Here are some of the uniquem usual, affordable items that will make Summer and home activities, awesome!

This maroon mat may look like a magic carpet, but it's a place mat. And not just any old place to put your dinnerwear, at that. These LED Lighted Place mats in black or maroon feature moire-style fabric featuring tiny, LED fiber optic placements on both sides of the mat. A hidden on/off button lights the strips of twinkling lights, that blink with the side brilliance of stars and planets in a clear, night sky. The batteries are replaceable, although you'll probably just want to keep them on for the "wow!" factor and then perhaps turn them off when the main course is ready to be served. But if you don't mind springing for extra batteries, set your table with these (Scotchguard protected) mats for an elegant, outdoor dinner party. As the sun sets, watch your table become a galaxy of stars!

For more fun, serve your drinks on Sylvania LED Color Changing Coasters srp. $19.99/4. They're a fun way to amuse your guests, and keep your furniture from getting ruined. The color-changing lighted coasters are white plastic. The light show starts when you put the weight of a glass or bottle on it. The colors softly change as you watch, thanks to two CR2032 button cell batteries (they're included). You can't put these in the dishwasher, but they wipe clean and are water resistant.

Along the same lines, there's the Sylvania LED Bottle Topper $4/99. The top can be used on virtually any bottle, with a battery that lasts for up to 20 hours. Just push the button on the top to watch the light show begin. On a clear water bottle, for example, the colors will reflect all the way down the bottle as in the photo--pretty amazing! This words for wine and even olive oil. The toppers are so inexpensive, stock up on them for stocking stuffers for the holidays. They'll be a sure-fire hit!

Less colorful, but great for extra light, is Sylvania's Golden Dragon srp. $14.99 (who could resist that name)? The disk emits a bright, white light to mount under a cabinet and illuminate a specific area where you need a bit more. Since it's battery-powered you can stick it up anywhere with an easy install, and not worry about wires. The Golden Dragon has both magnetic and adhesive backing so you can mount it to either a magnetic or non-magnetic surface. The single, energy efficient LED is 30 times brighter than incandescent stick-up lights and you can use it at low or high light levels. And if that doesn't wow you, how about the fact that it's motion-activated with an automatic shut off? I mean, what light does this?! You simply wave a hand once across the front of the light to turn it on at high power, wave a second time for low power, and a third time to turn it off. If you leave it unattended, it will turn itself off after one hour. All you need is three AA batteries--and they're included!

The Dot-it Light srp. $9.99 is also a self-adhesive, bright white light that comes with colorful rims that you can stick up virtually anywhere you feel like it. They're small but mighty--great for the type of spot light you might not use every day, but need occasionally. I have mine near the stove next to the counter so I can really see what I'm doing. To turn the light on, all you do is press in the center. Press again to turn it off. The light is powered with three AAA batteries and will give you about 100 hours of bright, white LED light. Then, just replace the battery! You can stick and re-stick the light on virtually any clean surface. They're great in the car, too!

Sylvania also has an EcoLight Water-powered Shower light $39.99 ; color changing PalPODzzz™ Portable Night-Light $19.99; and color-changing Mod LIght LED Bowl $34.99

Get one or more of the LED items and be prepared to be dazzled, literally!

Go to http://www.sylvania.com/ and some items are also available at select Lowe’s stores and online retailers

Do you like this content? And, they always seem to have plenty of new products featuring SPF--something I absolutely love!

For Summer, All You Need SPF 15 $39.50 1.7 fl. oz delivers 24-hour moisturization in a lightweight base. Fruit and botanical extracts offer antioxidant protection, while broad spectrum SPF 15 gives you mild protection against the sun's rays.

There are natural and high-tech ingredients packed inside: grapseed, scutelleria, mulberry root and yeast extract (to brighten skin and even skin tone); resveratrol, grapeseed extract, rosemary extract, pomegranate extract, citi reticulatae peel extract, EUK-134m and goji berry (to protect skin from free radicals); skin smooth complex with glucosamine and clary sage (to exfoliate); hexapeptide (to boost collagen and reduce the look of fine lines)l sunflower seed cake, barley extract, cucumber fruit extract, and muru muru butter (to strengthen skin's lipid barrier); and caffeine, sucrose and Brazilian red algae (to soothe and calm irritate skin).

The product comes in a curious, squat, plastic bottle with an white, accordion pump top. What's really great about this unscented, dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested, non-acnegenic product is that you can choose from three formulas: Normal, drier, and oilier, types. The lotion feels refreshing and light, making it something you can wear when the temperature rises without getting "shiny." If you're the type that just won't use a sun block, this moisturizer can do double-duty for daily wear.

