent, this one allows the wearer to personalize how the scent will really smell, mixing beautifully and in a sensual but not overbearing way with your body chemistry. We wish these weren't limited edition as they are wonderful...but hopefully the next, limited edition of Eternity will be wonderful, too!

Tommy Girl Summer Cologne 2008 for Women by Tommy Hilfiger $48.00 comes in a limited edition set of Cologne and Body Lotion. I am adding a review as a last-minute item, because it's such a  welcome addition to your warm weather scent collection. What I like about this latest version of Tommy fragrance is that it’s warm-weather-worthy, light, fresh and just a bit like fruity, like a picnic at the beach. I think of Tommy Hilfiger’s audience as being fairly young,  but this scent is so light and fresh, it would appeal to everyone. It’s casual enough to wear without having the scent overwhelm, but it works with more than just shorts or a sundress, and it's also a way to introduce a younger girl to a special event, scent.   It features "shimmering, sun-warmed notes, offset by a sparkling twist of Nantucket cranberry."  If that's too fanciful a description, I'll just add the other notes include: pineapple, lemon, lime, orange blossom, coconut milk, magnolia, and warm sand accord. The men's limited edition cologne features Key West orange blossom, coconut, fresh sea air, and wild bergamot, grapefruit, mint leaves, violet, lavender, and jasmine plus a base of coconut milk and driftwood. They sound dreamy, don't they?

Also from Calvin Klein is a limited edition take on another modern CK classic--Calvin Klein CK One Summer Eau De Toilette spray $42.00 3.4 oz.. This fresh, bright, fruity scent makes you want to smile--I really like this scent--a lot. It is categorized as a "watery, woody" scent, but it's not wimpy--there is sassy tartness as well. It starts with top notes of waterfall accord, watermelon, and fluid hedione accord that smells fresh and green. The heart is watermint, cucumber and cardamom and you can really smell that refreshing cucumber. The heart is musk, blond woods, and moss, making this at once fresh and clean, but subduing the freshness at the base, creating a sensual surprise. This is a unisex sent that I think will appeal to young perfume connoisseurs most, but it's a fun vacation scent to share with the special someone, too. The bottle is the classic "flat flask" type that lets the Mediterranean turquoise blue juice shine through. Bright, bold yellow graphic letters stand out beautifully. there's also a metallic blue spray diffuser, but no cover over it, giving the entire presentation a casual, carefree feel. The scent is also packaged in a turquoise plastic presentation box, the actual spray diffuser at it's side until you unscrew the holding cap and put the atomizer in (or not, as you please). This is the perfect scent to leave for your guests in a summer home bedroom, too (but they might not want to leave unless they take CK One Summer with them)!

Some months ago we first reviewed Can Can by Paris Hilton $55.00 3.4 oz, $45.00 1.7 oz. for Parlux Fragrances, Inc. The fragrance is a flirty, girly fragrance is worthy of note again for Summer wear. The packaging is eye catching, the outside cardboard wrapper featuring the blonde heiress herself in a surprisingly modest Moulin Rouge style red dress against a background a lighted hearts and red roses. The white box underneath is a pristine s textured white with metallic maroon print and a wispy feather seemingly floating to the bottom of the box. One would guess that the scent is also demure from one angle, a saucy show-stopper from the other. Indeed, keep unwrapping and out of the box pops a voluptuous, clear glass bottle that tapers to a slim, top with the silver spray diffuser topped with a clear angular column of plastic colored hot pink at the tip. And the clear juice is a surprise too: fruity, sugary, almost the scent of cotton-candy--but not sickeningly sweet, soft and ladylike, but also a bit wild, . The top notes are clementine flower, juicy cassis and nectarine, mixed into a heart of wild orchid, orange blossom, and at the bottom, soft musk, sensual amber, and sexy woods. This is the type of fragrance that will smell just a bit different on each wearer depending upon body chemistry. The "cotton candy" mixes with your own chemistry to become fruity for some, creamy for others. We see this as a nice first serious scent for a younger woman, for PH fans, and a lighthearted warm weather scent for all who, like Paris Hilton, "just want to have fun."

I have always adored Cynthia Rowley's imaginative runway shows, and I loved her makeup collection for Avon last Fall.  But now Ms. Rowley and Avon have teamed up (with  perfumers Richard Herpin and Frank Voelkl of Firmenich) to create unique mother and daughter scents: Petal and Flower. I have certainly seen my share of "His" & "Hers" scents, but never one for female bonding. And Avon has done a great job teaming up with high fashion designers to create scents that hold their own with department stores brands.  Flower Eau de Parfum $30.00 50 ml is the women's scent. It's housed in a truly adorable, vintage-y, white glass bottle pressed with dots on the bottom half, and a slim, black ribbon tie around the neck.  It's really unique.  The fragrance itself features feminine freesia, cashmere woods, and warmer and more sensual vanilla, skin musk, velvet woods and sandalwood. But is also has Casablanca lily, a sweet floral that reminds me of paper whites. The effect is floral, but the musk and vanilla tone it down and make it sophisticated.  Petal Eau de Toilette $15.00 30 ml (photo)  is a young girl's scent, but it also makes a pleasing, light and feminine daytime scent for women. The bottle has a thin white ribbon around it's neck, and the design is the same, but smaller, and clear (to showcase the hot pink juice) It's simply all girly and fun! The fragrance is a "fresh green floral" that centers around Lily of the Valley--a scent that both Cynthia and her daughter (and I) really love.  These scents just make you want to play "dress up." Layer them together or use them separately.  Flower shows your feminine side, and Petal reminds you why it is magical (and fun) to be a girl!   With Mother's Day coming, the duo is a sentimental gift for mothers and daughters to share.

When I think of Summer parties, I often think about frozen margaritas.  Always flavorful, refreshing, and colorful in a classic, margarita glass, it's a drink that's hard to forget. Just in time for summer,  Demeter Fragrance Library introduces a version of the drink that you can wear: Frozen Margarita $20.00 1.0 oz. It smells like fresh-squeezed limes, with a subtle hit of tequila. I guarantee that people will come in close for a sniff and then simply smile, without knowing quite what the scent is. Like the drink, it's citruss-y, refreshing, and it makes you happy, a party in a bottle, but without the hangover. This is a delightful, fun fragrance!

Vicky Tiel earned a degree from Pratt and FIT in New York, started her career as a film costume designer, and in the 1976's moved to Paris to operate her own fashion biz. She designed several fragrances with amazing, "Lalique" style sculptural bottles. Years later, Ms. Tiel is back with a new collection called "Vicky Tiel Paris" with three new fragrances:  Couture, Sensuel and Destine eau de Parfum 44.99 /each 3.3 fl oz. (sold exclusively at Perfumania). The outer box is elegant, a simple rectangle in pristine white with a delicate, gold trim and a pink, black and gold square logo. I loved the collectible perfume bottles of Tiel's other scents, but the new collection has a sleek, modern, square glass bottle with rectangular, clear plastic cap, that looks like an oversized version of a classic French perfume bottle. I was delighted by the fragrance (I tried Couture). It's a classic, soft floral featuring Italian bergamot, Egyptian cassie, fresh aldehydic accord, otto of rose, violet leaves, iris, vanilla, musk, Haitian vetiver and sandalwood. It's light floriental,  complex, and really pleasing. It's first a floral, then upon drydown, a bit woodsy and spicy. My first impression was: "this smells like an expensive, French perfume"  (without knowing that much about Ms. Tiel or that these fragrances are a nod to her days in Paris). The fragrance is ladylike and elegant, light enough to wear to the office, substantial enough to make it's presence known if you are close enough. The scent just blends with your skin and lets you make it your own, just as a great fragrance, should.

Fabulousity Eau de Parfum $45.00 1.7 oz., $55.00 3.4 oz (Body Souffle $ 30.00 4 oz, Bath Diamonds $30.00 4.0 oz) by Coty Prestige is a fragrance that really is a precious gem, just like the huge, faceted "diamond" bottle (with Baby Phat logo etched on the top) it comes in. The inspiration for the design of the Fabulosity bottle came directly from Kimora Lee Simmon’s passion for diamonds (their power, brilliance, and rarity).  The luxe, diamond shaped bottle is a gem every woman can afford, and if it were real, it would be over 3,000 carats! To add to the glam factor, there's a purple carton, embossed with holographic "diamond" accents. Ms. Simmons is larger than life on her reality television show, and she's a glamorous star, but she's also a powerful,  savvy businesswoman creator of the designer brand Baby Phat,  She knows what makes women feel fabulous. I can see her wearing this scent, which is subtle and sexy, strong and girly, just like she is. My original thought was that anything associated with Baby Phat would be more for the "hip hop" crowd, but I was totally wrong.  So what's the fragrance really like?   It's a sophisticated, elegant, unique,  woman and man-pleasing scent that gets attention, as Kimora herself might enjoy, but not in a self-conscious way. Not surprisingly, men seem to really love it. My own walked in the door and seconds later said: "wow!  What are you wearing? It smells great!" This, from a man who barely notices the hundreds of scents I personally try and wear  each year!  I'd categorize this fragrance as a "fruity-floriental" with a subtle, "gourmand" vibe. The actual notes are a top of of juicy plum, orange blossom, tiger lily and mysterious forbidden fruit. A heart of Chinese osmanthus, coconut milk and purple violet sweeten, soften, and seduce the senses. Finally a prismatic, intriguing dry down has a gourmand feel, with Tasmanian honey,  vanilla absolute, and a spicy blend of patchouli and amber. It really is a fabulous scent that is unique, attractive, and appealing.

When I think of “woodsy” scents, I generally associate them with men’s fragrances, but the soft, smooth, warm smell of woods mixed with other sensual notes works particularly well with a woman’s unique chemistry. Estee Lauder has taken the lead, with a sensational new fragrance.  Sensuous Parfum $90.00 .25 oz, Eau de Parfum $69.50 3.4 oz, $49.50 1.7 oz., $39.50 1 oz  is a fragrance that’s designed to be for all woman, all the time. I personally loved this scent, and I blogged about it on the AdviceSisters Blog when the fragrance debuted in June. Read the entire blog review.

