GREATEST GIFTS:  It is great to get gift but even more fun to give them!  For Mother's Day (May 8th), a birthday, another special occasion, or just to treat yourself, these are great gifts to get or to receive.

We loved Alex and Ani Face, Hand & Body Lotion when we introduced it in our Winter, 2003 column. However, it's designer Carolyn Rafaelian's jewelry & accessories that win the hearts of celebrity clients such as Jessica Simpson, Gwynneth Paltrow, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, and Cameron Diaz.  Her jewelry uses vintage and new materials. The pieces have a modern sensibility but a classic wearability that makes it easy for a woman of any generation to make Alex and Ani her "signature." One way to start your collection, and your love affair, with Alex and Ani her Expandable Wire Bracelets $58.00 non-etched, $78.00 etched, adorned up to $128, set of 7.  The bangles are designed in (gold, pink gold or silver gold) wire plain, etched, or festooned with  crystals, gems, semi precious stones, hearts, shapes or initials. The bracelets look deceptively simple - two loops and a double section of wire that slides open and closed. One thin bangle looks chic and an armful, amazing! As someone with a very thin wrist for whom bangles are sometimes hard to wear, I particularly appreciated the way the bracelets found the perfect comfortable, secure, place on my arm. However, another woman with wide hands and wrists loved how easy it was to get the bracelets on an off  through the thin "loops"  that offer a personalized fit.  As your collection grows (there is hair jewelry and purses, too),  mix and match! Alex and Ani could become an addiction!

pashmina shawl.JPG (1028165 bytes) What's soft, sunny-yellow, scattered with beautiful flowers and the ultimate accessory for Spring?  A large, luxurious Pashmina Shawl $200 from the RUSH Gallery (photo-detail). The Rush Gallery, new to our reviews, brings Eastern treasures with a Western sensibility to fashionistas and to the home. This Pashmina shawl is chic to throw over your shoulders when the weather isn't quite warm enough to go without outwear. It's packable for travel or when you're out on the town. Pashmina comes from the Capra-Hircus Goat and is one of the lightest, softest, most luxurious fabrics in the world. The shawl is a blend of 70/30 wool/silk for durability. There are many colors, but we light yellow is a modern neutral that goes with everything. These  Rush Gallery Pashminas are custom made to order, crafted in the mountains of Nepal and India by local weavers. They are truly fit for a queen (or your special mom, bridesmaids, and you). We love the exclusive design of five pearl and yellow seed bead "sunflowers" connected by "stems" of yellow and clear seed beads in gracefully curving patterns. It is a fusion of Asian craft with modern style. This is an investment piece -- a modern classic that is destined to become an heirloom.  You'll reach for it all the time. TIP: Always hand wash your fine wools, including pashmina shawls, in cold water using a gentle soap. Never bleach or use very hot water. Dry it flat. You may gently press out any wrinkles with a hot iron. Another exclusive item from the RUSH Gallery perfect for your Spring parties and nights out, Mother's Day, or as a gift for bridesmaids is an exquisite, brocade silk/cotton Evening Clutch $55.00  One of the hottest colors for Spring is hot pink. This has a hot pink background covered with a small, floral design embroidered with gold thread. Hidden magnetic closures hold the purse closed so the look remains sleek and uncluttered.  Best of all, at 10" x 4"   it's big enough to carry the things you really need!

lauren hutton.jpg (2256 bytes) Lauren Hutton is one of our heroines..  A woman past a certain age who is not only a supermodel and successful businesswoman, but one who focuses on helping other women look and feel beautiful at 40, 50 and beyond. We reviewed (and loved) Lauren's first kit, the Face Disk in our Summer 2003 column. The Passport to Africa $59.00 is the newest incarnation of that great, all-one kit.  This kit comes in a cute, brown leatherette "faux" United States passport case. Inside, two plastic compacts are filled 17 individual products that help you create an easy, natural look. Three special moisturizers (with ingredients found in Africa) make your skin look and feel youthful and soft.  The kit comes in light, medium or dark shades in two hard, plastic compacts with mirror. The Cream Makeup Compact has 4 Spot Concealers, 2 Sheer Concealers, 2 Face Colors and a Tinted Lip Balm plus mirror. The Powder Makeup Compact holds: Contour Shadow, Blush, a Pooch & Nose, an Eyebrow powder, Wet/Dry Eyeliner,  Pressed Powder and a Bronzer. In the middle (tucked into elastic bands), is a black mascara.  The makeup was developed by Ms. Hutton after spending more than three decades in front of a cameras and learning from makeup artists. It's high quality and high performance, but it's the way she de-mystifies application that is so valuable and important. ou also get "flash cards" depicting Lauren's trips to Africa with illustrated application instructions and makeup tips on the back. Give this beautiful set of sheer, lightweight, natural enhancers to a globe-trotting Mom or someone who just loves great makeup kits. If you're not a kid anymore, get one for yourself, too. You won't want to be without it after you try it.

Do you want a simply brilliant gift for a woman who loves makeup?  Then you'll want to pick one of the two, limited edition party-perfect compacts called Simply Brilliant $32.00 by Stila. It's so new we don't even have a photo to show you yet, but wait until you see these!   A petite, rectangular, black satin compact with a rhinestone-studded magnetic clasp looks just like an evening clutch, but inside there is a large mirror,  two large pans of eye shadow (light peach or pink with a warm or cool bronze shimmer, and a coordinating blush (peachy-pink for warm, rose for cool). Of course the colors are flattering, sophisticated, long-lasting, and modern--they're by Stila!  This is the perfect trio to accompany you to dinner, on a date, to a wedding, or anywhere you want to feel special.  It's cute, it's clever, it's gorgeous.!

The Spring and Summer are full of special holidays and reasons to give a gift, or treat yourself to a little indulgence. While a candle is always a thoughtful gift, one from Annick Goutal is not only welcomed, it's coveted!  Boîte à  Epices Candle $30.00 will be exclusively available at Saks Fifth Avenue stores this Spring. The large, 40-hour candle comes in an impressive, substantial, cream colored cardboard box with Annick Goutal Paris in gold lettering on the front, and a shiny gold mesh ribbon bow. The candle itself is in a clear, glass votive with classic gold rim and a gold G logo in the middle. The scent is a blend of Caribbean laurel, St. Thomas berries, cardamom, ginger and cinnamon. The scent wafts out of the box immediately, reminding you of exotic bazaars in far away lands. The fragrance oozes glamour, but it is appealing to both men and women - a true feature of many Annick Goutal scents. We love it. Mom (your best friend, a bride to be, etc) will LOVE IT, too!

Deborah Lippman, creator of the Lippman Collection is not only a fave of celebrities seeking great manicures, but she is also a soulful chanteuse with a very pretty voice--who knew? Her Compact Disk called "Nightingale" $14.00 has beautiful jazz stylings of many favorites such as: "Too Darn Hot" and "Since I Fell For You."  For a unique mother's day gift you can all enjoy, get the CD (available at Sephora and box it with a few luxe Lippman Collection nail products. There's a lot of talent to enjoy here!

Good tools are an artist's pride and passion.  If you love makeup you already know that part of perfect application is having great brushes.  Treat yourself to a brush designed by one of the all-time masters of makeup -- Kevyn Aucoin.   His Lip Brush $25.00 for example, is a thin, black, lightweight brush with a swivel up tip that is flawlessly designed for precision . Even women who are all thumbs found it possible, perhaps even easy to apply a perfect line,  to a deep lip color  without fear or failure! Treat Mom, or yourself, to a lip brush gift that you are sure to use and appreciate,  every day. Why not package it with a luxe lipstick? Check our LIPS section on What Works Page One for some great, new ones.

jet set kit.jpg (9034 bytes) Are you (or Mom) a  globe-trotter or road warrior?  The limited edition Jet Set Kit $49.00 from Jouer is just the thing to take on the road (or use at home). A pink satin sleep mask accompanies four, white, plastic rectangles with peek-a-boo clear tops (and small, interior mirrors) that slide together (or apart) on their sides (as do all Jouer products) to make a face-in-a-case set or for travel. The cream-to-powder products are moist and smooth to apply. They stay true to color, too!  You get an Iridescent Moisture (a shimmering all over highlighting moisture balm), All Over Color in Sunkissed (a shimmering golden bronze face color to suit most complexions), Cream Eyeshadow in Peridot (a deep, shimmering olive), and a  Lip Gloss in Starfish (an outstanding, super-shiny, sheer-as-can-be shimmer with a hint of pink. All you need for a a fast, finished look at home, for traveling, or as a touch-up kit at work!

Looking for a great hostess gift, a little splurge for yourself, or a non-fattening Mother's Day treat?  Indulge in Indulge Beauty, brainchild of Dominica Baird who began this unique line in 2003 with scented candles.  Although the line has expanded since then, the Creme Brulee Candle $28.00 19,75 oz  from the Bakery Collection is one you won't want to miss.  Open the white cardboard box festooned with it's cheerful lime and pink polka-dotted satin ribbon, and unwrap the goldenrod colored candle in a heavy, clear glass votive. You can't help but think :yummm!" as you inhale the intoxicating scent of warmed brown sugar! The burn time on this generous candle is 60 hours. Don't like creme brulee? We didn't preview them but we'll bet that German Chocolate Cake, Raspberry Almond Torte, Sugared Grapefruit and White Chocolate Mousse are equally as divine!