Another way to protect your skin the easy way is with a multi-tasking foundation. One with SPF 10 is Prescriptives's All Skins Mineral Makeup 16 Hour Wear SPF 10 $32.50. This fragrance-free product is just launching now, and it's packed full of good-for-your-skin goodies, including:
Radiance Emitting Crystals (R.E.C.), a unique mineral complex of Amethyst, Rose Quartz and Calcite, give skin a soft, luminous "lit from within" glow; Flex Matrix Technology (for long wear and a smooth, even, application); Titananium Dioxide (for non-chemical broad spectrum sun protection SPF 10); and Sodium Hyaluronate (helps to maintain skin’s moisture balance).

What I like about this foundation, for starters, is that while it comes in 18 shades, the product is sheer and natural enough to cover flaws (and be kind to large pores) without having to pick just one, perfect shade. I tried "warm light" but I could have used one or two shades in either direction and still looked fine. The oil-controlling formula is sweat and humidity resistant, water resistant (not that I'd advocate wearing it while swimming, but still...) and lasts a long, long time (the tube says 16 hours, but I didn't test it that long). But I liked the moistly matte finish and the light feel. My skin looked good, and I felt at least a little virtuous that I was protecting it from daily UV exposure (I'd wear a much higher SPF if I was planning to be outside or in the sun for any length of time).

Don't forget your lips! Calyx Sheer Exhilarating Lip Gloss $14.50 comes in three, super-sheer, shimmery, limited edition shades (inspired by the Prescriptives Calyx fragrance's citrus notes) and tailor made for different skin tones: Mango (warm); Pink Grapefruit (cool) and Guava (neutral). I tried "Mango," which really didn't tint my lips that much, even though it looked bright orange in the tube, but it did leave lots of pouty, shimmery, shine....gorgeous! The super-shiny, silky, non-sticky gloss has a luscious, guava taste and comes in a slant-tipped squeeze tube perfect for toting to the beach as well as to work. Cool graffiti graphics make the packaging, fun. This lip gloss is definitely excitement in a tube!

Visit http://www.prescriptives.com/ and all Prescriptives Counters nationwide, Holt Renfrew in Canada
Do you like this content? And cleaning and home expert Thelma Meyer has recently written a book as well. I reviewed (Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Home: No-Nonsense Advice That Will Inspire You to Clean Like the Dickens) on the Advice Sisters Blog a few months ago, so check out the review!

Just in time for July 4th events, weekend guests and parties, here are some top entertaining tips:

To Keep Your Floor Free of Scuff Marks: With all those feet in and out, your sure to be left with some scuff marks. A quick spot is easy enough to remove—rub the mark with a little paste floor wax and steel wool, let dry, then buff. Gone in a flash.

Getting colored wine, juice and sangria out of furniture: After a few cocktails, there’s always the chance for a spill! Dilute a teaspoon of mild detergent in a cup of lukewarm water and blot. Then mix up one part white vinegar with two parts water, and blot, then sponge off.

Cleaning Outdoor Cushions: A winter in storage can leave your cushions a little dusty. Just use a scrub brush and some mild soap, let the cushions dry thoroughly so mold doesn't’ form.
Getting Outdoor Furniture Ready For Summer: Plastic isn’t always the most durable option so its good to give it a little extra protection. Wipe car wax on plastic to prevent stains. For regular cleaning, apply a solution of water and dishwashing liquid with a soft-bristle brush.

TIP: Mrs. Meyers products come in seven different scent collections: sweet pea, lemon verbena, lavender, basil, geranium, baby blossom (and also scent free). I like them all, but my favorite is the Lemon Verbena. The tangy, fresh, lemony scent elevates your mood. My favorite product? The Room Freshener $4.99 8 oz. A spritz from the plastic pump bottle not only masks scents you don't want (e.g. the cat box) but also adds instant atmosphere! Naturally occurring essential oils in Mrs. Meyer's products make them extra special. I also like the Lemon Verbena Kitchen Basics Gift Set. For just $9.99 who get three favorite household cleaners: Lemon Verbena Dish Soap, 16 oz; Lemon Verbena Countertop Spray, 16 oz; and Lemon Verbena Liquid Hand Soap, 12.5 oz. What a deal! And it makes a perfect thank-you gift for your weekend host or hostess, too.

