I recently attended the holiday gift show and discovered that Sylvania is a lot more than just light bulbs. Here are some of the uniquem usual, affordable items that will make Summer and home activities, awesome!

This maroon mat may look like a magic carpet, but it's a place mat. And not just any old place to put your dinnerwear, at that. For more fun, serve your drinks on Sylvania LED Color Changing Coasters srp. $19.99/4. They're a fun way to amuse your guests, and keep your furniture from getting ruined. The color-changing lighted coasters are white plastic. The light show starts when you put the weight of a glass or bottle on it. The colors softly change as you watch, thanks to two CR2032 button cell batteries (they're included). You can't put these in the dishwasher, but they wipe clean and are water resistant.

Along the same lines, there's the Sylvania LED Bottle Topper $4/99. The top can be used on virtually any bottle, with a battery that lasts for up to 20 hours. Just push the button on the top to watch the light show begin. On a clear water bottle, for example, the colors will reflect all the way down the bottle as in the photo--pretty amazing! This words for wine and even olive oil. The toppers are so inexpensive, stock up on them for stocking stuffers for the holidays. They'll be a sure-fire hit!

Less colorful, but great for extra light, is Sylvania's Golden Dragon srp. $14.99 (who could resist that name)? The disk emits a bright, white light to mount under a cabinet and illuminate a specific area where you need a bit more. Since it's battery-powered you can stick it up anywhere with an easy install, and not worry about wires. The Golden Dragon has both magnetic and adhesive backing so you can mount it to either a magnetic or non-magnetic surface. The single, energy efficient LED is 30 times brighter than incandescent stick-up lights and you can use it at low or high light levels. And if that doesn't wow you, how about the fact that it's motion-activated with an automatic shut off? I mean, what light does this?! You simply wave a hand once across the front of the light to turn it on at high power, wave a second time for low power, and a third time to turn it off. If you leave it unattended, it will turn itself off after one hour. All you need is three AA batteries--and they're included!

The Dot-it Light srp. $9.99 is also a self-adhesive, bright white light that comes with colorful rims that you can stick up virtually anywhere you feel like it. They're small but mighty--great for the type of spot light you might not use every day, but need occasionally. I have mine near the stove next to the counter so I can really see what I'm doing. To turn the light on, all you do is press in the center. Press again to turn it off. The light is powered with three AAA batteries and will give you about 100 hours of bright, white LED light. Then, just replace the battery! You can stick and re-stick the light on virtually any clean surface. They're great in the car, too!

What I like about this foundation, for starters, is that while it comes in 18 shades, the product is sheer and natural enough to cover flaws (and be kind to large pores) without having to pick just one, perfect shade. I tried "warm light" but I could have used one or two shades in either direction and still looked fine. The oil-controlling formula is sweat and humidity resistant, water resistant (not that I'd advocate wearing it while swimming, but still...) and lasts a long, long time (the tube says 16 hours, but I didn't test it that long). But I liked the moistly matte finish and the light feel. My skin looked good, and I felt at least a little virtuous that I was protecting it from daily UV exposure (I'd wear a much higher SPF if I was planning to be outside or in the sun for any length of time).

Don't forget your lips! I tried "Mango," which really didn't tint my lips that much, even though it looked bright orange in the tube, but it did leave lots of pouty, shimmery, shine....gorgeous! The super-shiny, silky, non-sticky gloss has a luscious, guava taste and comes in a slant-tipped squeeze tube perfect for toting to the beach as well as to work. Cool graffiti graphics make the packaging, fun. This lip gloss is definitely excitement in a tube!

To Keep Your Floor Free of Scuff Marks: With all those feet in and out, your sure to be left with some scuff marks. A quick spot is easy enough to remove—rub the mark with a little paste floor wax and steel wool, let dry, then buff. Gone in a flash.

Getting colored wine, juice and sangria out of furniture: After a few cocktails, there’s always the chance for a spill! Dilute a teaspoon of mild detergent in a cup of lukewarm water and blot. Then mix up one part white vinegar with two parts water, and blot, then sponge off.

Cleaning Outdoor Cushions: A winter in storage can leave your cushions a little dusty. Just use a scrub brush and some mild soap, let the cushions dry thoroughly so mold doesn't’ form.
Getting Outdoor Furniture Ready For Summer: Plastic isn’t always the most durable option so its good to give it a little extra protection. Wipe car wax on plastic to prevent stains. For regular cleaning, apply a solution of water and dishwashing liquid with a soft-bristle brush.