We introduced Bonjour Fleurette to you in our Winter, 2005 column. For Spring, everything is coming up flowers -- including new Bonjour Fleurette luggage/ID tags!  ($25.00/3, $10.00 each).  Oversized, flexible plastic tags are in the shape of pink, red, yellow, purple and green flowers (daisies and roses). One side has the eye-catching design, the other, a window to insert ID information. Attach one to anything you want to easily id as yours (eg. computer bags, backpacks and luggage) and get a few more to pump up the "cute"  factor on your gym and beach bags! Adorable and affordable!

Want in inexpensive little gift that will last a long time and always remind your recipient of you, fondly?  Get a chic Mesh Makeup Bag $12.00 by FACE Stockholm. Empty, the attractive, eye-catching zippered coppery metallic see-through mesh pouch is 5" x 7" - big enough to hold all your tote-able makeup items. Even better, use it as a "wrap" to hold a perfume gift for Mom, or perhaps a few new Spring makeup items (from FACE Stockholm of course).

calrea clover leaf.jpg (10437 bytes) It's time for Spring cleaning. Usually it's a nasty chore but now Caldrea, new to our review, gives you a better and more satisfying way to clean.  Why shouldn't cleansing products be luxe and fun to use?  Caldrea products are completely out of the ordinary. They're not only packaged in chic containers, but they contain only plant-derived ingredients and essential oils.  Environmentally-conscious folks will be happy to learn that these products are biodegradable and are not tested on animals. The minute you use one of these high-end products you'll realize that they're not just cleansers, but home enhancers. The fragrances are wonderful  (eg. lavender pine, green tea patchouli, rose anise) to make your home smell wonderful, not like a chemical factory. A perfect way to experience Caldrea or as gift for Mom, a hostess, or a housewarming is the Clover Leaf Sink Gift Set $40.00 (photo).  I tried the "Green Tea Patchouli" fragrance--a very pleasant, light, earthy scent. In a waterproofed, antiqued bronze metal caddy there are general pump bottles of Hand Soap Liquid 16 oz, Dish Soap Liquid 16 oz, and Hand Lotion 12 oz.

Monica R. Nassif, founder of Mrs. Meyers Clean Day used her mother's passion for cleaning as the model of her nicely packaged cleaning products. They're made with essential oils (the same in every product so you can coordinate the scent throughout your home) and gentle but effective cleansing agents fragranced with lemon verbena, lavender or geranium. The products are biodegradable, made with minimal preservatives come in recyclable packaging.)  I tried the Carry All Cleaning Kit $19.00 in "Geranium," a four product set of basics.  My house smelled clean and pleasantly scented with the fresh-smelling floral! The products are adorably packaged in a sturdy cardboard "milk carton." You get a 20 oz All-Purpose Cleaner, 16 oz Dish Soap, 12.5 oz Liquid Hand Soap and a super 16 oz Counter Top Spray ). They clean effectively and a little goes a long way, so they're a good value, too. Cleaning house isn't a glam chore, but these products help elevate it to a relative pleasure. What a superb housewarming gift, too!

Laundry is another chore that develops a more pleasant patina with high quality, effective cleansers. The Laundress White Detergent $18.00 32 fl. oz. looks like a lemony bottle of key lime juice, but it's actually a detergent with optical brightener and stain fighting ingredients designed to gently un-dinge those white clothes that have been sitting (and yellowing) in your drawers all Winter, and return them to, well ... white! There are four scents, but we tried the "Classic"  which blends musk, citrus, yang and sandalwood.  What a relief to ditch the chemical smells of most detergent and enjoy clothes that smell as fresh and attractive as they look! This would make a great gift (packaged with one of The Laundress signature laundry or storage bags $10-$85.00!

tony & Tina sun goddess.jpg (2691 bytes) The sun is fun, but you can get too much of a good thing. Get the "sun goddess" look without the sun's harmful rays. The Tony & Tina Sun Goddess Set $35.00 holds mini versions of popular Tony & Tina makeup for a sun kissed look: Tony & Tina Lip Gloss in Nymph, a sheer, shimmery, glossy  copper to wear alone or as a glosscoat.  There's also a 3 "N" 1 Universal Bronzer Pressed Powder in a trio of  light/ivory/medium bronze to use separately or together. Glam up  body or face with a dusting of Cosmetic in" Bronze"to enhance shoulders, neck, anyplace you want a bit of golden shimmer. This makes a great Mother's Day gift for a sun-loving lady.

EYES: FOCUS ON SPRING! Let your eyes reflect the light, clear and bright colors found in nature this season.  Browned pinks and peaches are the newest earthtones. Grassy greens, bright blues, pinks, peaches, lilac and ivory are this season's latest colors. Pastels are back - big time, but with a twist--the newest are not baby-soft, they're all grown up: sophisticated, icy, nearly white, with loads of shimmer.

Bonne Bell's Eye Style Shadow Box $3.95 packs four of the season's hottest shades into a clear compact with two sponge applicators. There are four combos but the hands-down favorite is "Urban Camouflage" that pairs a chic copper metallic with shimmery shades of moss green, khaki, and beige. We also liked "Hip Hop Charcoals" that pairs a deep, glitter-infused charcoal liner with slightly metallic taupe, silver, and pearly ivory that work so beautifully together they are nearly mistake-proof!  These are very soft and blendable so it's easy to play around with them.  Try one, or layer a few, or  mix and match for lots of different looks.   Add a deep, dramatic line with Eye Style Precise Liner $2.95, a soft, no-sharpen pencil that goes on smoothly and doesn't run. Choose black, brown, or grey. Finally, for just a few dollars more, complete your new eye look with a new mascara   such as Eye Style Mascara $3.50 in black, black-brown or clear. We love the way it lasts, but washes off easily!  Thanks Bonne Bell, for making it so easy to update and indulge without breaking even the tightest budget!

A cheerful, shiny, silvery compact hold Tony & Tina's Color Frequency Eye Shadow Quad $32.00 (photo) has Roman Chamomile to prevent puffy, tired eyes, along with good-for-your-skin Vitamins A, C and E. Use these wet as a liner or use them dry for a softer, layerable look. For Spring, try "Dream Energy" with it's dramatic matte black shadow, satiny gunmetal grey, and  two shades of pink -- one icy pale, one medium. These colors will put you right in step with Spring's pastel trends. For something fun, try Dual Frequency Eye Color $28.00 a in "Celestial Vision."  We love these blendable shades for lids and liner in deep green, lilac, blue and plum . They go from lightly opaque, to dramatically dark. The secret is an innovative gel formula that glides on like a powder and stays long-lasting and crease-free. TIP:  A dual-ended applicator is angled perfectly to apply long-lasting colored liner that is nearly mistake-proof.  If you do wobble the line, simply smudge onto lids for a soft, smoky shadow!

mac meadowland.jpg (2189 bytes)Last Column we had a sneak peek of the Eye Shadow $13.00 in the new Madame B collection by M·A·C.  We've got a few more to suggest for Spring to brighten your eyes and your outlook. "Meadowland" (photo) is a green lover's dream - a green with a hint of blue and a touch of pearl. We liked the green paired with a highlight of "Pollen," a stunning, slightly yellowed white with a subtle, golden shimmer. TIP: a softened white makes a great Spring shadow on it's own, especially paired with a colored liner and mascara such as Fibre Rich Mascara $9.50 in "Botanical," an eye catching, jewel-toned bright teal. Just Gorgeous!

Bourjois had two dozen shades of Eye Shadow $13.50 to choose from, but now there are a dozen more! Even better, the jewel-toned powders can now be used wet as well as dry which gives you double the options to mix and match!   Applied dry, they offer a light layer of color. Applied wet, the pearl effects and intensity of color are enhanced--perfect as colored liner--all the rage this season. Colors range from subtle to intense, traditional to cutting edge. All are truly beautiful and the reason Bourjois is the choice of fashionistas,e everywhere.   Standouts from the newest colors include "Turquoise Ensoleille," an intense,  iridescent pearl turquoise that brightens lids and makes a stunningly-beautiful liner.  For evening, try it with "Feau D'Artifice," a super-shimmery lilac, on lids. "Bois De Rose" is a medium-toned,   browned-rose-pearl that is a flattering, modern take on basic brown. Wear it is a liner with peachy "Orange Subtil" on lids!  TIP: always use one side of the cake for dry, the other, for wet.

"Jouer" means "to play" in French. That's how we describe the Cream Eye Shadows $18.00 by Jouer, new to our review this column. The cream to powder shadow slides on so smoothly you can't make a mistake, and it stays true to color. The compacts are clever, too. You can use a fingertip and apply just a little, or use a brush and make a dramatic, smoky eye.  Four easy on the eyes (pun intended) pearly new shades include "Feather," a soft beige, "Chiffon," a light ivory pearl,  "Cashmere," a metallic bronze,   and "Suede," a intense but soft, brown.

Perhaps you're still wearing bulky jackets outside, but, thanks to Juicy Cosmetics, you can wear a stunning, matte peach  Eye Shadow $9.50 called "Skimpy" on your lids!  This perfect Spring shade can be used dry for subtle color on lids or brow-bone, or wet, for a more intense look I like the look with a Colored , blendable Liner Pencil $9.50 such as metallic green "Khaki."