You have got to visit the Mrs. Meyers web site: Visit. http://www.mrsmeyers.com/ There is an astounding variety of products to help tackle virtually every cleaning task you can imagine. Get the scents you love in everything from dish washing liquid, to dryer sheets. The products are biodegradable and phosphate-free, and never tested on animals. And of course, the spa-style scents, enhance even the dullest of chores.

Love them!
Do you like this content? Whether you're baring your heels and toes at work, or at a summer wedding, or at the beach, you want your feet to look their best. Borghese offers a trio of spa-style helpers at amazingly affordable prices:

DIY: For Neat Feet:

Start with Borghese's Satina Smoothing Callus Remover $15.00. This set comes nicely boxed, featuring not a strong, metal rasp to remove calluses, and also a partner: a huge, click-it style "pen" with a rollerball top, filled with a lovely skin softener (with tea tree extract and aloe) to butter up your dry, dead skin for it's departure. The rollerball application feels soothing and refreshing. Follow this treatment with the metal rasp, and watch the calluses, disappear! The cost is less than half of what a pedicure would cost at a salon, and you'll get many, many treatments out of the skin softener. Depending upon how addicted you get, it might last all Summer and into the Fall.

Keep the pampering on a roll with Borghese Creme Divina Hydrating Leg & Foot Creme 6 fl. oz. The luxe lotion in a plastic, flip-top tube, features Borghese's signature Acqua di Vita Complex . This complex of minerals and amino acids deeply hydrates and restores moisture to much-needed leg and foot areas. these much needed areas. The lotion is also made rich and super-hydrating with grape seed, olive, sunflower and almond oils and a yummy, limoncello scent. Although the creme is rich, it absorbs in a flash--you can see the dry, dead skin literally blossom as you massage it into your feet and legs. A definite "must-have" for smooth, sexy legs and feet and it's an insane bargain at just $15.00!

Another pampering product is Delicato exfoliating Cleanser 6 oz. $15.oo. It has the same, spa-style, pampering ingredients as the Creme Divina, along with finely milled olive pits that help slough of dead skin to boost smoothness.

Together, these three products cost less than one mani-pedi in most good salons. Do it yourself, and use the money you save to buy a couple of gorgeous, Borghese Nail polishes.

Borghese Nail Polishes are synonymous with their luxury brand, yet they sell their Nail Lacquers for a modest $8.00. There's a whole lot to love in these long-lasting, shiny, beautifully-colored polishes. The elegant, almost heart-shaped bottles with striking black tops contain hydrating formulas with Borghese's Acqua di Vita Complex. I love the duale curved brush applicator that fits your nail, so you can get your polish on smoothly in one swipe! Vitamin E, crushed semi-precious gems, (for brilliance) and olive leaf help refresh and restore and add to the pampering. For Summer, Enjoy some sheer and opaque, perle and creme formulas, with colors inspired by the hues of the Italian landscape. I particularly like the pop of pearly color you get from Peach D'Oro, a sheer wash of peach shot with gold shimmer that reminds me of a sunset. Bolder and deeper is Amalfi Melon, also a sheer wash of color that looks more pink with golden shimmer than melon (at least to me). On the softer side, subdued hues are in, and I like the perle Bellini Peach -- a nice substitute for light pink. Metallic and bold San Remo Bronze adds a lot of color and compliments every complexion from pale to San Tropez Tan. Traditionalists will like the bold red and bold pink rose-themed, opaque cremes. The blue-based Bellissima Rose has the rich, deep, velvety look of dark rose petals. Verona Pink, a deep, American Beauty pink. Both are great for party going, as well as a pretty statement for toes.

New "DIY" for Nails:

No matter what polish you choose, Perfetto Smudge Smoother $12.00 removes imperfections on your nail enamel without ruining the whole thing. Vitamin E, olive leaf extract, and safflower oil help moisturize and condition, too.

Just like an artist's canvas, your mani/pedi will last longer if you prepare the canvas, add the "paint"and then seal it with a top coat. Presto Fast Dry Top Coat is a must-have for anyone who just doesn't have time to wait. The $9.00 top coat is well worth the investment, sealing your nail lacquer in 30 seconds with a smooth, hard-chip-resistant finish that lasts up to 10 days. An acrylic polymer complex sets, seals and shields and shines nails , while double UV filters help your color to stay true, Micronized gemstones add brilliance.

These products look like a million, but they're really a steal! You can find Borghese hand, feet and nail products at select chain drugstores and Ulta stores. "Do It Yourself" has never been as easy and pleasurable, and keeping to your budget never felt or looked, so good!

Do you like this content? Get in the habit of wearing them!