A few seasons ago, Bobbi Brown launched a fragrance called Beach that was so popular, it sold out in a nano-second, sending women who wanted the scent, into a virtual frenzy.  I predict that Bobbi Brown's newest, Almost Bare Eau de Parfum $60.00 1.5 fl. oz is going to get the same reaction from discerning women who love fragrance. This Summery blend of fruit and floral features Italian Bergamot blended with violet leaves, a distinct note of soft muguet (a scent that reminds me of the very first fragrance I ever fell in love with) and jasmine petals, soft cedar, and warm amber. The effect is fresh, light and cheerful, but with a drydown that hints of a woman, blending with her skin, enticing you to come in closer.  It's subtle (almost bare) but that's deceptive. When you come close, it packs a gratifying punch in the sex appeal department. The clear, square glass bottle with shiny silver cap also looks deceptively simple, but like the fragrance, has a depth you appreciate only after you've taken a close look and admire it's rounded corners and clean, black lettering that looks elegant and sophisticated. This one's a winner that will please just about everyone.

BATH & BODY TREATS) WITHOUT SPF):

You aren't planning an excursion to the South of France this summer? At least you can bring a bit of Provence to your bathroom.  We suggest washing with Farmhouse Triple Milled Soaps $5.95 by Sweet Grass Farm. New to our reviews, this company is a New Hampshire based manufacturer of all-natural, hand-cut soaps and herbal home and body products. They'll feel like a Summer escape, and they're a lovely, affordable splurge.  Thick rectangles of gentle, creamy, moisturizing, French-milled soap are infused with olive oil, shea butter, vitamins and moisturizers that soothe all skin types. They're infused with essential oils in three fragrances:  Lavender, Fresh White Lilac, and Lemon Verbena. What I like so much about these bar soaps are the authentic, lovely scents that permeates the air as you wash. My favorite, the lilac scent, captures that fresh fragrance that only occurs when lilac trees are in bloom in the Spring. With this particular soap, you can keep the memory of that lovely time going all year long. Even better, the large cakes of comforting cleanser produce nice lather. TIP: Use these in the kitchen as well as the bath.

We can't seem to get enough of Philosophy's wonderful, subtle, "Amazing Grace" (and sister "Graces") fragrance and body helpers.  *the photo is of Philosophy's Congratulations Gift Set review in our May/June column, but this column we'd like to introduce you to more great products such as Philosophy's Bath & Shampoo, Bath and Shower Gel $22.00 16 fl. oz in their "Falling in Love" scent.  The hair and skin-softening formula cleanses beautifully and luxuriously and leaves just a lingering hint of scent. We love the light-as-a-whisper lavender-tinted pearly gel that smells of lush vanilla, soft florals, and ripe berries. It starts fruity, but mixes with your skin to become a softer, sexier, scent perfect for Summer heat (and the "heat" you create on your own, too).

I have already extolled the virtues of Liiv Botanicals by Avon Wellness in the skincare section of this column, but the line has a good Rejuventating Body Wash $8.50 6.7 fl. oz. too. The clear gel smells like white florals, and comes in a round, plastic tube with delicate leaf graphic and a flip top. It has active plant extracts and hyper-oxygenated water to detoxify. Like the facial cleanser, we were surprised that this affordable product left our skin feeling really clean, and yet with a softness that lasted for hours without even adding a  moisturizer!

I have already made my feelings known about the upscale products from Lisa Hoffman Skincare with individual, travel-friendly packaging ----I love them! (see photo). Although you can purchase Lisa Hoffman bath and body products in full sized bottles, you can also get them in the ever-so-great and pampering, packettes. The Daily Bath Care Packette $25.00 features generously sized, single-serve ampoules of Bath Soak, Body Wash, Body Polisher, Body Cream, and Hand & Foot Butter. All are lightly and luxuriously fragrances. The hand a foot cream is just the thing to treat yourself after a long day (on the road, or not). The products are refreshing, soothing with lovely, light fragrances.  You can't help but feel better after you're cleansed off the day's stresses, or just sweat and grime.  Your skin will feel great.  These are so superior to what you'll find at the gym, your weekend hosts house (unless s/he uses very high end products) or in even most popular hotels, so treat yourself to a packette when you travel, and you'll feel that life is good, no matter where you are.  And for Summer, because your body is exposed to so much more sun, sand, wind and heat, I also love The Spa Shower Packette $25.00 that offers travel-sized ampoules of Lisa Hoffman Cleansing Gel, Body Scrub, Body Oil, Body Lotion and Hand and Foot Cream (you also can buy them in full sized containers for home use, too). The packettes are meant to be used quickly, but if you don't use everything up in a day and night, you can certainly keep an open one useable for a short time more. A zip-lock type plastic pouch totes the products nicely...it might pass muster in your carry on bag if you take the pouch out and put separately in a security bin.  Better yet, just put the entire pouch in your luggage--the zip lock bag and sealed ampoules means you won't find a messy "surprise" at the end of your journey. My favorite is the fresh-smelling Cleansing Gel (full sized version $25.00 4 oz)  that leaves skin soft, refreshed, and total cleansed from suntan oil/lotions, heat and sweat.

We love Elemis for it's spa products, and so the After Sun Soothing Milk $37.00 6.8 fl. oz in a gold plastic bottle with wide, white, flip-top cap, felt like the perfect end to a day in the sun. The oat milk base with sunflower seed oil, calendula and St. John's wort soothes, softens, silkens, pampers, and help regenerate sun-weary skin. The lotion smells powdery and fresh, and the lotion is loose and lightweight. Best of all, it's easily absorbed, but don't let that fool you--it does a great job, keeping your skin from becoming parched and irritated. TIP: proper moisturizing after sun bathing actually helps you tan linger, longer.

Summer means baring more skin, so now, more than ever,  exfoliating your skin is a must-do. You can get exfoliating products in all price points, but if you're on a budget, can you get quality at a budget price?  Luckily, Suave Skin Therapy Daily Exfoliating Body Wash $2.49 12 oz is an easy and very inexpensive way to exfoliate and still feel pampered. This gentle product does work well, and let's your skin keep a healthy glow, while keeping it smooth for better application of self-tanners and sun blocks.  Apricot seed and real coconut extract make this creamy, white body wash smell great and exfoliate well, while effectively moisturizing and softening your skin. The simple, white plastic flip top tube is nice for men and women and goes with every decor. What more could you ask for under $2.50?!

Back acne--it's embarrassing, but lots of adults have it.  Don't let acne of any type keep you from baring it all at the beach!  Clinique has come to the rescue with their new, Acne Solutions Cleansing Bar for Face and Body $25.50 5.2 oz. The semi-translucent, white solid bar looks elegant in a self, draining, ice-blue plastic,  igloo-style case. But the soft-looking bar packs a wallop against blemished with a formula that combines exfoliating and blemish-controlling ingredients with oil-controlling and anti-irritation ingredients. It helps to unclog and minimize pores, calm and soothe irritated skin and reduce the appearance of redness. Even better, using this soap will help prevent the conditions that can lead to breakouts. My first thought was that a product that does all this probably dries out your skin, too, but this soap is extremely gentle, even though it has encapsulated salicylic acid and zinc PCA ( a mineral that helps control the build-up of oil on your skin and helps to reduce shine). The soft, creamy lather will make you feel as though you're using a luxurious spa product, but it will cleanse every part of your body and help to keep acne away.  Of course, since it's Clinique it's non-acnegenic, allergy tested and fragrance free. We didn't use it long enough to see the results you're likely to get with this product, but it's got everything you need to succeed.  If acne anywhere on your skin is a problem, we give think this new soap will be the answer.

I just love the packaging of L'Occitane en Provence products. The old-style apothecary glass jars and graphic labels just make me feel special and motivate me to choose these products over many others, just because they are so fun to use. Huile Souplesse Supple Skin Oil is packaged in a clear bottle with metal matte silver pump top--so much more luxe than moisturizing with "baby" oil. This light golden colored oil has a slight floral fragrance, and while it's dry, your skin will still feel deeply moisturized. It is such a perfect after sun product for dry, flaky, sun-parched skin, but after you start using it this season, you'll be hooked and use it all year. I was surprised to find that although the product has super-moisturizing almond oil, it has the scent of flowers (very light). The minute you apply this oil to your skin you will see and feel the results. I tried this on my hard to moisturize, itchy, dry legs, and the look and feel that had been plaguing me even though I moisturized with creams, just disappeared. it didn't come back all day and the residual moisturization lasted a few days.  If your skin is dry this is a great product to choose for daily use but normal skin will feel pampered too, especially after the pool or beach. TIP: to get the maximum benefit, we suggest you apply this right after bathing when your skin is still a bit moist---you will feel the difference.

Another naturally nice product from a line loved by those who appropriate natural products, is the Naturally Nourishing Milk & Shea Body Wash 12 fl. oz. by Burts Bees. This 98.5% natural product, in a simple, clear round plastic container with flip top and cheerful yellow, red and white graphics (featuring an old-fashioned milk can) has something Cleopatra loved to bathe in---milk!. Modern women who want to treat themselves royally will find this cleanser has milk powder--defatted cow's milk that acts as a natural, soothing skin cleanser and softener. Safflower seed oleosomes boost (and lock in) moisture, with the potential to increase your skin's moisture by 42%  (in just one use--we didn't measure it of course, but our skin did feel nice and soft).  Glycerin and shea butter keep your skin feeling luxuriously moist, too. There is a slight scent that reminds me a bit of high quality suntan lotions, not heavy and not a lot. Lather up with a loofa, or simply use your hands. You wont find any sulfates or parabens in this one either, and it's also pH balanced so it's good for all skin types, too.  This is a nice alternative to products with a lot of chemicals, and your entire family can enjoy it.

Traveling this Summer and wanting to "go green" while you're away?  The Natural Beauty Travel Kit $9.99 by Noahs Naturals give you effective, lovely-smelling products in "try-me" sizes.  The divine-scented Grapefruit Shower Gel and Body Lotion each come in 1 fl. oz bottles, and make skin feel pampered.  I also like the nice sized tin of solid, intensive moisturizing hand salve with essential oils, jojoba and soy wax (.17 oz). The light, herbal scent is a nice touch while you're soothing dry, cracked skin. There's also a nice pick-me-up in a peppermint lip balm. All the products in Noahs Naturals are free from parabens, harsh chemicals and artificial dyes. The packaging has attractive, clean-looking graphics and simple but nice unisex packaging.  Most of all, the full-sized products won't set you back a month's rent to enjoy them.