Budget minded fashionistas will want to get the latest version of the Sonia Kashuk Eye Shadow Palette $12.99.  "Sweet Nothings" features six pearly neutrals including a matte, stark white and soft taupe, along with a larger pan of eye shadow base. A dual-sponge tip applicator and interior strip mirror make this one a great choice to update your eye wardrobe for Spring. Eye Shadow Duos $7.99 are brightly colored with just a hint of shimmer. Our favorite is "Secret Admirer," a flattering, light lilac and deep plum combo. TIP: These are very blendable. Mix a deep with a light color and you have your own, signature color!  Finish the look with an Eye Definer Pencil $5.99 "Purple Passion" (dark purple) would work perfectly with the "Secret Admirer." We also like 'Olive Suede," a dark khaki that works will all neutrals. These are soft and blendable enough to do double-duty as an eye shadow, too.

By Terry is debuting in this column. Makeup artist Terry de Gunzburg worked in France for 15 years as International Creative Director for Yves Saint Laurent before creating her own line of "haute Coleur."  Her products exemplify high-end cosmetics for women who really care about quality and color. They have an unmistakable, designer vibe.  Silky Eye Shadow $32.00 in 17 colors, comes in a simple, shiny silver pot with clear window in the cover. I tried   "Orchid Bud," a pretty shade of creamy, long lasting lilac that goes on like satin and makes eyes instantly look better, brighter! I am very excited about this brand and look forward to bringing you more review of the products in future columns.

victoriassecret eye trio.JPG (409004 bytes) I am such a fan of Victoria's Secret Beauty.   The colors are always fashionable and wearable and the prices, modest enough to have some left in even a meager budget for some sexy, V. Secret lingerie! Start your spring with a mosaic of color options. The Seductive Eyes Mosaic Eye Shadow $16.50 gives you four coordinated shades of shadow in both matte and shimmer that you can wear separately, or mix together for your own, artful, combos. These soft shadows are long lasting and stay true to color, but they're sheer enough to look casual to dressy no matter which ones you choose. There are six sexy palettes. Warm complexions will glow with earthtoned "Mosaic Petal" combining yellowed tones of peach, rust, taupe and brown. A more shimmery (but not too much for daytime) version of the palette is "Mosaic Storm." I loved the intense, shimmery brown flecked with gold (great eye liner) and the stunning, cool gold! These are so gorgeous-get them all and turn heads!

Scott Barnes has beautiful, chic makeup, grateful celebrity clients, and he's gorgeous, too (what more could you want)? If you want to follow the green and blue theme so popular this season, try Ilumineye Shadow $20.00 in "Mermaid," an intense, opaque, turquoise that looks pretty, not garish. The color is silky, easy to apply, stays true and long lasting, and comes in a luxe, matte bronze and silver square compact that makes you feel like  star, even if you're just going to the supermarket. TIP: If you're shy about trying intense color after seasons of nearly-there shimmers, line your eyes with it, or apply it over another color in a wider band close to the lid line.  A great choice is the new, Eye Ice $22.00.  It's a layerable, blendable, super-shimmery loose powder in an icy-clear glass cube with shiny silver top. Six shimmering shades catch the light and give your eyes shimmery, not gaudy, sparkle.  We tried "Lamé," a pearly white sheer with fairly subtle gold shimmer that can be used as a highlighter and on cheeks (use a large brush to diffuse the color). They look great solo or blended together, or over another shadow such as   "Mermaid." See?  It's easy!

The first thing you notice about American Beauty (debuting for the first time in this column) is the clean, simple packaging. Simple white and silver packaging looks fresh and modern. The makeup inside is also modern, but with a classic wearability, A good example is the limited edition Luxury for Lids Eye Shadow Duo $14.50 in "Shimmering Sands" which pairs a slightly shimmery rust with a slightly more shimmery bronze. Used solo they are quite bright and cutting edge, but mixed, they soften into a more traditional  brown hue.  "Desert Sparkle" pairs an intense turquoise with a lemon yellow. These colors are not for the shy, but they're still user-friendly and wearable. For a finishing touch, try the super-soft Ultra-Easy Automatic Eye Liner $11.00 in non-traditional colors like "Ink" (Deep purple) and "Auburn" (bronze).  TIP: if you're planning a dramatic eye look, best to downplay cheeks and lips or you'll risk looking gaudy.

AVEDA is known for it's aromatherapy products and natural ingredients. Their new Petal Essence makeup collection blends flower waxes, oils, and other pure plant ingredients to create a lightweight cosmetics line with a velvety finish reminiscent of flower petals! I loved Petal Essence™ Duo Eye Color $15.00 in  "#986 "Gobi/Sand." This pairs a fashion-forward matte camel with a matte medium brown which can be used as a lid, liner, or crease color. "992" Seet grass/Fieldstone" pairs slightly shimmery medium charcoal with a shimmery, golden-glitzed green. Both colors are sheer enough to layer for daytime wear, apply more generously for evening.  Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color $11.00 comes in 18 individual colors. Finish your new look with an Eye Definer $12.00. These soft, blendable liners make a precise line, but don't tug at your sensitive eye area. An environmentally conscious touch is the sustainably grown cedar wood from sustainably managed forests these pencils are created with. " "916 Moss" is a deep, soft green that gives a modern touch as a lid liner, or doubles as a shadow

FLIRT Cosmetics is new to our reviews. This young-at-heart line is modestly priced, but still cutting edge. We love the Dreamy Eyes $10.00 push out/pull up matte black compacts (although it took a few of the more mature reviewers a bit longer to figure out the opening). Inside, buildable, long lasting eye color comes in sheers, shimmers and matte in more than 36 warm and cool colors. We suggest the subtle but shimmery "Solid Gold" or to suit the current green theme, the yellow-green "Limoncello."Finish the look with Look of Love Eye Pencil $9.00 in a Spring bright such as "Bluephoria," a turquoise-colored eye liner pencil!

Impressionist paintings are the inspiration for Shu Uemura's newest Pressed Eye Shadows $18.00. Soft, cheerful, clear, medium-bright limited edition colors of blue, beige, yellow and green apply so easily you'll wonder how you got so good, so fast.  Clear plastic squares make it easy to see what color you're reaching for. "Blue #645," "Beige #808," and Green #610" are pearly with shimmer, mirroring the "icy pastel" trend, but they still offer plenty of color. We like the soft matte "Yellow #321" as both a lid color and a highlighter.  Of course, they're true to color and long lasting. Every woman deserves some Shu Uemura!

Anastasia Beverly Hills is considered by some to be the one who brought professional eyebrow shaping into popularity. Her celebrity following visits her in her Beverly Hills Salon, but you can take advantage of her brow-benefiting products at home. The key to a clean, well-shaped brow is good tweezers. Anastasia Tweezers $28.00 come in a pink packet, and they are coated pink, but they're not "girly" implements by any means- they're made of the highest quality of steel, with a custom-slated tip that lets you remove even fine hairs like a pro. Once you've shaped your brows, you'll want to fill in any sparse spots and enhance the shape with the specialty Perfect Brow Pencils $21.00 that come in five, soft, believable brown and blonde colors to suit your complexion and hair color. One side has a soft, blendable pencil, the other, a brush to blend the color in a natural way!  For those who prefer powder, the Brow Powder Duo $25.00 comes in a pretty little embossed pewter compact in five color combos. The luxe p owder is also enriched with antioxidants vitamins and emollients, to make your brows better than ever.

A cute kit is always a great gift for a makeup lover, and a really nice one for eyes is the Eye Beauty Kit $28.00 by Pixi. A lilac-colored slimline compact no bigger than a credit card holds everything you need to color, line and contour eyes but even better, there is an eyelid base (to neutralize lid color and prepared lids for longer lasting color) along with a cover up to brighten and cover dark shadows.  You also get a nice, dual-sided eye shadow brush with a shadow/natural hair tip and a nylon/liner on the other.  The sheer shadows can be mixed matched, blended-whatever you fancy! I tried "Muse" a set of modern green tones with two shimmery bronzes and two very exciting, glittery shadows in celery and in gold. Also right for now are "Magic" (browns and bronzes with gold) and "Mirage" (pinks and nudes with gold).  Even non-makeup lovers will enjoy "playing" with these-they're fun and they're great makeup.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, you may want to switch to a waterproof mascara to keep it from running in the heat. SNEAK PEEK! Starting this summer, Max Factor Lash Lift Waterproof Mascara $6.50 will be your new, best friend from bedroom to the beach! We've tried it and we like it! The lightweight formula doesn't feel heavy or cake-y on lids. The brush is designed to contact your lashes right at their base and lift them up. The result is beautifully colored lashes that frame your eye and open them up a bit more. This one comes in "Rich Black" or "Black Brown." We are hoping for even more colors!

Looking a bit like a mini, lucite diamond-topped space ship, Urban Decay Precious Metals Eye Sheens $18.00 have landed to take eye glam up a definite notch! Super-light, long-lasting, super-sheer cream-to-powder shadows smooth on effortlessly, letting to layer a little or a lot, and leaving a glistening wash of light color that looks so  different and modern that you could say they shine like crystal dust.  There are four: "Big Ticket" is a soft lilac, "Loaded" is an amazing light green, "Platinum" looks like solid silver, and "Trust Fund" is a shimmery sapphire blue. They manage to look dazzling, but not garish or gaudy--and really, really pretty.

Sue Devitt has a Spring collection inspired by the exotic lands called "enticed by India." Electric Sheen Eye Shadow $18.00 in round, silvery cases with mirrors come in warm but sheer colors such as "Pali," a shimmery tangerine and "Madurai," a shimmery, yellow gold.  These colors look fresh, and new, but not weird or over-the-top. We also like the easy to apply, easy to tote, Eye Intensifier Pencil $22.00. The creamy pencil slides on smoothly and stays where you put it. There's a handy sponge smudger on the end of the pencil to create a smoky eye. Three new shades include: "Bangalore," a deep khaki "Kanpur," a bright, metallic copper, and "Surat," a soft, pearly mocha."