Fashions For Fall 2009 -- Yesterday I showcased some of the must-have trends in accessories for Fall 2009. Today, I'll be suggesting some clothing trends that will want to consider as the weather cools down...or maybe, for right now!

GO FOR BRIGHTS!

Color is the key word for Fall, Pops of color, or overall brights in solids and patterns, are must-haves. This photo is of one aisle of the Accessories Show at the Javits Center. The amount of color, everywhere, was staggering. Displays like this one in the photo were repeated aisle after aisle after aisle! Go for bold red, orange, yellow, lime green, pink, and neon brights, to add a pop of color. Other Colors to Consider: rust, rose, purple, plum, navy blue, honey yellow/goldenrod, beige, soft olive, taupe, charcoal grey

They just make you feel good! Trend Tip: wear "ethnic" as you would an accent. One piece is cute. More than one and you look like a throwback!

CHECKS! Personally, I have never liked buffalo checks, but if you want to be in fashion this fall, the "lumberjack" look is back, big time. This pink dress for a younger woman, takes the look and makes it more "babe" than "Bay City Rollers."

Sweaters and shawls, and logo T-shirts (especially for younger guys) are must-haves. Add a belt over a shawl or sweater to update your existing ones. Logo T-shirts let you express yourself. These are all from TJMaxx and Marshalls Trend Tip: logo shirts are strictly for weekend or casual wear. Hopefully, you already know this!

PLAYFUL, COLORFUL, LINGERIE: No matter what your age, wearing colorful lingerie and sleepwear can make you feel sexy. Why not add some colorful panties (these, from Hanky Pankie, or some young-at-heart sleep, lounge and lingerie wear from Victorias Secret Pink. All are affordable, and they just make life a little more fun.

Other Trends To Watch: boyfriend jackets, boho-tops as mini dresses (over skinny jeans or leggings), skinny pants, super-high heels (if you can't wear them, cute flats are a must-have).

You may still be thinking about what bathing suit to buy, but here are some affordable (and some splurge-worthy) Fall trends to try now, or to buy for when the weather cools off again:

Look chic from head to toe. Two must-have items that you can make trendy, or classic: hats & shoes: Banish bland shoes, for starters. Whether they're casual or work-ready,color and embellishment will be on your toes. I love the luxurious footwear with pops of pink on grey from PORTS 1961, and the quilting and buckles from Lily Pulitzer. And the colorful flip flops in solids and patterns, from Havaianas.

Must-have: HATS! Bravo's television show "Mad Men" helped focus attention on hats for men, once again. These fedoras are from Stetson. Women will be covering their heads with decorative little cloches and knit hats (these from TJ Maxx/Marshalls) in colorful patterns. Hats not only look cute, they keep your body head from escaping when the temperature, dips.

Animal prints are always popular, especially in the Fall. This season is no exception. You'll see them in everything from bras, to bags (leopard prints from TJ Maxx & Marshalls). "Skins" (faux or real) like lizard, croc, and snake, are also a big trend for handbags this Fall, The trio of bags in the photo were displayed at the Accessories Show at the Javits Center. They'll be ready for stores, probably in August. Trend Tip: Animal prints are cute, but don't overdo it. They're best when you feature just one item....not head to toe!

LEATHER! Leather (genuine or faux) of some type is a Fall fashion must. Leather jackets, leather pants, and most of all leather accessories like these bejeweled belt and jacket beauties from one of my favorite luxe leather companies, Kippys. They are an investment, but you'll look and feel like a rock star!

STUDS: Studs, especially the pyramid type, also are hot for Fall on just about every fashion item. Trend Tip: If you're not into "tough," but want to try the look, a studded belt or gloves like the ones shown here from TJ Maxx & Marshalls, will give you a little bit of this popular look.

SCARVES FOR EVERYONE! And I mean, everyone! Get a bunch of really great scarves. They can be very inexpensive or quite elaborate. No matter what price range you're in, scarves for Fall are an absolute must-have! Scarves are so versatile. They're not just to keep your neck warm, you know. They accent anything and everything to add a bit of glitz or a pop of color. Wear them around your neck, but also as belts, or just as accents instead of jewelry. Guys will want scarves in their wardrobes, too. I love these metallic scarf/belt/jewelry accessories from PORTS1961's Fall collection. Tony Alcindor, the very nice and very charming Public Relations Director of PORTS 1961 modeled the PORTS1961 scarf in copper scarf (copper was seen on lots of runways for Fall 2009). What do you think of this look? The colorful display of scarves is from Echo. Trend Tip: a scarf can take the place of jewelry to change the look of an outfit. Take them for travel as they're lightweight and packable, and travel-friendly!