No matter what products you choose, you need to apply enough of it (read the labels for more information) and re-apply them every few hours (more often, if it’s hot, or you're exercising).

SPF protection isn’t a substitute for sensible sun bathing. It's still best to avoid the sun when it's the strongest (10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.).

Cover arms, legs and feet and don't forget all those hard to reach places where the sun still hits you.

Don't leave home without sunglasses and a hat. They're fashion statements, anyway!
Do you like this content? Dr. Erno Laszlo was a pioneer in skincare, and the favorite of stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe and more recently, Hilary Duff and The Advice Sisters!

The line was one of the first I remember to offer personalized skincare solutions, and one of the first lines I coveted when I was much younger, even when I couldn't afford it. But you could go to the Erno Lazlo counter and consult with the person behind the counter to discover what regimen would work best for your skin. You can still do that, of course, but now there's an easy, at-home way to figure out what's best, with a new tool on the Erno Lazlo web site http://www.ernolaszlo.com/ called the "Laszlo-Matic," Answer a few questions about your skin, and it will give you personalized product recommendations: http://www.ernolaszlo.com/i57/information.html

No matter what your skin type, the eye-catching, checkerboard rainbow-colored, pressed powders in their shiny, square, black compacts are a delight to use. For example, the Erno Lazlo Multi-pHase Bronzer $38.00 (light or deeper) features a triple-milled, matte powder that smoothes on your skin without streaking or flaking. The five different hues in bronze (with other warm tones) gives you face a sheer, natural "tan" with the flick of a bronzer brush. There's also Vitamin C to provide brightening properties and clarifying benefits, and Vitamin E to calm and strengthen. structure and helps calm and soothe skin irritation. TIP: Use the bronzer to even out any splotches (on your face) from uneven tanning, or swipe a cotton ball or bronzer brush around all of the colors, and lightly apply to areas of the face that naturally "catch" the sun including the forehead, tops of cheeks, brow bone, and the tip of the nose and chin. There's also a lovely Multi-pHase Highlighter, and a universally flattering Multi-pHase Blusher.

NOTICE! Looking tan isn't the same thing as being protected from the sun. For that, you need real protection from the sun's damaging rays. For total face and body protection try Erno Laszlo Total Face and Body Protection SPF 30 *read the review on the Advice Sisters "What Works" Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion Review Column up within a couple of day...the first week in July.

For more information and to purchase products:

Erno Laszlo Institute, 888-352-7956, http://www.ernolaszlo.com/ , and Erno Laszlo counters at fine specialty stores including: Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew.
Do you like this content? If so, I'm guilty!

I love the Avon Pro 3 in 1 Lip Wand $9.50 that is launching this July. It's a magic wand for multi-tasking your lip routine. This Avon Pro 3 in 1 Lip Wand has three components to compliment your lips: a lipstick, a lip gloss and a lip pencil.

The wand is about the same width as any lip gloss wand, but it's a bit longer to accommodate all three pieces. But what's so great about it is that the colors are coordinated and you only need to bring this one product with you to line, color and gloss. It's fast, effective, efficient, great for travel...I just love the idea! I tried "Frozen Rose," a silky, moist, pampering lipstick featuring a feminine, light, natural-looking pink with just a hint of shimmer. The coordinating pencil is pink, the gloss, clear. It makes a perfect daytime trio!

visit www.avon.com and fall in love with the 3-in-1 Lip Wand, yourself!
Do you like this content? I selected a one liter, fire-engine red, metallic finish bottle (so I'd always see it in the crowd), and asked for "Advice Sisters" plus I chose a sun design from the available patterns (there is a small charge for each addition). Using a high-tech laser-engraving process, Greensender engraved my name and art selection right onto the bottle (pick from three sizes: $19.00; $22.00; $25.00) . The site was super-easy to negotiate, and the tracking and delivery fast and efficient.

A personalized water bottle can last for years, and makes an appreciated, unique and useful gift for your wedding party; for your weekend host/hostess gift; to commemorate a birthday, a birth or other special occasion; or "just-because. Today, I'll be suggesting some clothing trends that will want to consider as the weather cools down...or maybe, for right now!

GO FOR BRIGHTS!