Slim is always in style. Physician Formula MicroKohl Eye Definer $6.95 is an ultra-slim, automatic pencil that delivers a thin line of intense color in three shades of black and does it so easily you might think you're dreaming!  If you "wobble" a bit or want a smoky eye, there's a handy smudger tip on the other end. Clever, and inexpensive!

Why wear a ho-hum powder shadow when you can try something chic and new this Spring? FACE Stockholm Matte Eye Shadow $16.00 arrives in generously-sized round compacts with clear lids (so you can see the color you need). Some unusual new colors for Spring are  "Sophisticated," a light, matte taupe, Power," a soft light, greyed-green, and "Baby Pink," a stark nearly white pink. All look modern on lids or as a highlighter. Take the plunge and try a bold color like "Christo" a bright, nearly neon, matte orange. Only the young and fearless will probably feel comfortable wearing this as a daytime lid shadow, but it works as an accent, and makes a refreshing, hip statement as a powder liner that will turn heads, but not start a revolution!

Rimmel London Extra Super Lash Waterproof Mascara $6.00 is so new we didn't even have product information at press time, but we think it's worth a mention.  For starters, we like the way you can layer it for a hint of natural color, or a full-out "faux" fan of lashes. The new, waterproof formula means no smudging or fading. The cost allows you to replace it every six months, which is a good thing since mascaras tend to collect bacteria that can cause eye infections. For a budget mascara it does the job nicely--at a nice price.

We love doubles and we really liked the Sally Hansen Pencil & Mascara Duo $4.99.  A slim, portable dual-ended wand has a Maximum Growth Mascara at one end, and an eye pencil on the other. Even though the mascara brush isn't huge, we got long, lush lashes, instantly from this mascara, fortified with protein complex and silk and the pencil went on long lasting, soft, and smooth. We liked the subtle "Care Free Khaki" and the deep navy "Beautiful Blue," but there's also black and brown. Inexpensive and good performers -- you'll want at least one in your makeup bag at all times.

Avon True Color Eye Shadow Duo $5.00 has a unique, "self liquefying" technology that reacts to your own body chemistry to create customized color!  There are three new duos for Spring: "Minty Floral" "Peony Duo" and "Seashell. Reviewers loved "Minty Floral" a set of subtle, yellowed greens that work perfectly with Spring fashions--and -- they're really fun to use!  TIP:These shadows look lighter in the compact that they will on your skin. They will react to your unique body chemistry to create a personalized color.  To get just the intensity you want, experiment first. Start with a thin layer, and add more as you wish.

Lancôme Color Focus Palette 4 Ombres $27.00 starts with an eye-catching black compact printed with large overlapping circles of green, blue, purple, light blue and yellow.  Inside, three mini sponge tip applicators are ready to apply the circles of shadow in colors that reflect those on the outside. The left side holds two light, matte colors: a clear, bright yellow and soft nearly white, light blue. The right hasnd side holds a slightly shimmery deep plum, and a stunning, shimmery medium green. These high quality shadows are quite versatile. Mix and match or blend them together, use them dry or wet for more intensity. The shades are modern and sophisticated, but also very wearable. Wet, these makes fantastic color liners! If you prefer pencils try Le Crayon Kohl $19.50. Hard milled, long lasting pencils make lining your eyes a snap. "Le Blue de Jules" is a light pastel blue. "Le Blue de Jim" is a bright, medium blue. This compact is a sure-fire Spring winner!

The new, Opalline Dream $8.50 collection by MARK offers up the season's icy sheer pastels to keep you in fashion.  Large squares of silky, pearly, slightly opalescent eye shadow in pink, ivory, green and one matte white,   look pretty, feminine and modern for Spring. Application is smooth and long lasting, too! We wish there was a mirror, but then this compact might not be that lightweight, after all!

The moment you see the bright pink and gold box from Jilda Beverly Hills (new to our review) you'll sense there's something special, inside--and there is!  Inside a substantial, beveled, clear lucite compact with pink metallic inlay on top and a large interior mirror you'll find quality products of the highest order from Jet-setter former model Jilda Trolio Shernoff such as Silky Duos Eye Shadow $22.00.   These are not for the shy gal. The shadows are deep, rich, silky, intense and long lasting.   We tried "Khaki. China Gold." The sexy, deep khaki blended into a new take on the smoky eye but we liked it best as a shadow liner. The gold was amazing- bright and shimmery, with obvious gold flecks that are meant to be seen.

N.Y.C. New York Color Eye Shimmers $1.99 let you indulge your taste for "eye bling" without going broke. Shimmery shades of super-frosty loose powder arrive in a clear, plastic jar (so you can see the color). Dip the included brush applicator into the jar and swipe on a seriously shimmery wash of color. You can blend these if you wish to tone down the brilliance for daytime, but they're so much fun for a date or special event. We particularly like "Champagne," a shimmery neutral, and "!4 Karat Rose," a warm pink. Swipe some "Opal Sparkle" is a white pearl that makes a dramatic statement on lids (use a colored liner, too) or as a highlighter.

The Dr. in "in." In style, that is!  Dr. Hauschka's Eye Shadow $16.00  all-natural, good-for-your-skin ingredients as well as subtle, chic color. "Novum Solo 02" is a soft brown/beige pearl that actually makes ruddy eyelids smooth and pretty. Highlight with "Novum Solo 01," a soft yellowed ivory with a hint of pearl (wear this as a lid shadow, too)

The Cooling Stick $12.00 by Sephora is an undereye wonder--a concealer and undereye primer all in one.  There are two neutral shades of beige and a green that banishes redness. We watched a reviewer apply Vert" (green) and saw the the irritated area under her eyes instantly brighten. There's also a slight, refreshing "cooling" sensation as the cream to powder concealer smoothly on easily, dries quickly, and stays put! This is a great concealer you'll reach for again and again.

Easy to tote, long-lasting, cream-to-powder Prescriptives Moonbean Reflective EyeColor $16.00 comes in wanded tube that makes it easy and quick to apply this pretty and sophisticated lid color. The colors are subtle, flattering to all skintones and appropriate day or evening. We like "Zodiac Beige," and Skylight Pink" are sheer, shimmery pastels that leave just a hint of color on lids or as a highlight. "Sky Blue" is a medium blue with just a touch of yellow and lots of shimmer.   All dress up lids in a flash. SNEAK PEEK! We are already great fans of Prescriptives Mascara. Now there's Beyond Long Maximum Length Mascara $19.00 which will be available in June. The long, sleek, shiny, silvery wand hints that your lashes will be long and chic, too. You won't be disappointed. This one colors without clumping, fills in bare spots, and generally makes your lashes look lush and sexy!

FOCUS ON BODIES - There's nothing better than starting (or ending) the day with fun to use, beneficial bath & body products. They're not only good for your skin, they make moisturizing, cleansing, and exfoliating, fun! Here are some of the newest and best:

LUSH Smitten.jpg (661514 bytes)Now that the days are longer and lighter, perhaps your hand cream should lighten up, too.  Smitten Hand Cream $13.95 by LUSH (photo) fits the bill, perfectly.  Open the signature, black tub and find a light (and lightly scented) but emollient cream that is made with natural ingredients such as almond oil, wheat germ and avocado, cocoa and coconut butters. It absorbs quickly and moisturizes 1-2-3-done! LUSH also has two new Bath Bombs that are as fun to look at as to enjoy in the tub. Youki $5.45 is a peach-colored ball festively topped with red and gold glitter.   It's sweet and exotic (the same scent as LUSH Flying Fox Shower Gel) blending jasmine flower with exotic ylang ylang, cypress oil and gardenia. A less sweet bath treat is Bollywood Bath Bomb $5.25, a bright orange sphere infused with orange oil to uplift your senses, and a touch of black pepper to detox and energize. Ours had a fanciful blue "bindi" on the top to remind us that Bollywood can be in a little bathtub as well as on the big screen.

Editors Note: Cellulite-related products such as the ones reviewed below normally take 6-8 weeks (or more) of regular use to yield results. Our comments are based on actual use, but not based on these lengthy testing periods.

Skin Therapies is new to our column. It has two  products, one of which, Cellu-Ice $79.00 4.2 oz might appeal to you--especially if you have cellulite!  Fizzy mousse comes out of a can tingly and icy. It's fun to use, but it's also a serious combo of cutting edge technologies that go directly, quickly and with time-release to target the problem areas on thighs, tummy, and bottom.  We won't go into all the chemistry, but it doesn't just mask the problem by swelling the top layer of your skin. That may make you look smoother temporarily. Instead, it theoretically gets to the root of what causes cellulite, while it also moisturizes. With time, your dimpled skin really gets smoother. Cellulite is one of the hardest things to get rid of on the face of the Earth or well, at least, your skin.  If it works for you, it's a small price to pay.