New to our columns is T'Fivve, an anti-aging skincare line specially formulated for sensitive skin. Named after the expression "Take 5", the products utilize patented technology and anti-aging ingredients to prevent signs of aging and relax your skin. T'Fivve is gentle for sensitive skin, unlike traditional anti-aging products which are loaded with retinols and steroids.  One we particularly liked is the  T'Fivve Moisturizing Body Smoother $48.00 8.0 fl. oz. by Skin Scientifica. The clean, white bottle with large pump top accented with lavender, looks nice on the bathroom shelf. Inside, there's a  lovely moisturizing body lotion with a patented, "Multi Lamellar Emulsion" technology that revitalizes skin through the restoration of the skin’s protective barrier system. Two key ingredients are Vitamin E (providing anti-oxidant protection from environmental stress) and Allantoin (helps calm and soothe distressed skin and nourishes healthy skin). The lightweight, unscented lotion feels soft and calming on the skin, and it is gentle enough to use even if your skin is sunburned and parched. We tried it on dry, itchy skin and it absorbed quickly, without irritation or burning, and it left our skin looking and feeling much smoother and silkier. If you have sensitive or compromised skin, this is a wonderful product and a great product line to try.  We also liked the T'Fivve Anti-Aging Moisturizing Hand Cream $35.00 4oz, with serious anti aging treatment and antioxidant protection, thanks to the line's exclusive K6PC5 age-fighting ingredient and Vitamin E, plus poria cocus root extract (anti-aging); licorice root extract (to brighten); rosemary leaf extract and chamomile flower extract (anti-oxidants), plus soothing and moisturizing bergamot, olive oil, and macadamia nut oil . The super-hydrating cream is not greasy, and doesn't smell.  Use it in the morning and at bedtime, and every time you wash your hands, and they will look softer, smoother, younger! It's a nice little splurge for a part of your body that really can look old before it's time. The facial products are noteworthy as well. Even if your skin doesn't have "issues," you'll find these products will help you reach your skincare goals, beautifully.

Miss Bath, new to our reviews this column, has a wide variety of bath bombs and other goodies to scent your bath and make it fun, and relaxing. Miss Bath Footies $2.99/2, for example, are deliciously scented mini bath bombs just for your feet that are molded into little petit-fours shapes so they look literally good enough to eat.  Who wouldn't love to soak their feet in "Pink Frizzles" or "Tropical Passion?" The Miss Bath products are good for the body and soul, and they contain good for your skin ingredients like Epsom salt, dead sea salt, moisture-rich carrier oils (naturally extracted from seeds and fruits), and lovely fruit and floral fragrances. Drop one into your pedicure water or bathtub and let the cares of the day melt away. You'll be left with soothed, nice smelling feet.  And pamper your body with one of the Miss Bath Ball Fizzlers $6.99. These huge, round bath bombs are so richly scented you can enjoy them just sitting on your dressing table or tossed into your lingerie drawer, but they are meant to pamper, moisturize, scent and soothe your skin. There are no preservatives or harsh chemicals added, so even those with sensitive or dry skin can enjoy soaking in a bath with  Fizzler. My personal favorites are the pink and white "Sweet 'n Tarty" Fizzler, scented with pomegranate seeds and sweet fig scent and the pure white "Diamonds and Pearls" Fizzler, scented with fresh fruits and flowers, but there are a dozen different, unique, and deliciously scented Fizzlers to choose from. Treat yourself-- you'll feel great, and smell even better. These are the ultimate anti-stress treatment.

Nurturing bath and body products with beautiful scents make cleansing and moisturizing skin into a pleasure, instead of a chore.  The new Village Perfumer Body Care Collection by C.O. Bigelow features six exotic and classic scents: We tried three:  Lavender (a classic, mild floral), Rosemary Mint (an invigorating and herbal blend), and Coconut (a creamy, not-too-sweet, toasted version) and there's also: Wild Berry, Lime & Coriander, and Grapefruit. Each of these scents is available in three items: a Body Cleanser $12.00, Body Lotion $14.00 and Hand Wash $12.00. The Body Cleanser gives rich lather and leaves your skin smelling every-so-slightly of your chosen scent. It has hydrating Sodium PCA which acts as a natural humectant and also aloe vera to soothe and hydrate.  The Body Lotion is light and feels great on your skin, again, lightly scented with one of the six fragrances in the line. Olive and borage oils plus aloe vera make this a perfect après sun choice to scent, smooth, and soothe skin. The hand wash is a lovely accent for any guest bathroom or your kitchen, featuring Pro Vitamin B and aloe vera.  Of course it cleans your skin, but the aromatherapy bennies makes it so much more fun!  We're impressed with the entire collection--and it is so affordable!

Surgeons Skin Secret by Jamark Laboratories, Inc. is new to our columns. We loved their 4 Piece Soap Pack $27.75 srp. that is nicely-boxed and beautifully scented (with Honey Almond/Lemon) set of four moisturizing products from their line.  Inside a dark green box with round, white bulls eye is are: an amazing, 8 oz. honey almond-scented cream moisturizer (with 25% beeswax), a 2.5 oz honey almond-scented, solid, beeswax stick, 4-oz lemon-scented one-step manicure treatment (with natural lemon oil, beeswax and shea butter) and a .30 oz lemon-scented lip conditioner stick. The one-step manicure treatment is one of the most pleasant I've ever used. This one smells like lemon ices, and it exfoliates not just dry skin on your hands, but cuticles, too. The packaging attractive in white, orange and black, but the products work well to soothe, hydrate and moisturize dry, irritated skin. The products are all formulated with beeswax, which does not break down in water, so the products stay on your skin longer, and don't slide off so easily with water or sweat. This makes the products a bit "sticky" but also more protected. Reviewers loved the incredible honey and almond scent as well as the lemon.  A pleasing product means you'll use it more often (and so will he). This definitely gets two (nicely moisturized and protected) thumbs up from us.

BRONZERS - "TAN" WITHOUT SUN DAMAGE:

I truly have a love/hate relationship with bronzers. I've learned to appreciate their ability to add warmth and sun-kissed color, but alas, most are too intense to look anywhere near natural on fair or ruddy skin.  To the rescue is the adorably-named Snow Bunny Caribbean in a Compact $25.00 by Too Faced. The shiny, black, round, mirrored compact has the girly, pink, Too Faced logo of a girl in silhouette, so it's already fun to use, but inside are four soft stripes of subtle color: Fawn shimmer/Golden bronze/Delicate pink. Used together with a soft brush, it makes a subtle glow that even a redhead can really love. Just to make sure this powder bronzer wouldn't "go orange" on me later on, I wore it during a workout...and it stayed golden, not gaudy.  There are deeper bronzers that Too Faced makes for those with medium to deeper complexions, but for pale and ruddy-faced folks, Snow Bunny Caribbean in a Compact will be your new companion, all year round.

Dianne Brill's newest is a Fresh Water Pearl Powder Foundation $50.00 gives you the versatility of a powder foundation and a more creamy, liquid formula, all in one easy to tote, compact. Use the enclosed sponge and apply the foundation dry as a face powder/foundation, or use the sponge damp, and get more coverage and a flawless complexion.  The main ingredient of Ms. Brill’s foundation/powder products in this line is a refined fresh water pearl powder created of crushed fresh water pearls. They not only contain minerals, calcium and amino acids, they also reduce redness and add a pearl-like luminescence to the skin.  The coverage is fairly opaque but it feels so light and easy to wear you'll love it for everyday as well as special occasions. You can adjust the amount of product so that your skin still shows through if you wish, and I think this is a real plus.  But for me, the silvery mirrored compact with a string-of-pearls on the top and Ms. Brill's signature, is just another reason to covet it!

Borghese's Powder Milano Bronzer $30.50 looks like a day in the sun,  in a compact. The powder bronzer goes on evenly and leaves a buildable glow that won't turn orange.  Dust it  on a bare face or over tinted moisturizer or foundation  (with the nice, included, retractable brush). Add a bit of color to your cheeks and wherever else you want to add a bit of "glow." The bronzer comes in "Terrecotte," a medium-dark tan that will flatter many skintones. The bronzer is of the highest quality, but one of the things I've always loved about Borghese is the presentation of it's products. The elegant, ribbed black compacts with oval "ruby" clasps are just so lovely. They reminds me of the days when women carried their makeup in jewel-like minaudieres when the went out in the evening.

One of the difficulties I have with drugstore brands of foundation is that it is virtually impossible to figure out what shade works for you. Now that there's TruBlend Liquid Foundation $7.99 by Cover Girl, with fifteen shades to consider, the choice is more challenging. Once you figure out what number you are, you get the opportunity to find a shade that really, really will match your skin tone most closely. TruBlend Liquid Makeup has colorspheres that merge with your skin to give it a more natural and flawless look. I went to the Cover Girl web site where I could see in color what the shades actually are. For me, it was a toss-up between Creamy Natural (#2 420) and natural ivory.  The oil-free formula blends nicely, hypoallergenic and won't clog pores. For those who prefer powder foundation, TruBlend Minerals (approx.) $8.65 is a pressed powder foundation with six shades to choose from instead of the 15 in the liquid formula. It arrives in a simple non-mirrored compact with a small, serviceable blush brush.  The pressed powder blend of pure, micro-fine minerals is lightweight, oil and fragrance free, and suitable for sensitive skin.  The powder is very silky and offers light to medium coverage and a nice, matte finish. The packaging isn't very exciting, but the product is nice.  If you are hoping to try an inexpensive minerals makeup, this one is a good choice.

Affordable bronzing products can be yours, if you choose N.Y.C. New York Color.  The packaging is no frills, but the products work like the more luxe ones.  Portable, affordable and easy to tote is the Blush 'n Bronze Bronzing Powder $4.99 The all-in-one brush and loose powder bronzer comes in "Long Beach Bronze," (a glamorous, sheer, glittery, light golden tan) and "Rockaway Beach Bronze," a shimmery, deep golden bronze. The fine, silky smooth loose bronzing powder is housed in a retractable self-contained brush applicator that makes loose powder application simple and mess-free. The sheer colors catch the light, look natural, and are long lasting.  We also liked the Bronze 'n Glow Highlighter $4.99 in a tube. The sheer, oil-free highlighter can be used on brow bones, to contours cheeks, or all over for a dewy, glowing look. The lighter of the two,  "Hampton Glow," gave us a glowing all-over hint of tan without looking too baked.  "Fire Island Glow" has the same effect on medium to deep skin. For those who love Powder Bronzers, there's also Sweet Cheeks Bronzer $4.99 in a simple, clear compact (no mirror or brush) is a pressed powder bronzer in a gradation of bronze shades, letting you vary the shade of sheer color you apply.  "Brooklyn Babe" gives a medium to deeper "tan" to your complexion. Bronx Beauty" is slightly lighter, but still gives a faux tan you can rely on. You get a believable, bronzed look, without spending lots of bucks!