STATMENT JEWELRY! Invest in statement jewelry, real, or faux. The bangles and glittery cuffs on the left are costume from TJ Maxx/Marshalls, the Judith Ripka jewelry will run you more, of course, but it is something you'll want to wear for a lifetime. Judith Ripka has silver, as well as gold collections, making ownership open to a wider audience of fans.

The best way to use your fashion dollars is to think wisely about what you can buy "on the cheap" and what items you want to splurge on but that will pay "dividends" in more holistic way. Some splurge worthy items to consider for all include :

gET a great pair of shades. These from Alain Mikli make a fashion statement, protect your eyes, and will dress up virtually anything from swimsuits to suits.

HIGH-END WATCHES! Indulge in a truly luxe timepiece and you'll have a classic to love for a lifetime. These, from Omega, are in investment. Omega has some bracelets and rings that are splurge-worthy, too.

Bloggers Under Attack!

The online world of content providers are up in arms, and with good reason. The government, more specifically, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has unveiled it's plans to monitor blogs for claims and payments. The reason, according to the FTC is that: "Many bloggers have accepted perks such as free laptops, trips to Europe, $500 gift cards or even thousands of dollars for a 200-word post. Bloggers vary in how they disclose such freebies, if they do so at all."

While I and all of the online reviewers and bloggers I know immediately began wondering where our free trips and laptops were, let alone those cushy gift cards, apparently the FTC thinks we are getting a joyful, free ride for the honor of entertaining and informing you about products. Actually, the print editors apparently are the ones that get the handbags and free trips, but it is easier to target the hapless bloggers. So soon, anyone who blogs and provides opinions about products will have to disclose whether they have received free products or "compensation,: be it a lipstick, or a laptop. In this way, the FTC will be saving you, the reader, from being duped by unscrupulous reviewers. The FTC won't allow you, the "unsuspecting" reader to be misled. Bloggers will have to be very clear that they received an item as a free sample.

I have never tried to mislead anyone. I write what I (repeat: I) think are the best of the best products each day, week, month and year. I have always made it clear, right on the column, that beauty reviews like mine are highly subjective. I might like something you hate, or I might not like something that you really love. So I provide information about the product, and some up-close-and-personal experiences with it. In the end, it is up to you to decide what's right (or not right) for you.

If you have followed my work online for the past 16 years or so, you know that I write lots of things including this daily blog, and a very large (up to 40 printed pages) bi-monthly, beauty and fashion review column called What Works. People wonder why I do this, as there doesn't seem to be anything in it for me. I didn't provide content online for money, I started doing reviewing products because I truly love them -- they fascinate me! However, I also am a freelance writer. That is my "day job." I hope that if you like what you read, perhaps you will hire me to work for your publication online or print.

Furthermore: I review literally thousands of products a year given to me by companies and public relations firms with whom I have had relationships going back a decade or more in some cases. It would be impossible for me to provide my review articles and blog posts to you, if I had to go to a store and purchase every single item, myself. I'd be broke, and I'd never have time for anything else (not to mention I'd have a huge, carbon footprint)! I also receive products in advance of their launch date, so that I can preview these products and direct you to (what I think) are the best of the bes ones. If a company didn't send these products, I wouldn't even know they existed, and therefore, neither would you.

And, in case I haven't made it clear enough yet, I DO NOT pay for the samples I receive in order to write my reviews. This is always stated right on my What Works review column. However, the lipsticks and such that I receive don't even remotely compensate me for the days and weeks worth of work I put into writing reviews, for which I do not receive a salary. And, when it comes to advertising, for the first dozen years I provided online content, I did not allow any advertising at all. But, in this economy, I reluctantly began to allow it. Although the FTC might not think you're smart enough to know that advertisements on my blog and web site (most are labeled as such) earn me a few cents if you click on them (so please do!) I believe my readers do know. You are intelligent adults who can make decisions for yourselves about what to read, and who to trust--and I am grateful that so many of you have put your trust in my opinions and know that a free lipstick, or a handbag, or even a laptop (were I lucky enough to receive one) would not taint my opinion in any way!!! In fact, if I felt couldn't be objective and honest, I would not accept anything .