DerMed is another, respected company helping you to beat the battle of cellulite with their CelluliteRX Tri-Plex System $150.00. Although we received lots of technical information about these products, the key points you need to know is that cellulite effects nearly 80% of women and it won't go away with wishes, dieting or alternative "cures." This set of three products uses advanced, clinically active, time-released cellulite treatments. The first targets your outer skin (the epidermis) to exfoliate surface skin cells  and promote smoother, healthier skin (LipoSmooth Body Polish). Step two targets the subcutaneous fat layer of your skin (hypodermis) using  LipTherm Contour Cream containing QuSome (liposome delivery system), to eliminate toxin and inflammation, and increase circulation. Note the warm "flush" on your skin which tells you it's doing it's job! finally, the third step is a LipoLift Firming Cream which promote collagen production to strengthen and tighten your skin. *note: these products use a low dose of natural progesterone (10-15 mgs) which is generally considered safe. However, the manufacturer suggests discontinuing the product during your menstrual cycle and urges you to consult your physician if you are taking HRT (hormone replacement therapy) drugs.

There's nothing dull or routine about moisturizing hands when you apply Smoothies 2 fl. oz $2.00 (larger size $9.95) by Jessica. This moisturizing lotion absorbs lightening-fast, and leaves skin instantly feeling silky and soft with   Shea Butter, Soothing Aloe, antioxidant Vitamin E and rejuvenating Soy.  However, it's the quick, intense burst of scent that will make you want to apply it all the time. We loved invigorating "Grapefruit" that genuinely smells like you've just cut one open. There's also a yummy tangerine-melon, soothing cucumber lime, and prairie flower,  suzu-ran and milkshake!

We first introduced you to Collective Wellbeing last column. It's a new company that lets consumers "vote"  on it's web site for a slate of non profits that will receive a part of the profits from sales. The products are beautifully scented, effective, and moderately priced. Case in point is the Detox Soap $5.00 5 oz. It's a bar of black soap with a slightly lemony scent that contains hundreds of thousands of micro-sponges created from activated charcoal that trap and whisk away environmental toxins and impurities. You'll get a spa-like feeling from using this, and do your body some good, too. The Body Wash with Lavender and Aloe $8.00 11.05 oz is another spa-type treat you can afford to indulge in every day. Avocado oil , aloe vera, and a complex of vitamins A, C and E nourish your skin while a nearly clear, light gel moisturizes and scents your skin with a heady dose of fragrant lavender that makes you want to linger in the shower or bath.

BATH & BODY (continued from the Left Hand column)

Shea is the name of the day--and it's a good thing because winter weary skin needs the extra oomph of a serious smoother. New to our review this column is JK Soul Salts. The products are handmade to order without chemical preservatives. Notable are the authentic essential oils such as "Sweet Grapefruit" and "Orange Blossom" that are simply divine, and make the moisturizing a pleasure instead of a chore. Whipped Body Butter $29.00 blends essential oils with shea and cocoa butter,  vitamin E, rosemary extract and apricot kernel oil to soothe and soften skin. When your skin is cracked, flaky and/or itchy, a lightweight moisturizer won't do. Reach a the thick, rich, "butter" like this one for real relief.  We also liked the Cocoa Butter Massage Bar $26.00- a hard-milled bar of solid cocoa butter has a bonus -- raised massaging "nubs" on one side that relax as you soften and smooth your skin. The scent of lavender in our bar put reviewers in 7th heaven!

CoseFini is new to our review this column. Their Natural Apothecary Hand & Body Cream $14.00 4 oz is a rich cream and a natural blend of good-for-your-skin ingredients to sooth and soften, while lightly scenting your skin with essential oils. We tried "Lemongrass," a slightly spicy lemony scent that relieves stress and that you can easily share with your special man. The cute "apothecary inspired" graphics and label make it decorative in your bathroom or guest room, too.  You might also want to consider buying the nice CosiFini Oatmeal Body Wash with Shea Butter $14.00 8 oz which also has aloe vera and vitamins C&E for extra softening. Our skin felt clean but not overly tight or dry, a boon in the transition from Winter to Spring.  We hope to review more of this line in the future.

jaqua fleur magique.jpg (6564 bytes)We love Jaqua not only for it's yummy, scented, products, but also for the always adorable packaging with nearly the most feminine graphics on the planet. The Fleur Magique Bath Kit $49.50 (photo) is no exception. The origami-style box with satin rope handle depicts a  pretty rose garden/flower shop.   Inside are three tea rose-scented products:  an 8oz bottle of rose colored, rose & bergamot scented bath and shower nectar, a 4 oz jar of rose in bloom body beauty butter (a thick, moisturizing paste sinfully scented with roses) and a 50ml bottle of Rose Bouquet Hydrating Facial Mist to spritz anytime you need a lift. TIP:   Take the facial mist on trips to keep your skin hydrated and smelling lovely. It's also lovely lightly sprayed on tissues or a scarf-to ward off scents you'd rather not deal with! This makes a great mother's day gift, too.

Caress is new to our review this column, but I think it's just the beginning of a new love affair! Their new Glowing Touch Moisturizing Body Wash $3.99 12 fl oz, $4.99 18 fl. oz is just the type of affordable, multi-use product I adore! The shimmery, lemony-yellow product is a body wash with shea cream (and "skin brighteners") that effectively moisturize as it cleanses. It's so effective as an in-shower cleanser/moisturizer combo that you can skip an apres bath moisturizer altogether. The information I got says the product is scented with notes of coconut, peach and apple, but actually, it smelled like orange to me. For a final yahoo! This product triples as a standout shave gel!  Bottom line: my skin felt clean and super-soft with no greasy residue. If you want to de-clutter your bathroom and have a 3-in-one product instead, this could become your favorite choice!

If you're budget minded, you probably already know about Suave products, new to our review. We're not quite sure what blossoms of cotton actually smell like, but Suave Naturals Moisturizing Body Wash $2.49 12 fl, oz in "Cotton Bloom" scent reminds us pleasantly of freshly cleaned linens.  A rich lather is a plus, along with aloe vera and vitamin E to help moisturize skin.  Brand new is the Suave Skin Conditioner In-Shower Body Lotion $2.49 8.4 fl. oz is a rich, lightly scented cream that you smooth on, rinse off, thereby eliminating your after-bath moisturizer step. We like the flat topped plastic bottle that lets it stand securely It works well, and costs pennies per wash. If you're the type that likes to moisturize constantly, the generously sized pump bottle of Skin Therapy Sensitive Skin Lotion $2.79 18 fl. oz is for you! A non-scented, hypoallergenic lotion without dyes or lanolin offers lightweight moisture for sensitive skin. It absorbs easily and fast,   so you can indulge your urge to moisturize often and quickly!

We first reviewed Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien fragrance in our  Fall, 2004 and raved over this sophisticated, citrussy, unisex blend  (lemon, grapefruit, and cypress) that has made us (not to mention celebs like Oprah, Madonna, and Sharon Stone) loyal fans. Now you can enjoy this lovely fragrance while you revitalize your dry and sun-parched skin with Eau d'Hadrien Dry Body Oil  $45.00 4.2 oz The key ingredients are avocado oil and Vitamin A (to nourish and stimulate cell renewal), macadamia nut oil (to moisturize and protect your skin's outer layer); and Ceteryl Ethylhexanoate (a long name for something that, very effectively, keeps your skin smooth without oily residue)!  The clear plastic bottle makes this easy to tote for travel or beach. After bathing while skin is still damp is the time to apply this dry oil. It will leave a light scent of Eau d"Hadrien on your skin for a light alternative to fragrance, layer it with your scent to enhance it just a bit more.

Winter may be over, but dry skin is still a formidable foe! Smooth yours with something that not only feels good, but smells great--Indulge Beauty's Bistro Body Butter $20.00 in "Mango Colada" has shea butter in a unique, light, whipped texture that feels cool and refreshing. The scent is sinfully fun -- rich and fruity.  Reviewers said using this made them feel as though they'd escaped to a tropical isle for a bit of rest and relaxation--and liked the fact that their skin felt softer and smoother, too.

Baudelaire Jardin D'Olivier products are made from extra virgin olive oil which not only tastes good in cooking, but also works amazing well as it softens, moisturizes, nourishes and heals. If your hands are dry, dull, itchy and chapped, Jardin D'Olivier Hand Cream With Olive Oil $12.50 2 oz also has Vitamin A to help heal and regenerate chapped and callused hands - which it does--but with the added bonus of lavender, artemisia, and lemon are accented with herbally notes of tarragon and oak moss--mmmm! Provence Santé, also from Baudelaire, has two hand creams that are also beautifully scented and work extremely well. The Hand Cream $13.00 5.1 fl. oz uses sweet almond oil mixed with various fragrances to make softening and soothing your hands a spa experience. We tried "Vetiver," an astonishing, cedar-like aroma distilled from the roots of an Indian plant. There's also a travel size hand cream $5.00 1.7 fl oz  that I tried in "Vervain," a pleasing, sweet, citrussy scent.  There are other  fragrances took such as lavender, linden, and apricot, and bergamot that will appeal to men as well as women. Pop one into your briefcase,   tote bag, office desk, etc.

pink grapefruit davies gate.jpg (23910 bytes)Who wouldn't feel uplifted by the Davies Gate collection of refreshing and tart scent of the Pink Grapefruit Collection? The generously-added fragrance has a base of pink grapefruit tempered with vanilla and tangelo which is tantalizing, energizing, and unisex. The Soothing Shower Gel $16.00 8.4 fl. oz contains glycerin and aloe vera to hydrate skin and leave it soft (which it does). We also liked the Warm Milk & Sugar Body Scrub $18.00 8.5 fl. oz. Sugar, milk and botanicals combine with pink grapefruit scent to make exfoliation a more than pleasant experience! Treat Mom (our yourself) to a sinfully fun bath with Powder Sugar Bath Soak $31.00 18 oz that has vitamins and minerals to nourish soften and condition dry skin while you enjoy that tart, pink grapefruit scent.  SNEAK PEEK: The Moisture Rich Body Lotion $18.00 (photo) will be available mid-April. It's a wonderfully effective, fast absorbing lotion with a generous dollop of fragrance that everyone in the family will crave!