Treat your body to an all-over "tan" and actually control the intensity of the color? It's not a wish, it's a reality, with Shade To Order $18.50 6.7 fl. oz by True Blue Spa (at Bath and Bodyworks). You can dial up seven different shades of "tan" from sheer moisturizer to a deep, rich bronze all in one simple pump bottle. Self-tanners often smell chemical-y but this one doesn't, and you get the benefit of a pleasant smelling, coconut/orange scent. The oil-free moisturizer is packed with skin loving benefits: glycerin helps skin retain moisture, aloe vera soothes and smoothes skin, and vitamin E moisturizes, conditions and helps protect. Even if you don't want any color, the moisturizer is lovely and effective,  For those who aren't sure just how tan to go, start with one of the lighter shades and increase the intensity as you wish.  For those who already know that deep is for them, dial up the darkest shade, or choose one for your face, another for your legs. The consistency is light and smooth. This is a clever way to get a faux tan and keep your skin in great condition. TIP: Exfoliate your skin thoroughly first, and then simply smooth your way to the tan of your dreams.

BEST BEAUTY HELPERS- MAKEUP KITS

We love face in a case kits, especially in Summer when we want to travel chic, but light. The Collection Essentielle de Chanel Multi-Use Make-Up Palette $85.00 by Chanel, is simply the best of the best. These limited edition Summer color palettes come in two tones: the warm, bronzed, shimmery  (but light to medium) shades of "Lumiere Soleil" that will make you feel like a sun-kissed goddess, and another version with soft pink and neutral tones called "Lumiere Naturelle." We tried the "Lumiere Soleil."  Inside the iconic shiny, black, mirrored Chanel logo compact are a collection of Chanel's best-selling and exclusive colors - four pearly eye shadows: (bronze, nude, pink and copper) , four moist and sexy lip colors: (nude, beige, deep rose and pink) and one blush/bronzer in a sheer, light, amazingly wearable peachy beige. These powders apply flawlessly and feel light.  But amazingly, they stick tenaciously to skin, so they last for hours and hours. The lipsticks are not sheer but they're an almost magical reflection of how color should look on lips:  a colorful, but not over the top combo of tint and moisture. The blush/bronzer is heavenly....very layerable, non-streaking and believable. This palette is a status symbol you'll be proud to carry in your purse.  Even better, three nice mini applicators (blush brush, sponge tip, eye shadow) are included in the black, velvety carry-pouch. It's not a splurge, really...it's a good value that will give you a great look with some of the best products on the market!

Bobbi Brown thinks women should be able to choose the colors they want, and make their own collections of colors that work. The new, Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow and Blush compacts let you pick and choose from an awesome collection of 37 Eye Shadows $20.00 in a silky, matte formula;  24 Shimmer Wash Eye Shadows $20.00. Pop them in and out of one of three different, shiny black Empty Palettes $10.00/each (3 pan, 4 pan and 6 pan). Each of the powder shades is of the highest quality, luxurious and generously sized. The colors are easy to apply and really stay true to color. An unusual and wearable color for day or evening that I particularly liked from the Shimmer Wash selection is "Rock," a soft pewter that looks a bit different on each person, depending upon their complexion, and looks lovely with a highlight of light, peachy-pink "Seashell." Use your fingertips or a brush--they're that silky! There are also  19 Blushes $22.00; and 5 Shimmer Blushes $22.00. The powder feels silky and light, but you can blend the color with little to no effort. We loved the "Pink Sugar" shimmer blush that leaves a trail of shimmer with a sheer rose anyone can wear.  Bobbi's Tip For Eyes:  Use three shades of shadow: light, medium and dark.  Bobbi's Tip for Blush:  Use two colors:  a neutral allover shadow and a pop of brighter blush on the apples of the cheeks.

BEST BEAUTY HELPERS: GIFTS & ACCESSORIES:

A quality product with a lovely scent is a joy, but a quality product with a lovely scent and beautiful packaging is a rare joy. The Soap & Paper Factory, new to our reviews this column, is a company that offers products that are a rare joy.  For starters, they use natural ingredients (choosing organic and local whenever possible) and they produce their products almost entirely on site in a rustic brick studio,  not a huge factory. And these "green" products also are beautifully packaged with unique and beautiful graphics and hand-wrapped boxes.  For those who care about the environment, it's nice to know that Soap & Paper Factory candle votives can be reused for drinking or to hold a small bouquet, while the beautiful boxes they come in (and those that hold paper and bath products) are re-useable for storing odds and ends. There are lots of bath and body products and even some paper goods.  Lovely to look at, delightful to sniff, and wonderful as a gift for your weekend host or as a treat for yourself is the Soap & Paper Factory Pure Beeswax Candle $36.00 (ours was scented with a smoky green tea, but there are five other scents:  rosewood, verbena, orange blossom, fig, and cinnamon clove). The box top features a green-tea-colored background with large pink and rose (cherry?) blossoms and delicate white and green leaves, covering a dark brown base. The soft amber candle is hand poured into a slim, Italian glass votive with a collar of brown satin ribbon tied with an old-fashioned apothecary-type white label with "hand" lettering that reminds me of quaint perfume shops in Paris. The clean-burning beeswax candle lasts up to 60 hours. Also lovely as a personal treat or a gift is the Bath & Basin Boxed Soap $24.00, in a slim version of the candle box. Ours was scented with rosewood, a unisex, uplifting blend of citrus and woods. The luxe, cream-colored soap is free of waxes, petroleum and animal bi-products, made in small batches, hand mixed, poured, and cut into an oblong bar (for the bath) and two smaller squares for your sink. Write your thank-you note (or love letter) on stunning, Scented Note Cards $48.00/24 that come with a vial of scent in your choice,  to make the message, memorable. Ours was orange blossom (a bride's favorite floral), featuring stylized orange blossoms in modern pink and rose, with green and white accents and grey envelopes. You will want to chuck the computer and write a note to someone special, simply to use these!

BEST BEAUTY HELPERS:

Patricia Wexler Fastscription No-Injection Instant Line Filler For Eyes and Lips $17.50 .5 fl. oz has a long name, and is actually a tube of clear, silicon gel-like lotion.  it does what it's name says (and it does it well) -- it visibly fills in fine lines in an instant, so that makeup will sit on top of them instead of sinking in and making you look older than you need be. The product also has white birch (and antioxidant).  A line filler sounds like it might feel heavy on your face, but it's light, and has just a slight scent. While it does help reduce the look of lines, it also claims to significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines with continued use. We didn't test this,  but like all the products in her line, this one has Wexler's MMPI-20 technology" (a proprietary complex of botanical ingredients) that help to reverse signs of damage caused by photo-aging of skin, such as loss of skin’s elasticity. The filler is also fragrance free and suitable for all skin types. While it isn't a permanent cure for crows feet and lip lines, it sure beats expensive, invasive procedures if you want to reduce the looks of fine lines around your eyes and lips. If you want your face,  makeup and lipstick to look more flawless, it's an easy extra step that can make all the difference.

We review lots of blushers in our What Works Beauty Review columns, but there's a kind of glow that only nature brings....and the folks at Vibrator.com have two clever beauty helpers, that don't require any cosmetics to give you a health flush!  Some of these items are so discreet, you can carry them in your handbag and no one will ever realize that they are true, multi-taskers. For example, the Discretion Make-up Compact $37.00 by California Exotics has a matte, silver cover, and could pass for any ordinary makeup compact, but inside, there's a fairly powerful, micro-massager with 3 speeds and a 36” retractable cord--it also has a metallic mirror--so you could check if you have something in your teeth while you're taking care of  your "other" needs. It is so super-quiet, you could use it at work (if the ladies room is empty and you don't have security cameras lurking in the "loo"). You even get two sets of batteries! I couldn't help but giggle at the The Mini Max Vibrating Makeup Brush $10.00 by Pipedream. The small, inexpensive, black blush brush looks like any other, and it has a nice head of (waterproof) bristles. But the handle hides a secret.....three button batteries start the brush vibrating when you twist the bottom of the handle!  So you can dust powder all over your face, or use the lightly vibrating, three speed blush brush to "reduce stress"  and give your face a lift, without makeup!  Clever, useful, fun, inexpensive...it might just be it's your #`1 Summer "must-have!"

Suave 24-Hour Protection Invisible Solid in "Unscented"  srp. $1.79 2.6 oz. is an impressive product that costs just pennies. We tried the invisible solid in an unscented formula that has as it's active ingredient, 20% aluminum chlorohydrate for wetness protection. The simple, swivel-up, light blue plastic compact works for men and women alike. We liked the fact that this Suave solid stick was available in unscented, especially for Summer wear, And more importantly, this solid stick of antiperspirant/deodorant tenaciously clung where we put it, refusing to melt off until we washed it off. There's also a formula for sensitive skin, and six, soft scents-something for everyone at a very modest price. Do everyone around you a favor--buy one and use it!

I suppose Feet Dreams $9.99 16.2 fl. oz by Soap & Glory could foster lots of witty puns with about the name, but once you dry the cooling and hydrating, tea-scented gel that's a true  foot and leg refresher, you won't be smirking, you'll be smiling Soap &  Glory, new to our reviews this column, has a number of products with cute names and retro-graphic labels that certainly make the products much more fun to use, but there's nothing old fashioned about the products. This foot refresher is formulated with an ingredient the company calls: "X-COOL 20," (Glycerin is one ingredient I recognized) but no matter how space-age the formula, what it really does is soothe tired feet and reduce swelling, especially on those hot and humid days when your feet are rebelling against every sandal-ed or stilleto-d step.  The generously sized pump bottle lets you add a generous dollop to your palms, then, using both hands, massage this foot saver from toe to heel and ankle to calf.  You can also dab a bit of Feet Dreams onto your pulse points to give your entire being a break.  We really liked the cooling feeling and the uplifting scent that made us instantly, relax.  Our feet stopped throbbing and we were ready to get moving again.  Keep a bottle on your nightstand to soothe feet after a hard day, and you'll have sweet dreams and sweet feet, too!