Color is the key word for Fall, Pops of color, or overall brights in solids and patterns, are must-haves. This photo is of one aisle of the Accessories Show at the Javits Center. The amount of color, everywhere, was staggering. Displays like this one in the photo were repeated aisle after aisle after aisle! Go for bold red, orange, yellow, lime green, pink, and neon brights, to add a pop of color. Other Colors to Consider: rust, rose, purple, plum, navy blue, honey yellow/goldenrod, beige, soft olive, taupe, charcoal grey

Beautiful examples of how to wear color this Fall are from PORTS 1961. I love this gorgeous, hot pink and apricot silk blouse from PORTS 1861. A stunning, must-photographed-on-the-runway, India-inspired red dress with black buttons worn over black pants tapered at the ankle, is also part of the PORTS 1961 Fall Collection. To see the PORTS 1961 collection as it looked on the runway, check out my exclusive, Advice Sisters Fall 2009 Fashion Week Runway Coverage of the Fall 2009 show and my backstage coverage with video, too!

COLOR FOR COATS! Store that dull, tan, grey, brown, or black coat, and brighten up your life every day with bright colors in outerwear. the must-have for Fall cool weather wear. This yellow coat, from Alice & Olivia, and this very fashionable, hot pink car coat, were from TJ Maxx/Marshalls., as was

BOHO/ETHNIC! Boho and ethnic themes are also hot for Fall. I love this colorful, Boho-style dress (from TJ Maxx/ Marshalls) . The photo of this rack of boho-inspired clothes was taken at the Accessories show at the Javits Center. There were racks and racks and more racks of generation-spanding. colorful, Boho clothing. They just make you feel good! Trend Tip: wear "ethnic" as you would an accent. One piece is cute. More than one and you look like a throwback!

CHECKS! Personally, I have never liked buffalo checks, but if you want to be in fashion this fall, the "lumberjack" look is back, big time. This pink dress for a younger woman, takes the look and makes it more "babe" than "Bay City Rollers."

Sweaters and shawls, and logo T-shirts (especially for younger guys) are must-haves. Add a belt over a shawl or sweater to update your existing ones. Logo T-shirts let you express yourself. These are all from TJMaxx and Marshalls Trend Tip: logo shirts are strictly for weekend or casual wear. Hopefully, you already know this!

PLAYFUL, COLORFUL, LINGERIE: No matter what your age, wearing colorful lingerie and sleepwear can make you feel sexy. Why not add some colorful panties (these, from Hanky Pankie, or some young-at-heart sleep, lounge and lingerie wear from Victorias Secret Pink. All are affordable, and they just make life a little more fun.

Other Trends To Watch: boyfriend jackets, boho-tops as mini dresses (over skinny jeans or leggings), skinny pants, super-high heels (if you can't wear them, cute flats are a must-have).

Ready to shop? Recently I attended a few Fall previews: one for TJMaxx & Marshalls; The Accessories Show; and a Fall preview featuring some of the fashion clients from AlisonBrod Public Relations.

You may still be thinking about what bathing suit to buy, but here are some affordable (and some splurge-worthy) Fall trends to try now, or to buy for when the weather cools off again:

Look chic from head to toe. Two must-have items that you can make trendy, or classic: hats & shoes: Banish bland shoes, for starters. Whether they're casual or work-ready,color and embellishment will be on your toes. I love the luxurious footwear with pops of pink on grey from PORTS 1961, and the quilting and buckles from Lily Pulitzer. And the colorful flip flops in solids and patterns, from Havaianas.

Must-have: HATS! Bravo's television show "Mad Men" helped focus attention on hats for men, once again. These fedoras are from Stetson. Women will be covering their heads with decorative little cloches and knit hats (these from TJ Maxx/Marshalls) in colorful patterns. Hats not only look cute, they keep your body head from escaping when the temperature, dips.

Animal prints are always popular, especially in the Fall. This season is no exception. You'll see them in everything from bras, to bags (leopard prints from TJ Maxx & Marshalls). "Skins" (faux or real) like lizard, croc, and snake, are also a big trend for handbags this Fall, The trio of bags in the photo were displayed at the Accessories Show at the Javits Center. They'll be ready for stores, probably in August. Trend Tip: Animal prints are cute, but don't overdo it. They're best when you feature just one item....not head to toe!

LEATHER! Leather (genuine or faux) of some type is a Fall fashion must. Leather jackets, leather pants, and most of all leather accessories like these bejeweled belt and jacket beauties from one of my favorite luxe leather companies, Kippys. They are an investment, but you'll look and feel like a rock star!

STUDS: Studs, especially the pyramid type, also are hot for Fall on just about every fashion item. Trend Tip: If you're not into "tough," but want to try the look, a studded belt or gloves like the ones shown here from TJ Maxx & Marshalls, will give you a little bit of this popular look.