St. Ives is known for inexpensive bath, body and facial products, but we never realized just how effective they are!  New to our column, St. Ives Apricot Radiance Facial Cleansers $3.99 6.5 fl. oz impressed us with their effective cleaning abilities. Apricot radiance comes in four different formulas:  Oily, combo, dry and age-defying. We tried the Combination skin cleanser and the Normal to Dry formula. Both smelled pleasantly like apricot and both felt silky and rich on our skin. Both whisked away dirt and makeup with "microbead" derived from jojoba to gently exfoliate. Both left our skin feeling soft and smooth, although the normal to dry felt extra-moisturizing without oiliness. Likewise, the St. Ives Fresh H2O Moisturizing Body Wash $3.19 13.5 oz cleansed quite nicely with a light, fresh scent, Swiss botanicals, and "aqua capsules" that contain pure spring water and leave skin soft as well as clean.

BODY BLING!  Spring is a time to start shedding your outerwear and start showing your skin. Why not flaunt it with a touch of glamour?

When the sun shines, many of the glitter and high-shimmer products that give you a lift in the Fall and Winter, seem garish.  But there are times when a touch of glitter, nestled onto a shoulder, cleavage, or touched to lips, cheeks and eyes, is just the highlight you need to pull off a sexy or evening look.  Icing Sugar Glimmer $18.00 by Juicy Cosmetics in "Ice" is a sheer champagne nude in a shaker-jar that gives your face and body a bit of sparkle and shimmer without too much intensity.   TIP: Feeling daring? Dust a bit on your skin (after applying sunscreen) for a sexy, shimmery casual look that will turn heads, or mix a bit in a clear lip gloss-instant glam!

How could you feel anything but glam when you are using Virgin Vie's Passion for Color Wild at Heart Shimmer Powder £14.50 (approx $37.50 US dollars). The hot pink plastic compact with square pink jewel in the center, and inside there's a rose-colored shimmer powder embedded with peach and green hearts?

benefit jewels eye.jpg (8966 bytes) BeneFit Jewels gives new meaning to the term "body bling."  These are neutral, liquid creams that once shaken (not stirred) produce high-wattage glimmer (without glitter) for a new type of glam that looks great day or evening. Reviewers loved the round, nail polish style bottles that make it is to shake, brush on, blend, line, and layer.  Eye Jewel $18.00 in "Gimme an Outside Vine"is a rosed beige that glams lids in a second. TIP: for a new take on liner, use a thin-line brush and line your top and bottom lids -- you'll brighten your eyes and look divine!

Cellex-C is a Pioneer in Vitamin C skin care technology and known for high-end, high-quality, high-performance products. Give your body the pampering it deserves. Treat yourself to   self-tanner Cellex-C Bio Tan $110.00 240 ml is your choice. This glistening peach-colored, oil-free gel has a unique, proprietary process that creates a golden color simulating a genuinely sun-tanned complexion. Then, give you skin a sexy, flattering sheen with smoothing, toning benefits apply a thin layer of with Cellex-C Body Sheen & Toning Gel 140 ml $110.00 to your shoulders, arms, legs and feet (if you wish you can safely use it on your upper and lower back, chest and breasts). TIP: smooth, exfoliated skin is essential to achieve a good self-tanning result.  Try Cellex-C Speed Peel & Polish Gel $100.00 240 ml provides instant peeling of dull, dry surface skin cells. We love the way you simply apply, let dry for a few minutes, and then literally rub the dry skin off with the dried gel, leaving nothing but healthy-looking, radiant skin!  Pricey, perhaps, but aren't you worth it?

Sephora Sparkling Powder in a Brush $18.00 is one of those products that seems so simple,  but when you try it you're surprised at how much you love it.  A lightweight, shimmering loose powder is tote-able in it's own clear tube with powder brush top. The powder looks bronze in it's tube. I thought it might actually be a deep bronzer, but it's so sheer that when used on different skintones it just added a hint of sparkle and touch of tan" to everyone's skin.  It's a great choice of a sparkle powder. You'll enjoy it this season, and every season!

LIPS - FOCUS ON FEATURES -  For those who never really liked deep reds and plums, you'll be happy to know that with Spring we're seeing the return of light, girly pinks and super-shiny glosses. These plump up lips, smooth lines, and generally do good while they make you look great.

Tony & Tina Herbal Aroma LipGloss $16.00 has been a favorite of our for years. For Spring, 2005, they've come out with a limited edition color called "Goddess of Spring" that will bring out the inner Goddess in you.  More importantly, it contains all sorts of moisturizers to help winter-weary lips renew themselves! One side of the box has a Spring scene of pretty wildflowers lowers and green grass. Inside, you'll find a slightly herbally-scented, sheer, light, girly pink gloss with just a hint of gold shimmer. Slick on one layer for  "au natural" or use several layers for more intensity, or on top of your favorite lipstick to enhance it's character.   Rejoice!

Derma mini Palette Kit.JPG (16568 bytes)Alcone is a leading manufacturer and distributor of professional beauty products, located in New York City. Founders (and sisters-in-law) Michele and Alexandra Gray are now making some of their daunting inventory of professional beauty products available to consumers by bundling the most popular "must-haves" into kits. You can buy one kit, or join the Alcone Beauty Club and receive on each month. Most of the kits are priced around $30-$35.00.  One kit I liked was the Alcone Derma Mini Palette Kit $35.90 (photo) that bundles 16 generously-sized buttons of concealer in varying shades, tones, and intensities that along with a professional camouflage brush. Use one, or mix a combo to cover tattoos, age spots, varicose veins, or other blemishes. With this many colors, getting the perfect match is assured.  The Alcone Brush Kit $33.50 has five sable brushes with lightweight, matte silvery handles for eye, lips and cheeks. That's less than $7.00 per brush not--not bad! and that doesn't even take into account the 2 oz jar of brush cleaner you get, too. The types of kits and the individual prices and products vary, but you like the idea of getting makeup treats in your mail every month, or if you'd like to treat Mom or a fashionista friend to a unique gift, membership is just $24.95 per month regardless of individual kit costs, plus $4.95  shipping and handling and and tax (New York residents only).

++aura_lip_048.jpg (404596 bytes) Give your lips a true transformation! Reflect Double Shine for Crystal Lips $15.00 by Aura Science is one of the shiniest, wet-look lip glosses on the market and even the bottle lets you know it's different. The chubby, capsule-shaped bottle has a thin, plastic spatula applicator instead of the usual brush or sponge and when you look at the bottle, you can see a clear and colored layer. Remove the spatula applicator and the layers magically combine to give you sheer color and amazing, wet long shine. The formula may be wet look but it's silky and lightweight, not at all sticky. We love the way this one slicks over even the most dry, chapped lips to make them look poutier and sexier.  There are a dozen pretty shades including two new ones just right for Spring: "Plum Pixie"is a sheer, shimmery plum and "Silk Brown" is a a slightly bronze-y warm brown. These are so shiny and sheer that anyone can wear them and all will love them.

What's not to love about a dual-ended lip gloss that smells yummy and colors and moisturizes your lips? Bonne Bell Lip Lites 2 $4.50 give you a full-color gloss on one end and a clear or shimmery-clear shine on the other.  We love the way these lightly color lips and leave a hint of shimmer, but even nicer were the incredible scents.  We tried two with shimmery clear gloss and color:  "Strawberry Whirl/ Sweet Pink" which really did remind us of juicy strawberries, and "Latte Whirl/Whip Burgundy" that left just a hint of neutral shimmer and the yummy scent of --layer cake? "Sugar Bronze/Vanilla Shine" has a more opaque bronze pearl coupled with a vanilla-scented clear. These are an inexpensive and fun way to perk up a spring lip wardrobe.

When we were kids, we sometimes tried to "color" our lips with magic markers. They didn't look good and using them wasn't good for us.  Now there's a grown-up version that does look good and is great!  Pixi Lip Blush $20.00 is a click-it-type tube only the top has a magic marker top which yes, is what you use to "color" the lipstain onto your lips.  What you will get is long lasting color that you can layer for more or less intensity, and that you are able to control because you're using what is, in essence a cosmetic version of a felt-tipped marker pen!  It's fun to use, and the color really does last--my first application lasted for hours.  We tried "Beauty," a bright, clear pink, and "Love," a fairly bright, strawberry red but six choices run the gamut from nude to vivid raspberry. Add a favorite gloss to make your lips bright and shiny or leave the color matte and casual. Reviewers loved this one!

We adore shimmery lip glosses, but in artificial office light, or in the sun,  they can be distracting. A refreshing change are four Lip Glacé $19.00 from Laura Mercier sans glimmer, all from her stunning "Solar Flair" collection. "Cancun Coral" tints lips with just a hint of pink/coral and super shine.  "Miami Pink" is a stunning, sheer rose that is universally flattering. "Rio Red" and "Figi Orchid" (plum) give lips enough color to look "tinted" without a made-up look, and add high-shine, too. These have Vitamin E, lanolin, and mineral oil to keep lips soft and shiny, not sticky.