From time to time we get a product suggested to us for review that seems a bit, well....bizarre, but if the product solves an embarrassing problem, then we feel you ought to know about it. Subtle Butt $9.95/ 5 pads by The Pond Inc. is an activated carbon fabric pad, (3.25" x 3.25" square_ that adheres to the inside of your underwear with two self-adhesive strips at the right place...you know where that is. It neutralizes gas emissions (no, not the ones from your car....). Maybe you will never need this product, but if like Carrie (in a Sex and the City episode) found out, sometimes you let one "rip" without realizing it. Subtle butt won't neutralize the sound, but it will remove the odor. I flatulence is a problem, these pads, do tone it down a notch.

Secret has a new weapon in the war on wetness that's not longer a "secret": Secret Flawless $4.29 1.6 oz. by Proctor & Gamble . In May, this product replaced the brand's current Secret Platinum collection.  This new product is a deodorant/antiperspirant that utilizes a revolutionary manufacturing process to uniformly distributes the key ingredients for a smoother, lighter, and clearer application (as well as increasing wetness and odor protection). This skin-loving product also has conditioners (E.g. petrolatum and dimethicone) and a "Fragrance Renewal Technology" that signal primary and secondary scent notes to begin working (up to 24 hours) at the first sign of wetness or odor. Secret Flawless is available as an Invisible Solid and also as: "Secret Flawless Touch with Olay®."  It comes in five unique scents – Protecting Powder, Refreshingly Floral, Completely Clean, Satiny Tropical and Totally Fresh. We tried "Completely Clean" which smelled slightly fruity, but pleasant. We liked the swivel-up stick that is ergonomically designed and makes it easy to apply (and yes, the product does control odor and wetness, nicely).  Honestly, what makes it exceptional is the really smooth and lightweight formula that doesn't leave streaks, doesn't feel sticky, and has conditioners that are kind to our skin.

Have you ever done your hair and makeup, slipped on that little black dress, and then realized your white deodorant has left it's mark?  No need to worry, Skid Out $4.95 2/pack by Garment Guard, is a specially-textured sponge that instantly wipes away those embarrassing without lugging out the chemicals, or leaving water spots from a regular sponge. It's safe for most fabrics.  All you have to do it take out one of the round sponges from the plastic pouch, rub it on the fabric, and watch it quickly and easily remove deodorant, toothpaste, and other "real life" stains. What we like about this is that it is an instant problem-solver.  This is a great travel companion, too.

We all know that drinking water is essential for our survival, but it also does great things for our bodies from the outside, too.  The e energy water system (Pro size 12.9 fl. oz $40.00, Personal 3.6 fl. oz $40.00 & Purse .44 fl. oz $49.99) by iTech is a new way to look at how water can benefit our beauty routines. Of course, a spritz of water, especially if it is a bit cool, will refresh your hair, skin and spirits on a hot day at the beach or when you're traveling, or sitting at your desk, but this unique water system (a bottle and filter--you add ordinary water) turns ordinary water into something special to enhance and nourish your hair and skin. It was an Advice Sisters product of the week on the AdviceSisters blog--read the entire review!

Sometimes I am able to review an electronic device that appears costly, but might actually be a bargain if it provides the type of treatment that you can only find in a high end spa or a doctor’s office. Such is the case with the Tända Professional Skincare System Intro kit (bonus treatment head) $295.00 (msrp. $395.00). The small, white wand with a triangular head looks space-age, but it’s an FDA cleared safe, gentle, LED light treatment for acne AND signs of aging. Charge up the wand in it’s handy stand, and choose either the blue light (Tända  Clear) head for anti-acne treatments, or the red light (Tända  Regenerate) head to help reduce the signs of aging. Without going into a huge amount of technical details, the Tända  Clear works with ultra violet (UV) free blue light that doesn’t contain the harmful effects of the sun’s rays, but it can decrease inflammatory acne lesions on your face, by gently and naturally killing the P.acnes bacteria on your face that can cause mild to moderate acne. Scientific studies by the Canadian University Health Network showed that after just three minutes of treatment with Tända Clear, there was a 74% decrease in p.acnes colonies. We tried it on a few large, ingrown zits and waited. We noticed that the almost impossible to dry up bump was nearly flat by the next day, with no other signs of breakout. We also tried the Tända  Regenerate. The red light “modulates the activity of fibroblasts that synthesize and release collagen, helping to generate smoother, younger skin.” We didn’t have twelve weeks to see significant differences, but the literature claims that Tända Regenerate can not only help to create smoother, younger-looking skin with regular use, it can actually help to heal blemishes and limit scarring as well. The unit is compact and fits into a small travel bag, so you can use it anywhere. You only need about 30 seconds per treatment per spot you want to treat, so unless you are trying for a full face treatment, you can do this even when you’ve little time to spare. If you’re an adult who suffers from mild to moderate adult acne and you are also seeking an anti-aging treatment, Tända  will pay for itself in weeks…and that’s worth trying for yourself! TIP: The Tända  Professional Skincare System is available by prescription only, so visit your dermatologist.

There's nothing like having the perfect pair of pink heels, or the perfect little pink dress, or handbag, or suit.  FACE Stockholm has the perfect little Pink mesh Bag $16.00 to carry all your must-haves.  The open mesh is sturdy and yet you can still see what's inside the zippered pouch. The size is large enough to carry a weekend's worth of supplies, but still petite enough to fit in a handbag without crowding it. Now that's, perfect.

When we think of SPF sun protection, we generally assume it comes in a tube, but did you know that there are high-tech fabrics that offer effective, high amounts of protection from the sun's damaging rays as well?  It's not sci-fi, and it's here, today. The  NIKE ACG "All Conditions Gear" collection of high-performance outwear, exclusive to Dicks Sporting Goods stores, has shirts for men and women that will shield your body from the sun's rays up to UPF30! *UPF is essentially the same rating system a SPF, but for fabric. And these are not "utilitarian" clothes, they're fashionable, and in great colors! The Advice Sisters blogged about the wide range of polos, T's and tanks back in May, along with lots of photos. Please visit the Nike ACG Blog Post for more information. If your eyes are a bit "tired," tote along a Mineral Water Brightener Pencil $18.00 is infused with 35% actual mineral water that feels cool to the touch, and reduces dark circles with a one-color-fits most concealer. It's blendable but not sticky, and helps de-puff as it provides a base for makeup of all types. A little goes a long way, and when you need it, it's a must-have.

NEW IN NAILS FOR SUMMERTIME:

Chanel has pulled out all the stops for Summer, with a Summer 2008 makeup collection that has sophisticated, wearable tones of sand, golden brown, bronze and khakis. Since your fingers and toes are likely to be more exposed this time of the year than any other, it makes sense to splurge on chic colors, now.   We adore the Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour $19.00 in two limited edition shades: "Antilope" is your must-have, a subtle, very frosted golden beige that looks amazing on pale skin, but gives a very different and sexy effect on a tan.  There's also a classic summertime favorite--a beautiful, shimmery, soft pink called "Flamingo." These may seem to be a bit of a splurge, but there's the "wow" factor of a great polish. The colors are incredible and trendy but totally beautiful, and the color slides on and looks flawless for days. The state-of-the-art formula strengthens and moisturizes nails, and the unique, patented,  non-spill bottle (with wiping action for easy application) makes it easy for do-it-yourself manicures.

Deborah Lippman, creator of the Lippman Collection is a favorite of celebrities seeking great manicures, including the likes of Cher, Demi Moore, Pat Benetar, Martha Stewart, Gwynneth Paltrow, Fergie, Renee Zellweger, Faith Hill, Kelly Ripa, Mary J. Blige, and Mariah Carey.  In 1999, Deborah launched her own line of signature nail lacquer and treatment products, called the Lippmann Collection--now she's one of our favorites, too.  Deborah is a jazz singer with two great CD's (we have reviewed them in our columns) so she names each of her colors after popular song titles--a cute touch.  For Spring/Summer 2008, we love two shimmery pink Nail Polishes $15.00/each that perk up pale skin, flatter a tan, too. The long-wearing, sheer formula goes on like a dream, lasts for days, and looks as luxe as it feels. "Dream a Little Dream of Me" is a girly, flirty, iridescent, cake-icing pink that looks right on every skin tone--a bit sassy, a bit subdued. Use one coat for a slight shimmer, several for more color.  "Don't Call Me Baby" is a watermelon pink with lots of shimmer that looks sheer and sparkly with one coat, also bolder, with two. These two pinks and of course, lots of the other colors in The Lippman Collection, will do your strappiest sandals, proud!

Neon never really goes out of style, but it’s even better in the Summer, when bold brights are the thing to have on fingers and toes. Essie’s limited edition NEON collection has a 60’s vibe that reminds me of the summer of love, and is more fun than a be-in.  Each Nail Polish $8.00 is a collector’s item. "Short Shorts” is a bright, flamingo pink that looks great with a tan, but oddly, flattered pale and freckled skin as well.  Same deal for “Mini Shorts,” a seriously bright neon orange that gives workman’s vests a run for their money. “Shorty Pants” is an electric yellow that makes even very short nails look happy,  funky and fun. Perhaps the most eye-catching of the quartet (and none of these are shy color) is “Bermuda Shorts,” a seriously high voltage violet that is as bright and exciting as a Peter Max pop art poster.  All are shiny, opaque, non-shimmery (a nice change from the metallics and shimmers we’ve been wearing) and of course, they’re long lasting. TIP:  Keep your Summer manicure and pedicure looking great, longer, by starting with a good base coat such as Essie’s First Base Base Coat  and finish off with a quick-drying top coat like Essie’s Good to Go!

A  2006 a study by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that 24% of Americans between 18 and 50 are tattooed (that's almost one in four) and that approx.  36% of Americans age 18 to 29 have at least one tattoo! For those of us who prefer our decorations to be remove-able, China Glaze has come up with a tattoo-inspired collection of Nail Polish $6.50/each that let you go wild, but have no regrets later on.  The 8-pc Box Collection $53.50 has a bottle of Nail Polish in each of the six major shades:  Flying Dragon (neon purple with glitter), Blue Sparrow (neon blue with glitter), Sacred Heart (bold red) Rose Among Thorns (neon pink), Japanese Koi (bright neon coral), Celtic Sun (bright neon yellow), and Ink (pure black with a fine line applicator brush to bring out the artist in you). The Set also includes a heart-shaped bottle of limited edition cuticle oil that reminds me of an old-fashioned perfume flacon full of orange blossom fragrance from Florida, given to me decades ago.  You can wear each of these high-quality, glossy nail lacquers as-is, or ink out a design with the Black Ink lacquer, fill it in carefully with the other colors, or simply add a design on top of the base color. If you're not comfortable with designing your own, the set comes with a tattoo-inspired set of nail decals with rhinestone accents, to do the hard work for you! We think it's the perfect way to release your inner "wild child" but still be able to go to that board meeting without covering up!  If you have the heart of a biker chic and the lifestyle of a soccer mom, you can still have fun with these....and your teenagers will go WILD over them!