Emrah Kovacoglu, founder and CEO of Total Beauty Media, fueled blogger's frustrations even further yesterday, with an article he wrote claiming that "Beauty Brands Should Not Be Working With Bloggers". He not only lumped all bloggers (responsible, skilled journalists and hobbyist writers) into one big group, but arrogantly stated that: bloggers should not deal with beauty brands directly but should use Total Beauty's "Sneek Peek" program instead. In this program, bloggers are given products to review but they don't get to pick them, and everyone gets the same product at the same time. If we didn't have individual relationships with companies and PR firms, all you would be able to read would be reviews of the same products, over and over again!

Mr. Kovacglu has since produced a sort-of explanation, if not apology, on YouTube.

I am really dismayed at what's happening and I'm using my blog to state my opinion. It will be a sad day when government intervention and oversight dumbs down what (and who) you can read. Freedom of speech, especially online, was what made blogging unique and wonderful. I don't always like what I read nor do I think all bloggers provide the same quality content, but I like the freedom to choose. Don't you?

Handbags are something girls can't live without! Unlike guys who just stuff things in their pockets or carry-alls, we need style as well as a place to put a dozen lipsticks, keys, cell phones, etc. But handbags can be pretty expensive, especially if they're trend. Hive & Co. is a UK company featuring trendy styles that are regularly updated throughout the seasons. They're only available at selected independent retailers on in England on the High Street and also, online (for those of us who crave them, but don't live nearby). Hive & Co. bags are affordable, but their "Trendy" doesn't mean that they're poorly made. The quality is obvious, from the choice of fabrics and fittings right down to the topstitching and the style of zip pulls, plus interior ‘phone and zip pockets.

If you are shopping online, you'll be happy to know that their web site is really user-friendly and the delivery service, even from the UK to the States, was super-fast. You will have to deal with exchange-rate issues from Euros to Dollars (your credit card will determine the exact cost based on what the exchange rate is at the time of your purchase). Right now the company is negotiating with a company in the US to distribute bags "in person" to the States, so you'll have to buy online at present. No matter, the bags are definitely worth it! I don't know who is designing them but obviously they have talent!

I received two handbags to suggest to you, both of which are truly 4-season bags. Wear them now, or buy them and save them for Fall.

The Ochre Agnes Shoulder Bag £50.00 is 38cm x 22cm x 8cm. It has a grained, faux leather finish and a smooth, nylon lining that matches the exterior. The Agnes I received is the dark purple one (it looks almost brown--just a gorgeous color), but it's also available in yellow (as shown in the photo). It is a perfect work bag, with a nicely-sized central zipped pocket for notebooks and papers, and pouch for your mobile ‘phone and small zip pocket for your keys and other small items. You'll find room for most everything you need, without leaving a bruise on your shoulder. The brushed metal, turn-lock hardware looks substantial as are all the metal accents. Tassel pull-tags on the zippers, even stitching, and a some well-placed metal ball studs make this look seriously expensive. Yet the entire bag is lightweight so you can stuff it. It's amazing how much I could put into the bag, and it still looks sleek and ladylike. The same style in a leather handbag with metal fittings would seriously weigh you down.

A day-to-evening transition can be tough if you can't carry two handbags with you. Appropriate for day wear, funky enough to wear for an evening out, is this Abby Tote Bag £55.00 . This large, black patent bag is 39cm x 26cm x 10cm. It has a man made shell and textile lining. I love the trendy, crinkle patent and gathered front that looks like pleated pants. This gives it a festive look. One side is unadorned, but the other has a number of shiny, gold buckets and "belt stays" to give it glitz. You can wear it with the unadorned side out, or the gold embellished one for lots of different looks. That would be enough to make me think it's cute. The Abby Tote Bag has another bonus and a little secret: It has a gold zipper that goes around the entire purse from side to side. This working zipper zips open to add more room (like an expanding suitcase). It's just the best all around bag, ever! I wish it was available in more colors -- I'd get them all.

Chanel Côte d’Azur Collection is a must-have

There's nothing like a new lipstick or blush, or eye shadow to make me smile, Chanel cosmetics collections always please me the most. When it comes to Chanel's Summer 2009 collection; Côte d’Azur, I'm a bit behind in getting samples to review. But honestly, the items are so drool-worthy, so hot, these are bound to be coveted collectibles. The collection is varied and contains all the usual products for eyes and face, but the items I love the most are the six new shades of Chanel's Aqualumiere lipsticks. These moisturizing lipsticks slide on like satin and they're sheer and smooth and even better they have SPF 15 to keep your lips safe from the sun just a bit longer. For this collection, all of the shades satisfyingly compliment sunkissed skin (hopefully fake baked....).