There's nothing better than getting a new, luxe lipstick from Shu Uemura, known around the globe for chic, inspired colors and professional quality products. Lollishine Rouge $20.00 lip colors in four, limited edition, optimistic shades of pink are silky-soft, moist, and sheer They slide on like silk, cover with just the right amount of color and shine (and a hint of shimmer) feel great on your lips,  and are quite long lasting (as you would expect a lipstick of this quality). We like #533 a mostly pink with a hint of coral that will flatter everyone. Also in the warm pink mode is #222" a light, clear pink. Cooler and a bit deeper is "335" a medium rose, and #361" is a bright, cool pink. Treat yourself -- you'll look and feel beautiful every single time you apply it! Want more shine? Sweet Lip Gloss $16.00 is a super-soft, shiny gloss with subtle sparkle and do we detect a bit of fresh, fruity  scent?   "Pink Lemonade" is a gorgeous, sheer pink" ""Orange Sorbet"gives lips a warm glow.

My Lip Miracle $8.00 by Avon has received raves since it arrived on the market about a year ago. It's a do-it-all lip product -- long wearing color (we got up to six hours),  tons of moisture, and high shine. The lipstick is so soft it literally feels like the silkiest lip balm as you apply it, making it a "must-have" for Winter-weary lips. There are two new pink-roses and a peachy-pink.  Our favorite? "Pinktastic" (soft rose) and "Pinktabulous" and a "Peach Wonder

For a perfect, pink pout that screams "Spring!" get Lipstick $14.00 in "Monarch" a limited edition from the Madame B collection by M·A·C. Our press materials described the color as being "coral" but we think it looks most like a fresh, tulip-worthy pink, with a hint of frost. Line lips with a profession-quality Lip Pencil $11.50 like "Soar," a corally-brown!" For even more pizzazz alone or over any lipstick,   slick on a top coat of Lustreglass $13.50 in gorgeous "Morning Glory," a silky, sheer-as-a whisper, seriously shimmery/pearly lavender gloss that makes a sexy statement on it's own, too.

By Terry is new to our column and I'm very excited about this line! The dual-wanded Lip Liner $23.00 . has a substantial, well shaped natural hair lip brush on one end, and a soft, long lasting lip liner on the other. You get a nice sharpener, too so that the liner is always in perfect shape. The liner is SO lasting you need to be careful where you place it as it stays exactly where you place it.  This is great new for anyone with dry or mature lips. Since the liner doesn't fade or smudge, you wont' find the color gravitating to the little lines near your lips instead of staying where you want it to be! . I even tried rubbing it off and it barely budged (you can wash it off, of course).  "#3 perfect beige" is a pink-brown that's not too light, dark or obvious. It flattered nearly ever color of pink and earth-tone I coordinated it with. That's amazing, and worth the price!

Show Mom (or tell the world) the women in your family are sassy, sexy and confident with Stila's newest collection: Pussycat Dolls. Inspired by Charlie's Angels 2. The sheer Lip Color $16.50 is an specially effective, subtle compliment to a dramatic eye look "Pussycat Pink" comes in a fishnet-stocking'd graphic silver compact with pink and black frilly garter around the bottom (and how cute is that?)! The color is more than gloss and moist (but not super-shiny). If you want to pump up the shine, add a Lip Glaze $20.00 click-it-pen in a shimmery, super-sheer "Amaretto" or "Peppermint" (pink). Two limited edition, Stila Glaze Doubles   $10.00 offer   double-wanded, sponge-tipped, scented, high-shine glosses. We loved the  almost clear, nude, "Sweet Créme Bouquet" (there's a nice set of sheer pinks, too). Stila Lip Shine $17.00 colors are chic and subtle. They glide on like silk and are never sticky.  They've just been re-packaged in clever tooth-paste-style squeeze tubes with brush tops that have tightly-locking clear covers.  You get just the amount of gloss you wan with no mess and without fumbling for a lip brush. "Sun Shine," is a pretty,   hardly-there peach, "Rosy Shine," a super-sheer pink, and "Honey Shine," a nearly-there nude. All made our lips gloriously shiny and better than bare. Tuck a few into your gym bag now, your beach bag, later in the season.

I don't know who designs the cosmetics for Richard Branson's Virgin Cosmetics Company, but the products definitely reflect his quest for quality and excitement. An example is the new, Pure Radiance Lipstick (approx $18.70 U.S.) which arrives in a curvy, deep blue tube with wide shiny silver ring. The lipstick is amazingly creamy and goes on smoothly even over less-than-smooth lips. Eight, Spring-to-Summer shades color lips have a moist, opaque formula that is rich but not intense. A 3D pearly formula makes your lips moist, full and beautiful, but they will actually also be improved by the ceramides and marine extracts  (not to mention Vitamin E) that nourish your lips and help protect against sign of aging.  We like "Champagne Truffle," which isn't beige as you'd expect, but instead, a beautiful pink that colors lips with believable, deeper than bare rosy-pink   These are simply fantastic lipsticks!

MARK lets you stay in step with this season's icy sheer pastels, affordably, with the new, Opalline Dream $8.50  quartet of lip glosses. A square, frosted, white plastic compact holds generously sized squares of very pearly, opalescent, high-shine glosses in light-as-a-whisper colors of pink, ivory, gold and opalescent pearl. They feel lightweight on your lips and are so much fun to wear solo for a hint of color with high shine. They're even better mixed with each other or with your favorite lip colors to create a holographic effect, or something entirely new. What fun!

Bourjois 3D Cosmic Effect Lip Gloss $15.00 is so  shimmery and makes even bare lips so pouty and sexy that we nearly put it in the little helpers column.  They're just dazzlingly gorgeous!   Ultra shiny mother of pearl and light-reflecting pigments pump up the volume to make literally everyone's lips va-va-voom!  Slick  nearly-sheer "Prismatic White or Astronomic Blue on your bare lips and get instant, high-wattage gleam and shimmer pr use it as a top coat over another lip color to make it amazing!   Symphonic Rose and Magnificent Framboise are light and medium sheer pinks that are perfect to welcome Spring, or to add instant

Bobbi Brown capitalizes on her Spring rose theme with a new rose-colored gloss in her line of lovely Lip Glosses $18.00. "Rose Shimmer" is a shiny, medium rose that looks universally natural on everyone --it's your lips, only rosier, brighter,  poutier,  fuller, and much, much better!  This may be the lip gloss you reach for over and over again,  Soft, natural, flattering, better than bare!

Savvy sirens have always known that lip glosses with great scents are not only fun to wear, they attract people that are fun to be around!  Maybelline Shiny-Licious lipgloss $5.99 is a new take on this theme -- a nifty, sponge-tipped applicator slicks on one of nine, super-shiny, hydrating glosses with just a hint of color and a burst of scent. What's your passion?  Cherry?  Melon? Grapefruit? Maybelline's got your fat-free treat in a clean, easy to apply sponge tipped squeeze tube. My favorites are  "Melon Ball," a lusciously scented melon with a hint of peachy shine and "Strawberry Tart"   which really does smell like it's name and leaves your lips shiny-sheer- pink. Get these to perk up Winter weary lips now, flatter your beach look, later on. For a more intense application of color and shine (sans scent) try the new Wet Shine Fusion $6.75 - a slimline lipstick that delivers truly gorgeous, silky, super-saturated color with a moist finish. We tried "Sparklin' Bronze," a universally flattering rosed-brown, but there are 14 nice shades to suit any fancy.

Chapped Lips? Collective WellBeing Lipbalm $3.50 15oz has beeswax as it's main ingredient, The soft, swivel-up , non-shiny balm makes chapped lips feel soothed and protected. This one is perfect for the entire family, and inexpensive enough to get several --one for home, office, gym bag, car, etc.

If you're like most of us, your lips are still facing the after-effects of winter heat, wind and cold. And did you know that some toothpaste can also dry out your lips? Tony & Tina's new Herbal Lip Conditioner SPF 15 $17.00 looks high-tech in it's stark white and silver "bullet" compact, and the lip balm has a sunny, orange-coated coating over a yellow core. What it does is provide SPF 15 protection from the sun's rays, while it conditions your lips. There's no shimmer, color or shine so everyone in the family can (and should) use it.  Loaded with calendula, tangerine, aloe, and jojoba, it will keep your lips healthy, safe, and soft.

Jilda Beverly Hills gives you instant patent leather lips with her Delicious Duo Lip Gloss $22.00. The ultra-shiny colors look hot, wet and super-sexy. We tried "Pink Princess/Diva," a baby pink and light mauve both super-infused with pearl. You can mix them together or wear them over other lip products to add additional sizzle. For a more traditional look, reach for Lucious Lips Lipsticks $21.00, in a   beautiful, faceted, clear lucite case that will look great every time you take it out and apply the luxe,  creamy, moisturizing lip treatment. We tried "Bubble Gum," a clear, light slightly mauve-y pink.

Sonia Kashuk punches up the color quotient for lips with lip colors in bright poppy and peach. Luxury Lip Sheer $5.99 really does feel like a luxury brand with a budget-minded price. "Sheer Sunshine"  is a bright, semi-sheer peach and "Sheer Chic" a soft pink. Both slide on lips moist and soft-as-silk, leaving sheer, clear color without shimmer or and just a moist (not glossy) patina. If you enjoy the patent leather shine look, simply brush on a coat of  Sheer Vibrancy Lip Gloss $5.99 in "Happy Go Lucky," a bright peach, or "Love Letter," a seriously bright blue-pink.  Need shimmer too? Lip Glossing $6.99 plumps and shines lips with loads of shimmer and high gloss. Lip gloss addicts will love the newest Kissing Me Softy Lip Gloss Palette $12.99 that pairs six super-sheer lip glosses in warmed pinks and neutrals with a larger pan of simply clear lip balm. There's even a small strip of mirror and a nice, lucite handled lip brush so you can apply appropriately, anywhere.