SCARVES FOR EVERYONE! And I mean, everyone! Get a bunch of really great scarves. They can be very inexpensive or quite elaborate. No matter what price range you're in, scarves for Fall are an absolute must-have! Scarves are so versatile. They're not just to keep your neck warm, you know. They accent anything and everything to add a bit of glitz or a pop of color. Wear them around your neck, but also as belts, or just as accents instead of jewelry. Guys will want scarves in their wardrobes, too. I love these metallic scarf/belt/jewelry accessories from PORTS1961's Fall collection. Tony Alcindor, the very nice and very charming Public Relations Director of PORTS 1961 modeled the PORTS1961 scarf in copper scarf (copper was seen on lots of runways for Fall 2009). What do you think of this look? The colorful display of scarves is from Echo. Trend Tip: a scarf can take the place of jewelry to change the look of an outfit. Take them for travel as they're lightweight and packable, and travel-friendly!

STATMENT JEWELRY! Invest in statement jewelry, real, or faux. The bangles and glittery cuffs on the left are costume from TJ Maxx/Marshalls, the Judith Ripka jewelry will run you more, of course, but it is something you'll want to wear for a lifetime. Judith Ripka has silver, as well as gold collections, making ownership open to a wider audience of fans.

The best way to use your fashion dollars is to think wisely about what you can buy "on the cheap" and what items you want to splurge on but that will pay "dividends" in more holistic way. Some splurge worthy items to consider for all include :

FASHION EYEWEAR!

gET a great pair of shades. These from Alain Mikli make a fashion statement, protect your eyes, and will dress up virtually anything from swimsuits to suits.

HIGH-END WATCHES! Indulge in a truly luxe timepiece and you'll have a classic to love for a lifetime. These, from Omega, are in investment. Omega has some bracelets and rings that are splurge-worthy, too.

Now that I've given you a taste of what's in store for accessories for Fall 2009, check out Part II of this post, tomorrow --clothing!

Do you like this content? The government, more specifically, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has unveiled it's plans to monitor blogs for claims and payments. The reason, according to the FTC is that: "Many bloggers have accepted perks such as free laptops, trips to Europe, $500 gift cards or even thousands of dollars for a 200-word post. Bloggers vary in how they disclose such freebies, if they do so at all."

While I and all of the online reviewers and bloggers I know immediately began wondering where our free trips and laptops were, let alone those cushy gift cards, apparently the FTC thinks we are getting a joyful, free ride for the honor of entertaining and informing you about products. Actually, the print editors apparently are the ones that get the handbags and free trips, but it is easier to target the hapless bloggers. So soon, anyone who blogs and provides opinions about products will have to disclose whether they have received free products or "compensation,: be it a lipstick, or a laptop. In this way, the FTC will be saving you, the reader, from being duped by unscrupulous reviewers. The FTC won't allow you, the "unsuspecting" reader to be misled. Bloggers will have to be very clear that they received an item as a free sample.

I have never tried to mislead anyone. I write what I (repeat: I) think are the best of the best products each day, week, month and year. I have always made it clear, right on the column, that beauty reviews like mine are highly subjective. I might like something you hate, or I might not like something that you really love. So I provide information about the product, and some up-close-and-personal experiences with it. In the end, it is up to you to decide what's right (or not right) for you.

If you have followed my work online for the past 16 years or so, you know that I write lots of things including this daily blog, and a very large (up to 40 printed pages) bi-monthly, beauty and fashion review column called What Works. People wonder why I do this, as there doesn't seem to be anything in it for me. I didn't provide content online for money, I started doing reviewing products because I truly love them -- they fascinate me! However, I also am a freelance writer. That is my "day job." I hope that if you like what you read, perhaps you will hire me to work for your publication online or print.

Furthermore: I review literally thousands of products a year given to me by companies and public relations firms with whom I have had relationships going back a decade or more in some cases. It would be impossible for me to provide my review articles and blog posts to you, if I had to go to a store and purchase every single item, myself. I'd be broke, and I'd never have time for anything else (not to mention I'd have a huge, carbon footprint)! I also receive products in advance of their launch date, so that I can preview these products and direct you to (what I think) are the best of the bes ones. If a company didn't send these products, I wouldn't even know they existed, and therefore, neither would you.