So what's the scoop on these pretty pout-makers?

The colors are meant to flatter sunkissed skin, but they're all very sheer. That means you can wear any of them and feel good about it. But the colors do come in warm and cool shades, so you can find the tones that flatter you the most:

Ischia: A rose violet with glints of gold shimmer that flatter like a berry wash, not too harsh or deep.

Monte Carlo: This is a sheer, warm peach. It looks fairly intense in the tube, but it goes on almost as sheer as a tinted lip balm.

Lipari: A creamy, sheer, medium rose that is universally flattering. Just enough color for a dressy but not overdone lip look.

Porto Rotondo: this sheer, shimmery red is best worn, I think, as a swipe of cheery lip stain, but you can build the color quite a bit to make this more bold.

Panarea: a sheer, cool-toned, creamy mauve with just a hint of shimmer

Salina: this is a barely-there nude that is perfect when you really don't want to wear color, but you do want the merest hint of moist tint to keep your lips hydrated and pouty. You could actually use this one as a base for a deeper color, too.

Sarah & Katie were friends and moms. Apparently, they had a shared vision of spices that would stay fresh, as well as orderly, on their shelves. Together, they created a most unusual company, TSP Spices. They now offer individual spices and spice gift sets (without additives or fillers) with a difference. Spiced Nuts

1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
2 cups raw pecans (or almonds, or any other nut)
1 egg white, lightly beaten

1 packet tsp spices Organic Korintje Cinnamon (cassia, ground)
1 packet tsp spices Organic Ancho Chile (ground)
1 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 300 degrees

Lightly grease cookie sheet with oil . Mix almonds and egg whites together and stir to coat. Drain in a colander. In a zip lock bag, mix sugar with salt and spices. Add almonds to plastic bag and shake to coat. Spread nuts in a single layer on cookie sheet and roast 40-45 minutes.

Let cool, then enjoy! Note: If you like more spice flavor, use 2 packets each of cinnamon and chile. These freeze very well

Handbags and Shoes: you can't have too many. Lots and lots of both are a girl's dream! Tonight I was surrounded by lots of handbags and shoes, but I wasn't dreaming -- I was at the Independant Handbag Designer Awards at the New York Historical Society.

The awards give new and young designers a chance to shine, and win some impressive prizes.

This bag by Andres Stickney for DRES won the Best Green Handbag Award, and will be produced by Korres Natural Products for their stores.

This bag by Lorna Nixon won the Best Use of Crystallized Swarovski Elements Award, including the chance to have a limited edition run of the bag produced for Swarovski stores.

35 finalists were chosen by a preliminary judging panel of Handbag Designer 101. The
Judging Panel included: Handbag Designer and 2007 IHDA Lifetime Achievement Recipient of 2007, Carlos Falchi, Lisa Smilor (Associate Director for the Council of Fashion Designers of America: CFDA), Lincoln Moore, (SVP DMM, Accessories, Saks Fifth Avenue), Sam Edelman (CEO of Sam Edelman), Stephan Toljan, (CCB Vice President Market Management of Swarovski), Devi Kroell (CEO & CCO for Devi Kroell), Katie Boertman (Trade Marketing Manager for Singer Sewing Company), Tina Aldatz (President of Foot Petals), Meghan Cleary (Miss Meghan: America.s Shoe Expert) and Julia Poteat (Assistant Professor of Fashion Methods for Parsons The New School for Design). They decide who has the "Top Handbag and Shoe Design" and select a winner in eight categories.

An Iconoclast Award was presented to LuLu Guiness for her 20 years in accessories design

Although the focus is handbags, a shoe category "Best Shoe in Overall Style and Design" was also included. These amazing shoes by Raphael Young won. Tina Aldatz (President of Foot Petals), presented this award. This shoe will be created as a limited edition to be sold exclusively at Verve. Tina will be designing the inner part of the show shoe (thanks to Foot Petals) so it feels as good to walk in, as it looks. The Advice Sisters reviewed a number of Foot Petals products in November 2007 and also in 2005. They really help make walking in any type of shoe, more comfortable, but especially when you're wearing high heels. Tina told me that she injured the bottoms of her feet when she was a child, and used this as a motivation to create padding for feet that would work in dress shoes and pumps. She told me she had several different Foot Petals products in her very strappy and high heels. She stood on them all night and still had a smile on her face -- these foot pads, work!