FLIRT Cosmetics are new to our review this column. While clearly geared to a young woman with a hip vibe, the products are still amazingly "adult" with good quality formulas that adults will enjoy, too. A case in point is the Squeeze Me Super Shiny Lipgloss $10.00. Don't be afraid to try it!!  Two new colors are "Glow" (a shimmering, slightly opalescent sheer green) and "Addicted" a bright blue, but the colors are so sheer you barely notice how bright they look in their squeeze tubes, and the gloss is super shiny, sexy and silky smooth that you'll adore them. Plushious Liquid Velvet Lipcolor $10.00 is similarly cheeky in color but amazingly grown up on lips. We especially liked "Nude Kiss," a slick of peachy-pink that flatters anyone's lips. Ditto really pretty, shimmery bronze "Nude Envy" which definitely can compete with the "big girl" makeup.

FACE Stockholm Lipsticks $18.00 look luxe in their shiny, silvery cases with thin, double bands of black enamel at the base. The lipsticks are opaque but not sticky or dry. Two new colors to try this Spring are "Vallmo," a bright, bold salmon-coral, and "Love It," a slightly frosty cool medium pink. Change the look to shiny with Pot Gloss $15.00. "Impulsive" is a super-shiny peach that would work particularly well over Vallmo. TIP: bright, bold lipsticks can highlight redness, blemishes and blotchy patches. FACE Stockholm Ultimate Corrective Lip Pencil $13.00 uses green to neutralize red tones and make the area around your lips look smooth and even toned.

Sue Devitt's latest little lip kit, Mini Stars Kaleidoscope $28.00 is a simple, silvery circle compact with interior mirror. Inside are four pie-shaped pans of limited edition, hydrating lip gloss to go with Spring brights. There's a bright magenta, a bold tangerine, a gold, and a copper. The colors are super-shiny with just a hint of color and shimmer. The consistency is smooth and very lightweight. Great alone, mixed together, or over lipstick, these are simply beautiful glosses.

lancome lipgloss kit.jpg (3699 bytes) Another great lip gloss quartet comes from Lancôme, new to our reviews this column! The Juicy Rouge Palette $37.00 in "Une Parisienne" has three mini lip brushes (and a nice, large mirror) stand ready to help you beautify your lips with transparent red, pink, nude and bare lip glosses. The glosses are top notch (see photo). They're silky, sexy, with a hint of color and lots of shine. They look particularly lovely in their slim, slightly curvy, black compact silk-screened with cheerful, large, pink, red and white overlapping circles!

The American Beauty Summer Collection includes nearly two dozen warm and cool choices of Enduring Beauty Longwear Lipcolor $12.50.  This creamy, intense rich color isn't glittery, shiny shimmery or sheer. It's full coverage,   creamy lipstick like the ones you used to know only it feels soft as a gloss, and lasts! For a jump on the sun-kissed glow of summer, try cool soft rose "Summer Kiss" or the deep, bronzed rose "Wild Ginger."Change the look with a slick of colored shine. Pretty Glossy Luscious Lipshine $12.50 in "Iced Coco" adds a hint of rosy-brown shine, and "Ginger Lemonade" is a high-shine, semi-opaque pure peach!

N.Y.C. Pencil & Pout $3.99 is a clever, clear plastic tube that holds a full coverage, moist liquid lip color. A coordinating lip pencil in also concealed in the long, slender cap!   The color is intense, opaque, super-shiny, and long wearing.  Three colors we like for Spring are: "Parfait Duet," an intense medium rose, "Lilac Duet," a flattering pink with a hint of mauve," and "Teaberry Duet," browned rose" that will warm up lips now, flatter a tan, later. For less intensity, try N.Y.C. New York Color Liquid Lipstick $3.99. This click-it-pen gloss gives you moist (not sticky) lip color that's more than a sheer gloss but less color than  lipstick--and lots of shine, shine, shine! There are a dozen shades from crystal clear to deep burgundy.  "Christine," a spicy copper and "Audre," a soft chocolate flatters bronzers now, tans, later. "Dusty Rose," is a medium warm rose that is universally flattering on every skintone.

Long lasting, luxe, sexy color is yours with Giorgio Armani Lipstick Mania $22.50. These lipsticks are housed in shiny black compacts that look luxe before you even apply them. Inside, true designer colors gives you silky, moist, sexy, long lasting color. It's an ultimate lipstick treat that would be hard to beat. These are actually so moist and soothing they feel better than bare lips. Brighten your day and your look with #21, #23, and #24 three shimmery, soft shades of light and medium peachy-apricot or perhaps, #25, a gorgeous, shimmery bronze. These are a treat. You deserve at least one!

LORAC Gloss Stick $15.00 comes in a simple chapstick-style swivel tube, but there's nothing ordinary about the silky gloss that provides sheer ting and moisture in one ( the stroke of genius, perhaps)? There are four colors; Sheer Plum, Sheer Peach, Sheer Berry and a very shiny, lovely Sheer Shine (clear). I liked the all natural, orange vanilla scent and the plant-derived Hawaiian Macadamia Seed  and Sunflower Seed oils that gives even severely chapped, dry lips relief--and a healthy look and feel. It's a superb gloss--you'll love it!

SNEAK PEEK! Max Factor Color Perfection Lip Gloss $6.50 won't be available until July, but we have sampled it and we think you'll be eager to buy it.   Satiny, soft,semi-sheer color in a silky, glossy base looks nice and natural. Better yet, over time, the conditioners in this gloss actually soften lips and help improve them. You'll like the light, vanilla scent, too. Three colors to try are: "Champagne," a pearly clear with silvery shimmer, "Praline," a shimmery copper, and "Petal," a light, ladylike peach.

Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup is a new favorite of ours. Her PureMoist Lipcolor $17.00 smells nicely, faintly, of rose extract. It is made without chemical dyes or preservatives. The 35 colors come from iron oxides and carmine. These lipsticks are not only moisturizing, but they have natural sun protection as well--important now that you'll be outdoors more often and for longer periods of time.   We tried anew shade:  "Kim," a slightly pearly rose with just a hint of berry that made our lips look just a bit pinker and feel much better than bare--by far!

Urban Decay Candy Coating Lip Glosses $12.00 are fat-free sweet-scented treats for you or perhaps, for Mom on Mother's Day. Sheer, glittery, wet shine glosses slick on via click-it pen. We tried "Jelly Bean," a sheer berry with a raspberry scent.  "Caramel" is a Springtime sheer peach with a hint of mango.  'Taffy," is a sheer raspberry with a cherry scent (wonder why they called it taffy, though) and "Cotton Candy" has all the sweet strawberry you'd expect, along with a very pretty, light pink to just kiss your lips with a hint of color. The idea is all girl, the look, very sexy woman!

Today you crave a hint of color and shine, tomorrow, a more concentrated look.   Get both with Scott Barnes Lip Looks Glossy Glossy $22.00. The handy brush tip lets you apply just one swipe for a little for a bit of color and high shine. However, the gloss is light and long lasting enough to pile on a few more layers until your pout is "patent-leather pretty!"  You can find less expensive glosses, but you get what you pay for with this one - it really does provide a number of "Lip Looks" from one product and you don't have to tote (or store) an arsenal of glosses to do it!  For Spring, "Sassy" is a vibrant fuchsia that surprisingly, looked good on pale, deep, cool and warm complexions. Can your existing glosses claim that?

Modernista Lip Color $20.00 by Prescriptives is a rich, intense  lip color with a velvety, satin finish that is housed in a shiny, silver, architecturally-sculpted case.  It is lightweight and moist but it's long lasting, too. Vitamin E and anti-oxidants moisturize and protect against damage. Twenty colors are arranged by yellow/orange, red/orange, red, and blue/red tones to suit varying complexions. Warmer skin will be flattered by "Feisty"  a warmed rosy-copper and "Lively," a creamy light peach, both in the red/orange tones.   Cool (blue/red) skintones will be Spring-perfect with Excite," a clear, blue-based pink.

The Gloss Kit + Mini Lip Brush $28.00 comes in a chic, slim, credit-card sized matte silver compact with white Pixi logo and a bonus "retractable" mini lip brush. Inside the compact with interior mirror, eight shades of sheer gloss in shimmery and shiny textures are nestled into generous squares. I tried "Perfect Red" (reds, pinks, and a few warmed coppery tones) and liked the way these went on smoothly with a hint of color and lots of shine.  There's also Perfect Pink (peach and pink shades), Perfect Plum (plum and berries), and Perfect Nudes (honey, fudge and bronze).  Lipstick kits like this make it easy to pack light or have lots of lip look options whenever, where ever.  This is a perfect little splurge for you, or a great gift for Mom or a special friend.

Rimmel London Jelly Gloss $3.00, a hit in the  U.K, has hit American shores and is making a splash in the U.S.A. An impressive but affordable gift idea for Mom is to pack the four high-shine, super-sheer (barely-there) glossy, lightweight colors (pink, orange, red and raspberry) and the high-wattage clear,  into a pretty makeup or evening bag  (check our GIFTS section for a great one) to keep her lips soft and pretty all Spring and Summer! We like the very light, slightly fruity scent, too.  These are so sheer they would also make a perfect first gloss. Of course, they're also great for slicking over a lipstick to add high shine!