Wouldn't it be dreamy if you could do your nails anywhere without mess, fuss or virtually any effort-- even at the beach? Now you can! Sally Hansen's new Color Quick Nail Polish $7.95 lets you re-do your nails, anytime, anywhere. Transform your nails with a nifty, click-it pen (with a brush tip) that lets you paint the polish on in just a few strokes!  The formula is quick and easy, and it's kind to nails, with panthenol and Vitamins A, C and E to condition, and a UV protector to keep the color from fading. The best part is that you can literally apply the polish on a ski lift, or at the shore, at your desk, or anywhere you wish, and not worry for a moment that it will leak or spill. There are 7 shades that vary from sheer, opalescent pink: “Sheer Opal,”  and a neutral “Sheer Beige,” to a smooth Red, two pinks (“Sheer Pink” and “Hot Pink')  and even a bright orange, a bold blue, and a stark black. The color dries fast and semi-shiny. TIP: to avoid drying out the pen, be sure to wipe off the brush with a tissue after each use. To make it last longer, apply Insta-Grip Fast Dry Base Coat $5.95 --a clear nail polish base that locks the color on and helps prevent peeling and staining. It also has a self-leveling action that smoothes ridges and imperfections so your polish looks smooth. Nail enhancing bennies include Goji Berry, pomegranate and Calcium to nourish growing nails. Summer nails needs extra TLC to prevent against drying and the elements and the damaging effects of the sun’s rays. We also like the Insta-Brite Nail Whitener $5.95 helps stained or dull nails to look smoother and brighter, much like a face product can do for your skin. It has special pigments and natural extracts that help create an optical brightening effect plus a UV filter to protect against ugly yellowing. It also fills ridges to help create a smoother finish for your nail polish, and most importantly intensifies the white of natural nails so they look clean and healthy. It’s a first step before adding polish that’s worth the extra effort. And once you’ve treated your nails and polished them, get going fast, with Insta-Dry Speed Dry Drops $5.95. Set one or two drops on each nail, and this liquid will allow you to touch your polish lightly in 30 seconds, drying it completely  to a hard finish in just 5 minutes. The liquid (with Shea Butter) also conditions cuticles and helps to prevent smudging, scratches, dents and adds a nice finish. Some of the quick-set/dry products smell like chemicals, but this one smells like lovely almond! It’s inexpensive, effect, and pleasant to use. These are must-haves for at-home manicures.

Keep your Summer manicures looking fresher, longer, with Super Shiney $6.00 .50 fl. oz by Creative Nail Design. This excellent product is a "must-have" to prolong the life of your manicures and pedicures. It is a clear, super-hard, high-gloss top coat that goes one better to keep nails strong, keep polish super-glossy, and keep color from fading. Nail polish, like hair, can oxidize in the sun, but Super Shiney's UV absorbers really help to prevent yellowing of polish!  Apply this as your manicure's top coat, and you'll not only protect your nails and color, but also add glamorous, patent-leather shine. Then, simply slick on another coat another every few days to keep the color bright and the finish looking great. This fast-drying formula is especially important if you love to wear bold, bright colors such as corals and reds, because these (again, like hair color) are the ones that fade the most dramatically and quickly without protection. This multi-tasking top coat is so easy to use and very effective--and once of prevention is really superb.

I have fair skin, and of course, my hands are always exposed to the sun's damaging rays when I'm outside, but there never used to be a product just for hands, and sunblocks seemed too "intense" when I was young. Alas, since my hands have been exposed to the sun's damaging rays all those years (before I knew better), I now have sun damage on my hands that has aged them a bit, and worse, might some day be potentially deadly. Thankfully, Borghese has developed Radiante Brightening Hand Creme SPF 30  $15.00 3.4 fl. oz that that lets me moisturize, protect my skin from the sun's rays, and actually improve the look and feel of my hands, too.  This multi-tasker has Borghese's signature Acqua Di Vita complex (deeply hydrates and protects hands) plus aloe leaf extract to soothe and make my skin feel more supple and retexturize the surface to make skin look more youthful, by balancing uneven skin tones. Shea Butter and Vitamins A & E, soften and make skin look more radiant.  But, best of all, there's a broad spectrum sunscreen with a powerful SPF 30 to help prevent further sun damage. The entire tube of rich cream will last a while, since just a little goes a long way.  There's no greasy feel, no smell, and less chance that your hands will look old before their time...a great product at a great price. I wish this product was around way back when, but there's no time like the present to prevent and protect your precious skin. I won't be leaving home without it anymore!

AMAZING LIPSTICKS  WITH SPF

Lip products with an SPF 15 or higher can really save your skin, while they beautify your lips.  And, if skin protection doesn't excite you (although you should be concerned about it), the Long Last Glosswear SPF $14.00 from Clinique's "Long-Lost Bronze" Summer 2008 collection the color of these glosses, will!  These are not wimpy glosses, they've got silky, stay-ability that allows you to apply this wanded gloss, and go for hours without re-applying it.  The SPF 15 helps protect with a combo of sunscreens and moisturizers that guard against dryness and chapping. For those with sensitive skin, these are allergy-tested and fragrance free (not everyone wants fragrance on their face, all the time). There are 18 shades in different coverage and intensities, from barely-there tints like "Clearly Pink" to deeper, more intense and shimmery "Rock Violet" (coordinates with the "Rock Violet" Quick Eyes Cream we reviewed in our last column).  Our lips felt moist and pampered, and we felt good knowing that we not only looked good, but we were doing good things to save our skin.

Chanel lipsticks are my #1 "gilty pleasure" when I'm purchasing something for myself.  For Summer, since it's important to have SPF protection on all parts of my face, I love For sheer color and that all-important SPF protection, try  Chanel's Aqualumière Sheer Colour Lipshine SPF 15 $26.00. I'll get beautiful color that's sheer but brilliant, plus the awesome addition of SPF 15 protection. For Summer, there are two, limited-edition shades to add to your lipstick collection--true "must-haves."  "Mauritius" is a  shimmery, warm rosed bronze, and  "Zanzibar" is a truly gorgeous, soft peach that flatters just about everyone, pale or tan.

There's never been any doubt in our minds that Shu Uemura makes some of the most beautiful lipsticks on Earth, and their Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shine $23.00 is an exceptional collection of 17 colors in beiges/browns, pinks, red/wines, and oranges (including one "artists" shade). The product offers a very luxurious, silky, super-light lipstick that literally "melts" onto your skin, activated by your lips' natural temperature, while a "Spectral booster" offers a crystal-like shimmer that catches the light.  The colors are beautiful, with moist, sexy shine that really catches your eye. The clear "crystal" lipstick tubes let you see the color --are a nice alternative to opaque ones that keep you guessing as you fumble in your drawer or bag. I tried a soft pink that looked natural, but not quite--my lips had more color, more life, more shine, looked plumper...definitely better than bare. That's the magic of Shu Uemura!

n January, we first reviewed tarte's Double Dose Berry Boost & Gloss $21.00, but we loved them so much we're mentioning them again as a Summer "must-have."  The unique, squeeze tube with angled flocked tip contains two products: an inner tube of tarte's antioxidant-rich T5 super fruit complex containing super fruits (goji, acai, maracuja, acerola and pomegranate), and an outer tube of clear, shiny, refreshing, minty gloss that's paraben, mineral-oil and phthalate free. The product also has Vitamin C,  shea butter to nourish and condition parched lips, and peppermint to soothe and invigorate. The colors are almost like shiny stained glass...enough to be colorful but not so much it looks "made up." "GoGo Goi" is a sparkling blush, "Acerola Rush" is a sparkling golden peach, "Acai Boost" is a sparkling raspberry (my fave for lips that look like they've been dyed naturally from eating raspberries, plus sexy gloss) and there's also a rich, sensual red, "Pomegranate punch". They're sensational and good for your lips!  The user-friendly packaging makes it a must-have for purse, tote and beach bag!

Beauty with "brawn" is how I'd describe the Lip Treatment Moisturizer SPF 15 $19.50 by Borghese.  There are four natural, wearable , sheer colors, but these multi-tasking lip colors are wrapped around a unique core of "treatment" that offer vitamins, skin conditioners and PABA-free SPF 15. The core also contains Borghese's signature Acqua di Vita® Complex to keep lips feeling as moist as they look. These are lipsticks that you won't feel foolish applying at the beach!

LOVELY SUMMER LIPSTICKS WITHOUT SPF:

As a beauty reviewer, I do not buy lipsticks very often, but when I do, they are usually by Chanel.  The one I think is  the most splurge-worthy of all is Chanel Rouge Allure $30.00, a truly luxe, satiny lip color in the niftiest lipstick tube--a push-in-release tube that won't separate in your handbag, and looks just so super-slick. The lipstick is super-long lasting, and feels wonderful on your lips.  Two new colors for Summer have different personalities: "Naïve is a pink nude," while "Curious" is a subtle nude brown that makes lips look just a bit bronzed, in a pretty and natural way.  If I counted correctly, there are 30 colors in all to choose from. The hard part will be picking one. Rouge Hydrabase $26.00 is a creamy lipstick that deeply moisturizes while it beautifies. These lipsticks give you loads of silky, pampering, moisture with a whopping 42 colors to choose from offering a satiny, medium-coverage color that lasts and lasts. Vitamin E and chamomile protect and soothe your lips, too. Two new,  limited edition colors are just for Summer 2008:  I love big cats, so I couldn't help but love "Leopard"  a golden coral, and for those who need that bold, summer pink, there's the bright, warm, bold and cheerful rose called: "Rose Flamingo."  Every woman deserves at least one wonderful Chanel lipstick to make her feel special all day and evening long. The time is right to choose your special one!

We love long wearing lipsticks that don't dry our your lips, and make lips look amazing....oh, and it's even better if we have dozens of colors to choose from! Max Factor's new Lipfinity 3-D $8.84 has just hit the store shelves and fulfills our wishes.  For starters, you get a dual ended wand with rich color on one end, and a highlighting, glossy,  top coat that has ingredients to keep lips shiny and soft without ruining the staying power of the color.  Worn together, they offer a three-dimensional effect with 26 runway-inspired shade combos to choose from!  The lipstick managed to make it almost through the workday without a touch-up (although we re-applied the glossy top coat for more shine and moisture).  The base color goes on silky and smooth and bright, the gloss, shimmery and luxurious.  Wear "Corail Cristall," a nearly-red coral with a shimmery apricot gloss coat, that looks great with a tan, pale or bold. We also liked "Mauve Sequence," a berried mauve with a shimmery overlay that looks really sexy. With all the color choices, you'll want more than a few, and you'll love the affordable price.