One person I recognised at the cocktail reception was fashion stylist Phillip Bloch. He was so gracious to me back in 2008 when he asked me to take a photo with him at the Evenings in Vogue Event, and he was just as nice, this time.

What struck me as the evening progressed, was how important recognition and incentives are to designers who might have tons of talent, but not a lot of money. Unlike many awards shows where the recipients are blase, the winning designers literally burst with pride and excitement as their names were announced. It was really great to see. A great way to launch a career, and I can't wait to see some of the designs, for sale! Check out all the designs of the finalists, Which ones do you like the best?

Jeanine Morris of BeautySweetSpot.com Hosts a Killer Launch Party!

Last night I attended a launch party at Townhouse Spa on 56th Street in Manhattan for beautysweetspot.com. While it is a bit unusual to have a huge blowout for a blog, this one is the the creation of talented and vivacious, former Cosmopolitan Beauty Assistant, and public relations professional, Jeannine Morris. So a bit of fanfare and some "gilty" pleasures for guests, were definitely in order.

BeautySweetSpot covers industry news, updates on hot trends, celebrity image and expert tips. The topics run the gamut from product reviews to a video link for a "how-to-down-there" Schick video. "A brand new beauty blog you can relate to!" is Jeanine's slogan for the content.
With provocative headlines like: "Sperm...good for your skin" and a confession that the author loves (among other things): "striking black eye liner, natural spray tans, gossip magazines, Christian Louboutin stilettos, red wine, not-so-sticky lip gloss, skinny girl margaritas, Nicole Richie, dark chocolate, dancing, classy lingerie, and of course, men," the very well-written content is sure to get your attention.

Last night's launch was quite an extravaganza, with complimentary beauty treatments, a signature martini, and nibbles, including an insane chocolate fountain, and mountains of chocolate cherries I tried hard to ignore. I arrived early, but within an hour both floors of the Townhouse Spa were literally packed with bloggers and writers, industry movers and shakers, and friends.

When I walked in the door, almost immediately, I ran into Altja Banja (formerly with Christo, now with DEX New York) who was one of the hair stylists I met backstage at the Fall 2009 Loris Diran runway show (see the Loris Diran hair looks). Among the many complimentary mini-services offered, Altja was doing touch-ups with DEX New York's excellent mineral makeup--so how could I refuse? This photo was taken by a very nice woman who offered to risk smudging her newly-manicured nails, to snap the picture!

DEX New York was also providing hair touch-ups and updos. The charming Naomi Porto, did mine!

I almost never review someone else's blog on mine, but Jeanine is not only a talented writer and a sparkling personality, I can't help but recommend her work. She's also well connected online. Beauty Bonanza in A Box--Beauty Fix

You don't have to be a celebrity to have a stylist pick and present a quarterly array of beauty items she thinks you should try. It's as easy as ordering online! Beauty Fix is a subscription -based beauty sampling program that selects product (a panel of beauty experts) thinks you would like to try. For $50 each quarter, you receive a box filled with full size and travel-sized samples of a variety of products.

I was asked to try the service. Overall, I was impressed with the variety and the quality. These aren't drug store brands (nothing wrong with those, but it's the more unique, boutique brands that make it into the Beauty Fix kits). My kit included eight items, mostly full-sized:

Is the $55.00 price tag a bargain, or a sucker's deal? As with most kits, the advantage of having someone else do the leg work is just the first part of the bargain. The second is that kits tend to be less expensive and give you the opportunity to try things you might love, but didn't want to pay full retail for right away. So yes, the kit is definitely worth the cost-- even if you don't love everything in it. In fact, The Advice Sisters have reviewed a few of these items already in my What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review column (visit our archives to find the reviews). I know what many of these products cost, retail. For example, I am absolutely wild about Lisa Hoffman's luxe skincare products. The full sized serum that arrived in my Beauty Fix kit costs $55.00, alone!

Also included with the Beauty Fix kit was a nice, zippered makeup travel tote, and there was information about the products, so you know what's in them and how to use them. If you like to be interactive, you can also order products at a discount and take part in reviews and forums on the Beauty Fix website.

All in all, I was very impressed. There were some products I never would have considered if they hadn't been in this kit. The only thing I would like to have had with the kit was the option to choose items based on my age and interests.

If you spend more than $200.00 each year on makeup items you'd like to try, you'll be very enthusiastic about Beauty Fix. That's still a lot of money for the average woman to handle. On the other hand, if you spend that much on non-essential items, anyway, Beauty Fix is a way to look better, feel better, and get a great bargain!