And, in case I haven't made it clear enough yet, I DO NOT pay for the samples I receive in order to write my reviews. This is always stated right on my What Works review column. However, the lipsticks and such that I receive don't even remotely compensate me for the days and weeks worth of work I put into writing reviews, for which I do not receive a salary. And, when it comes to advertising, for the first dozen years I provided online content, I did not allow any advertising at all. But, in this economy, I reluctantly began to allow it. Although the FTC might not think you're smart enough to know that advertisements on my blog and web site (most are labeled as such) earn me a few cents if you click on them (so please do!) I believe my readers do know. You are intelligent adults who can make decisions for yourselves about what to read, and who to trust--and I am grateful that so many of you have put your trust in my opinions and know that a free lipstick, or a handbag, or even a laptop (were I lucky enough to receive one) would not taint my opinion in any way!!! In fact, if I felt couldn't be objective and honest, I would not accept anything .

Emrah Kovacoglu, founder and CEO of Total Beauty Media, fueled blogger's frustrations even further yesterday, with an article he wrote claiming that "Beauty Brands Should Not Be Working With Bloggers". He not only lumped all bloggers (responsible, skilled journalists and hobbyist writers) into one big group, but arrogantly stated that: bloggers should not deal with beauty brands directly but should use Total Beauty's "Sneek Peek" program instead. In this program, bloggers are given products to review but they don't get to pick them, and everyone gets the same product at the same time. If we didn't have individual relationships with companies and PR firms, all you would be able to read would be reviews of the same products, over and over again!

Mr. Kovacglu has since produced a sort-of explanation, if not apology, on YouTube.

I am really dismayed at what's happening and I'm using my blog to state my opinion. It will be a sad day when government intervention and oversight dumbs down what (and who) you can read. Freedom of speech, especially online, was what made blogging unique and wonderful. I don't always like what I read nor do I think all bloggers provide the same quality content, but I like the freedom to choose. Don't you?

Here is what you will now find on every WHAT WORKS COLUMN starting with the Summer 2009 issue which will be up the first week in July at http://www.advicesisters.net/whatworkscol3.html

ABOUT THE ADVICE SISTERS REVIEWS: The Advice Sisters offer impartial, up-close-and-personal product reviews, conducted by expert beauty & fashion reviewer, Alison Blackman Dunham. If other opinions are included in a review, "we" (instead of "I") is used.
My Review Philosophy: This beauty, fashion and cosmetics review column is called "What Works" (not what doesn't). I want to direct you to what I think are great products, not denigrate those I didn't like (but you might love). I know beauty reviews are highly subjective. It's my responsibility to describe products in a way that offers information, but allows you to use your own, good judgment about whether to buy it or not. I have tested thousands of products and that gives me a foundation to make my judgements, but in the end, the decision to try something is yours, alone!

A Signature Approach: Some online publications and blogs find it easier and more economical to just post photos and press releases of products "as if" they have actually used them. The Advice Sisters only include real reviews. That is, I (or a qualified reviewer) actually try the products, This approach takes much more time and effort, but it is what distinguishes The Advice Sisters from others----I know you appreciate the difference.

A Note About Compensation: I will never formulate my reviews using just high resolution photos and press releases, without experiencing the product I am reviewing. These type of "faux" reviews simple add to the junk and clutter on the Internet, without offering anything substantive or new. In order to write real reviews of real products, I am using samples provided by a company or a public relations firm. There is no way I could write valid, responsible, up-close-and-personal reviews without them. In consideration of The Federal Trade Commission's latest initiative to monitor the validity of blogger reviews, please note that I do not accept "advertorial" (paid content) and any paid advertisements are marked as such. Sample products are not valid "compensation" for the tremendous amount of effort it takes to write genuine reviews, nor do samples influence my experienced opinion of products in any way.

What do you think of the FTC regulating bloggers? Unlike guys who just stuff things in their pockets or carry-alls, we need style as well as a place to put a dozen lipsticks, keys, cell phones, etc. But handbags can be pretty expensive, especially if they're trend. Hive & Co. is a UK company featuring trendy styles that are regularly updated throughout the seasons. They're only available at selected independent retailers on in England on the High Street and also, online (for those of us who crave them, but don't live nearby). Hive & Co. bags are affordable, but their "Trendy" doesn't mean that they're poorly made. The quality is obvious, from the choice of fabrics and fittings right down to the topstitching and the style of zip pulls, plus interior ‘phone and zip pockets.

If you are shopping online, you'll be happy to know that their web site is really user-friendly and the delivery service, even from the UK to the States, was super-fast. You will have to deal with exchange-rate issues from Euros to Dollars (your credit card will determine the exact cost based on what the exchange rate is at the time of your purchase). Right now the company is negotiating with a company in the US to distribute bags "in person" to the States, so you'll have to buy online at present. No matter, the bags are definitely worth it! I don't know who is designing them but obviously they have talent!