The Advice Sisters blog from Fashion Week 2007 contains previous references to Mood Swing Lip Gloss $18.50 by Too Faced. This light, clear gloss that blossoms into personalized shades of pink from medium to deep fuchsia depending on your "moods" (body chemistry).  The gloss not only is fun to use, but it has essential oils and extracts improves to keep your lips youthful and soft, while natural sunscreens protect and make it a perfect partner for your beach tote. But glosses and lipsticks can bleed into fine lines and cracks, especially when your lips are dry from the sun, heat, winds, etc. Borderline $18.50 is a little pencil with synthetic beeswax and some good for your lips ingredients that keep other lip products in check, easily, quickly, and cleanly. It comes with it's own sharpener, and I wouldn't leave home without one of these in my makeup bag, ever again!  For those battling "creeping" color, this is a true godsend. TIP: Create a natural lip shape by staying slightly inside the lip. To plump up lip shape apply around your lip area slightly outside your natural lip line.

There's just something so cool about applying a FACE Stockholm Lipstick $20.00 in it's sleek, luxe, shiny, silvery tube. Two shades for Summer 2008 cater to bold and milder tastes:  "Smile"  is a bright, bold, iridescent fuschia that gets you noticed, as it shimmers with cool, blue iridescence. If your skin is cool toned and/or deep, this color will light up your life. "Njuta" is also cool toned, but it is a more classic, moist, non-shimmery, rosed pink that looks sexy and elegant, especially when it's defined with a FACE Stockholm Lip Pencil $16.00 (we like "Ann Marie," a softy, easy-to-apply, flesh-colored nude that will work with just about every lipstick to keep it in place. .

There's nothing I like better than unique packaging, but the product inside has got to be great as well, if it's going to capture my attention. Pro-To-Go Lipstick $9.00 by Avon has got it all: great packaging, great formula, great colors, and a reasonable price. A sleek, shiny, black, squared-off tube that's slightly longer than the average lipstick case opens at the top with a sort of "trap door" that's activated by a slide on the side.  There's no way a cap can fall off in your bag and even better, you can open, apply and close the tube with one hand. The lipstick itself is super-hydrating--just what we need for Summer weather.  It feel silky and is long-lasting, but this beauty treat for lips also comes in 15 beautiful colors that run the gamut from berry to coral, nude to rose.  All the colors are classic and wearable, including "Warm Pink" for a soft, natural pink pout that works on virtually every skin tone. And for those who still want a brighter, bolder look, I recommend the warm, gold-glitzed, "Golden Rose."  This lipstick is innovative, fun to use, and will guarantee beauty benefits for the wearer, several ways!

Way back in 2002 we raved over Cover Girl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor $9.50,a  product that lasted as long as any we've ever tested (up to 16 hours, depending upon whether you eat, or tend to chew your lipstick). The first is also one of the best, perfect for Summer when you don't want to fuss. The product is a two-step process. The base coat comes in a very wide variety of gorgeous colors to suit every complexion, every mood, every personality. The wanded colors are intense, and once they set (in a matter of 30 seconds or less) and you apply the clear, moisturizing topcoat (that's step two), the lipcolor will look moist and outlast much of the competition.  The clear, moisturizing topcoat makes this lipcolor feel more comfortable, keeps lips from totally drying out, and it also glides over dry spots and cracks (exfoliate your lips and make sure that they are in good condition for the best results).  If you want to "set it and forget it" with your lipstick, this one is a great choice....leave your lipstick at home and you can even carry smaller purse! We tried "Natural Blush," a deep rosed berry "Lingering Spice,"  a browned rose.

The lip glosses by Dianne Brill should be called "Diane Brilliant," because they are some of the glossiest to be found. Panties in a Bunch $39.00 by Dianne Brill.  The glosses are gorgeous, but the packaging is adorable:  a pink and white cardboard slider box that reveals the mini lip glosses, nestled into frilly candy papers like the yummy confections they are. The glosses are not just shiny and shimmery, they also offer benefits for your skin with 20% vitamins, antioxidants, a lip pout, and humectants. Your lips not only look great, they stay soft and nourished, too. This set of minis includes three faves: "Frilly Thong" (electric rose), "Sheer String" (warm nude with sparkle); "Jeweled G-String" (opalescent with sparkle) and three limited edition colors just for this set:  "Pearly Panty" (cool nude violet with shimmer); "Vinyl V-String" (scarlet with gold sparkle) and my favorite, "Satin Hipster," a cool lavender with shimmer).  Brill's Full Sized Lip gloss $21.00 are also special treats. I don't love sticking my fingers in pots of gloss, but this one is an exception. The light-reflecting, shiny colors simply lift your lips to prettier, sexier heights (some of the flickery shades are even created with tiny real sterling silver shimmer).  However, when you want to keep things "au naturale" "Buff Babydoll" is a honey-clear gloss that works as a natural lip enhancer.

There are times when I just have to have a new lipstick, but I don't want to invest, I just want something new and nifty, now. N.Y.C. New York Color's Lip Candy $3.99, a clear, round compact with three sweetly-scented shades of lip color fits the bill, perfectly. The silky lip tints add a touch of silky, shiny color. We tried "Soho Sweet Tart," a tempting trio featuring a sheer peach shimmer, a watermelon-colored lip tint, and a berried shimmer, to mix together, or wear solo. And we also tried "Soho SweetHeart,"a trio of shimmery peach, deep rose, and deep berry, all infused with shimmer and shine. These are satisfying treats with no calories, and a price that won't turn your budget into a disaster. The clear compact makes the stripes of color, easy to choose and pleasing to use.

The Tinted Lip Balm $18.00 by Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is a year-round treat and one of our perennial "must-haves." The award-winning, silky, nurturing, moist balm treats lips to the benefits of a true balm, but Bobbi Brown's balms also give lips a hit of long-lasting, sheer color, with the ease of a swivel up tube. The three new colors for Summer are limited edition, from the "Bronze Pink" Collection. All three are sheer, shimmery, warm, and subtle. "Golden Pink" is a light pink that adds just a bit of pink glow to lips, while "Desert Pink" adds a universally flattering wash of soft, rosed brown to lips, and "Desert Bronze" adds a flattering bronzed nude that looks amazing with a light tan. All three work with every skin tone, every outfit, and for every occasion. Be sure to pop one in your pocket before you leave home and apply it often, and your lips will not only look nice during the day, they will actually be in better shape at the end of the day than at the beginning!

FINE FOUNDATION & BLUSH (WITHOUT SPF) :

What I like about the new, MAX Factor ColorGenius Foundation with Minerals $9.99 is that it is so versatile.  It gives your face a natural, sheer to semi-sheer look without any effort at all, in a dozen shades (5 ivory tones, 4 naturals, and 3 honey). Add just a little for a sheer cover, or another coat for more coverage.  It's easy to blend, is oil free and won't clog pores, it's suitable for a number of skin types, and it lasts.  In fact, this product, available for the first time this July, was used on the models walking the runways at New York's Fall 2008 fashion week!  Your skin will look wonderful, and you'll still feel as if your skin had nothing on it.  And, if you want to add on a glow, The MAX Factor ColorGenuis Mineral Bronzer $8.49  is a good quality,  loose, minerals-infused bronzing powder that has flamenco gold flecks to give your faux tan a genuine gleam.  There's Sunset and SunKissed.  Both have light reflectors to make that "Down to Rio" look even more flawless.  Open the shaker jar and use the included puff to dust the bronzer just where the sun usually hits (forehead, nose, cheeks) or go all the way to "tan" by lightly dusting it on your entire face. these are great product at fabulous prices!

The Advice Sisters have been fans of Clinique Lip Glosses for decades.  For Summer, try a lip gloss that's also a balm: Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss $13.50 in four new limited edition colors from the "Air-Kissed Colours" Summer 2008 collection. The gloss is super-shiny, silky, long lasting, and offers a bit of color with lots of light-reflecting shine, but the gloss also treats lips with antioxidants and skin soothers that make even dry, chapped lips look soft, moisturized, and protected. The slant-tipped squeeze tube makes it easy to carry in a pocket or tote, and you don't need a mirror to apply it perfectly. We sampled two of the four colors: "Hazelnut" is a shimmery nude that looks better than bare with just a hint of peachy nude tint.  "Cocoa" adds just a bit of browned mauve to lips to enhance a tan, or add life to a pale face. There's also "Guava" and "Passionfruit."

If you have a deep complexion or a deep tan, but want to add some color to your cheeks, a run-of-the-mill blush in a subtle, so-so nude color wont' do. A great choice is the Creme Blush $23.00 from FACE Stockholm called "New York."  Like the City that never sleeps, this blush isn't shy. It's a silky gel blush that slides on as a sheer tint, but it's not a retiring rose, it's in the hottest-of-the-hot, blue-based, amazing hot pink we've ever seen. It magically blends into skin as if the color was always there, without any greasy feel, shimmer, glitter, or pearl.  If you use just a little, it'll work with every skin tone, but for those who want a perfect hot pink, it's just the thing to wear with confidence.  This may be your newest, "can't-live-without."

AMAZING SUMMER-EYES:

Sexy, satiny-smooth, long-lasting, gorgeous eye color can be yours, even if you have just one Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow $27.50 by Chanel. Remove the shiny black mirrored compacts with white Chanel logo from the chic, black, velveteen pouch and you are wearing a true classic designer original (at significantly less than the cost of a Chanel bag or shoes). The ultra-fine, super-smooth powder comes in matte, shimmer and satin.  Use just one, or blend one with another to lighten, darken, intensity, and make the color, your own. These are shadows to covet.  For Summer, make your eyes softly shimmer with a very versatile, limited edition pink rose color called "Nomade" and the gorgeous, shimmery "Tigre" a soft bronze." There's also "Khaki," a nearly iridescent, classy, khaki that could be the new "gold" this Summer) and "Safari, (shimmery, soft pewter/old gold that adds elegant flash to your lids) plus all the other incredible Chanel shades. You'll feel like you're ready to walk the red carpet, even if all you're doing is walking to the store!  TIP:  If you have dark circles or imperfections, Chanel's excellent Pro Lumiere Correcteur Professional Finish Concealer $38.00 delivers a velvety, super-blendable ,liquid, brush-on concealer in an easy-tote-clean-to-use click-it pen with brush tip. This little wonder will cover the things you want to conceal, but your skin will still look natural--amazing! There are five shades: light, medium light, medium, medium deep, and deep to suit just about every skin tone. One of these is must-have in everyone's makeup bag.

Wearing glam makeup should be fun!  The Body Shop's Shimmer Cubes $19.50 give you value, glamour and fun. A clear, plastic cube is the "mother ship" for four, smaller plastic cubes, each containing a super-shimmery and pearly, light-diffusing block of shadow. You can take them out of the larger box and tote one, two ore more along, then put them back in the cube when you're done--fun! Pick one, or more, and add sparkling allure to your lids, while actually helping to disguise fine lines on the eyelids. The powders are long lasting and easy to use, thanks to Community Trade marula oil  that make them soft and smooth to apply. We tried Palette #07, with sparkling ruby, pink, bronze and silver, but there's a limited edition version with blue, red, green and a coppery gold. Check them out. When you wear them other will check you out, too!

last month we reviewed a few products from the impressive and inexpensive Skin Loving Minerals Collection by Prestige Cosmetics.  This month, we are focusing on the eyes, with a take-it-with-you anywhere, Baked Shadow Quad Mineral Eyeshadow $9.95  A quartet of soft, sheer, shimmery, color-swirled mounds of pressed mineral powder can be used wet or dry. The hypo-allergenic powders are all 100% talc, oil, paraben, and fragrance free, plus the raw material base has too-many-to-mention here, great-for-your-skin antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, plus a dose of titanium dioxide to provide natural color and light reflecting properties. The colors are subtle and the shadow is soft and very blendable (add water for an intense, pearly finish. We tried "Joia," a quartet of gold, green, bronze and copper--colors right for Summer sizzle.  There's also "Bijou" and "Gemma."  If you want just one compact of color, the Dramatic Minerals Single EyeShadow $4.95 comes in 9 long-wearing, wet/dry shades in simple, round, perfectly-clear plastic compacts. We particularly liked "Lapis," a sensational, sheer, shimmery, subtle sea-green that reminds us of a butterfly wing. No matter which you choose, these are real beauty finds. Add a Skin Loving Mineral Eye Liner $4.95 in one of six shades, to give dense color in a soft, blendable pencil that rivals some of the more pricey ones. "Topaz," a shimmery, deep blue, give eyes sex appeal in seconds.

Bobbi Brown's new, limited edition Metallic Eye Shadow $20.00 comes in two, just-for-the Summer shades that glimmer in a subtle, soft, "Bronzed Pink" and a subdued shimmery golden copper "Penny."  The shadow comes in a generous square of pressed powder with a clear-see-through compact.  The long-lasting, luxurious, silky shadow blends into lids like it was meant to be there, with a shimmery glow that catches the light, but looks soft, not club-ish.  We tried the shadows in a hot and humid environment and they didn't crease or turn color. Now that's worth it's weight...in gold!

FACE Stockholm's eye offerings for Summer include the contrast of dark and light Pearl Eye Shadow $18.00 in "#29," a shimmery, light-as-can-be, silver grey that can be used as a highlight or lid color, and "37," a deep, rich, slightly iridescent pearl copper that we also like as a powder liner. Together, they're the perfect pair for Summer wear. The FACE Stockholm Indelible Gel Eyeliner $22.00 is a little pot of easy to apply, long-lasting liner that you apply with a brush.  Line precisely, or blend the liner to make a smoky eye look. Either way, the liner will stay where you put it, even when the heat and humidity act up. Tip: Add life and brighten your eyes, even when you are seriously tired, with a White Eye Pencil $16.00 added to the inner part of your eyelids.

Lash Power Mascara Long Wearing Formula $14.00 by Clinique is new, nifty, and gives lashes true "girl power"  We didn't test it for up to 24 hours it is supposed to last, but it will last without smudging or smearing. The brush is designed to coat lashes evenly, and they will lengthen literally in front of your very eyes--even gets to those tiny lashes in the corners so you can't bat your eyes with wild abandon!  The mascara will not only look good, it'll last through rains, sweat, and even, tears (hopefully, of joy) so it's the perfect partner for a wedding day.  And, yet....when you're ready to clean your face, it'll wash off with warm water!!!  You can just use your fingertips to splash warm water on lashes several times and press gently with a washcloth, or wet a cotton pad with warm water, press to eye, then wipe away. Try "Black Onyx" or "Dark Chocolate."  Fabulous at black tie events, and even, the beach or a baseball game!

Besame Cosmetics has an inspired line of classic makeup that creates the look and vibe of old Hollywood glamour, Their 40's-inspired products, packaged in shiny golden retro compacts and tubes decorated with Besame's signature chrysanthemum design, makes you feel like a star. Now they've created a very special Gingerbread 1930's Waterproof Mascara $24.00 that has a spicy "gingerbread" aroma reminiscent of a 1930's formula, but this modern version is waterproof, made with natural conditioning oils and food grade colorants. It's allergy tested, paraben-free, and safe for sensitive eyes. All this is great, but believe it or not, this conditioning mascara stays put until you wash it off....and you can do that easily with a little soap and water, or makeup remover if you wish. The beautiful golden tube is a treat--so pretty!  It's just a treat to use. The mascara itself leaves lashes evenly coated, full, and lush.  Interestingly, this mascara doesn't come in the color of gingerbread, just a subtle black that flatters everyone. This is an elegant little luxury that makes "making up" just a bit more fun!

When I first saw the Eye Candy Eyeshadow Compact called "Brighton Beach" from N.Y.C. New York Color (from their "Big Apple Bronzing Collection," I instantly thought: "this is a bronzing palette for the eyes," and instantly loved it. Five sexy stripes of earthy color: beige, brown, rust, charcoal brown, and bronze, work either together or separately to give your eyelids the same kind of sun-kissed glow you create with bronzing powders for your face. These colors are slight-to-high shimmer, and are fairly opaque. They blend well, and can be used as highlighters, lids colors, and liners. Everything you need for a complete eye look comes in one simple, clear, round compact.  "Coney Island Beach" is also perfect for Summer, with natural shades including beige and ivory, a deep rose, brown, and a dark brown for definition/liner. These are pretty, easy to use, versatile (use them wet or dry, together, or separately), and great for weekend travel. At this price, you can get more than one, too.

Need a new mascara?  You can't go wrong with the new LASHBLAST Volume Blasting Mascara $8.49 by Cover Girl, that I had the pleasure of testing at the "Evenings in Vogue" party at the hot club Oak in NYC a few months ago. I love the chunky, easy to hold orange mascara wand with a patent-pending (also orange) brush. There's also a patented volume-boosting formula that helps make lashes thick, long, and non-clumping. The mascara comes in four colors: black, very black, black brown, and brown, and in two formulas:  washable and waterproof. Both are safe for contact lens wearers, and are smudge and smear-proof.  Any and all will enhance your lashes, and you won't have to pay a lot of money for a great lash look!

JUST FOR THE GUYS:

When my husband and I married, he told me that on Father's Day he always gave his dad a soap-on-a-rope. To him, a chunky hunk of soap with a masculine smell is the quintessential symbol of father's day.  But there's not time like today to say: "I love you" with a "just because" gift. With a clear, fresh, marine scent reminiscent of the sea, the Tommy Bahama Set Sail South Seas for Men Soap-on-a-Rope $16.50 11 oz. by Tommy Bahama Group is a wonderful choice. The ergonomically styled rounded rectangular soap hangs from a twisted, white rope long enough to place even over a large shower head.  The scent is truly delish--an uplifting blend of aromatic citrus with a bit of rum, plus  watery hints and soft woods (what else would go into a "nautical" scent?). The soap smells very manly but it's also fresh and invigorating. He'll love the lather, the scent, the man-sized bar that feels good in his hand. You'll love the well he smells, après shower. This is a lovely, inexpensive pick-me-up gift for the great guy (or a great dad).

The Lip Butter $9.00  in "Guava" by Korres is not just for guys, but we think the moisturizing, silky, buttery balm that has shea butter for seriously good moisturization, will appeal to guys. Although the other three Lip Butters have a tint to them, this one is moistly matte and clear, enhancing the look of your lips, but without any "girly" effects.  And, we think guys will enjoy the smooth texture of the "butter," in place of the usual, waxy stick that always seems to be made for guys. This highly effective balm is a treat for us girls, too (and check out the sheer rose, coral and red versions, too).

Redken makes a superb collection of hair care and styling products just for men. Redken For Men Outplay Texture Putty $14.00 3.4 oz offers strong control for guys who like chunky, piece-y styles. The lightly scented, fresh-smelling "putty" looks like a mud masque in the jar, but It contains mineral salts to grab hair and give a pro or amateur stylist control. The waxy texture lets guys style easily, without having to fight with their hair, and it has a non-greasy, matte finish. Although it's made to appeal to the guys, women with similar styling needs, for example, piecy, beachy looks, will be easily able to share it. So guys, remember what the purple dinosaur of your youth admonished: "sharing is caring."

Allure Homme by Chanel is a fragrance that takes it's inspiration from the women's scent by Chanel of the same name, but it couldn't be more different. This expensive-smelling, manly, wonderful scent has bright, citruss-y top Notes  of Bergamot, Mandarin, Citron Zest, a sexy, spicy heart of Jamaican Pepper; and smooth, classic, sensual bottom notes of Vetiver, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Tonka Bean, and Labdanum, all packed inside a classic, clear, square-ish bottle with matte silver cap.. The effect is warm and inviting, crisp and clean, and sexy, all at once. Modern and classic, casual and still appropriate for evening, it's a scent with contradictions that work, a soft and fruity, zesty, woody-spicy scent (yes, all of these)! It's a classy scent a man of virtually any age (over teen) can wear with confidence for any occasion.  For Summer, we particularly suggest the Chanel Allure Homme After Shave Lotion $48.00 3.40 oz.  This luxe product is actually a multi-tasker--a purifying lotion scented with Allure Homme that not only soothes razor burn (that, you'd expect from an after shave) but it also help to tighten pores, refreshes skin, and it leaves a bit of that glorious fragrance on his skin so when someone gets up close, they can enjoy it as well. If he's a man not into fragrance, but who will use after shave, this one will give him (and you) the most enjoyment for the money.