I received two handbags to suggest to you, both of which are truly 4-season bags. Wear them now, or buy them and save them for Fall.

The Ochre Agnes Shoulder Bag £50.00 is 38cm x 22cm x 8cm. It has a grained, faux leather finish and a smooth, nylon lining that matches the exterior. The Agnes I received is the dark purple one (it looks almost brown--just a gorgeous color), but it's also available in yellow (as shown in the photo). It is a perfect work bag, with a nicely-sized central zipped pocket for notebooks and papers, and pouch for your mobile ‘phone and small zip pocket for your keys and other small items. You'll find room for most everything you need, without leaving a bruise on your shoulder. The brushed metal, turn-lock hardware looks substantial as are all the metal accents. Tassel pull-tags on the zippers, even stitching, and a some well-placed metal ball studs make this look seriously expensive. Yet the entire bag is lightweight so you can stuff it. It's amazing how much I could put into the bag, and it still looks sleek and ladylike. The same style in a leather handbag with metal fittings would seriously weigh you down.

A day-to-evening transition can be tough if you can't carry two handbags with you. Appropriate for day wear, funky enough to wear for an evening out, is this Abby Tote Bag £55.00 . This large, black patent bag is 39cm x 26cm x 10cm. It has a man made shell and textile lining. I love the trendy, crinkle patent and gathered front that looks like pleated pants. This gives it a festive look. One side is unadorned, but the other has a number of shiny, gold buckets and "belt stays" to give it glitz. You can wear it with the unadorned side out, or the gold embellished one for lots of different looks. That would be enough to make me think it's cute. The Abby Tote Bag has another bonus and a little secret: It has a gold zipper that goes around the entire purse from side to side. This working zipper zips open to add more room (like an expanding suitcase). It's just the best all around bag, ever! I wish it was available in more colors -- I'd get them all.

Fall is just around the corner--check out the Hive & Co bags, buy a few, and you'll really have something to look forward to when the leaves start to Fall again!

Visit www.hiveandco.com for more information and ordering
Do you like this content? When it comes to Chanel's Summer 2009 collection; Côte d’Azur, I'm a bit behind in getting samples to review. But honestly, the items are so drool-worthy, so hot, these are bound to be coveted collectibles. The collection is varied and contains all the usual products for eyes and face, but the items I love the most are the six new shades of Chanel's Aqualumiere lipsticks. These moisturizing lipsticks slide on like satin and they're sheer and smooth and even better they have SPF 15 to keep your lips safe from the sun just a bit longer. For this collection, all of the shades satisfyingly compliment sunkissed skin (hopefully fake baked....).

So what's the scoop on these pretty pout-makers?

The colors are meant to flatter sunkissed skin, but they're all very sheer. That means you can wear any of them and feel good about it. But the colors do come in warm and cool shades, so you can find the tones that flatter you the most:

Ischia: A rose violet with glints of gold shimmer that flatter like a berry wash, not too harsh or deep.

Monte Carlo: This is a sheer, warm peach. It looks fairly intense in the tube, but it goes on almost as sheer as a tinted lip balm.

Lipari: A creamy, sheer, medium rose that is universally flattering. Just enough color for a dressy but not overdone lip look.

Porto Rotondo: this sheer, shimmery red is best worn, I think, as a swipe of cheery lip stain, but you can build the color quite a bit to make this more bold.

Panarea: a sheer, cool-toned, creamy mauve with just a hint of shimmer

Salina: this is a barely-there nude that is perfect when you really don't want to wear color, but you do want the merest hint of moist tint to keep your lips hydrated and pouty. You could actually use this one as a base for a deeper color, too.

And what if you just crave lip gloss? Not to worry, Chanel's Summer Collection features four Aqualumiere Glosses. At $27.00 each they're a bit of a splurge, but these wanded glosses give you the "wow!"factor with super-shine, silky, sexy, luxurious, long-lasting color, shimmer and a wanded tube with brush instead of sponge for more intense, precise application. It is hard to just get one:

What will you crave? Apparently, they had a shared vision of spices that would stay fresh, as well as orderly, on their shelves. Together, they created a most unusual company, TSP Spices. They now offer individual spices and spice gift sets (without additives or fillers) with a difference. These TSP spices are individually packaged in tear-open packettes to preserve real freshness, in teaspoon measures. You always have what you need, but you won't have to buy an entire bottle of a spice that just sits and spoils because you don't normally use enough of it. What's more, the spices are packed a dozen individual servings in a silvery tin, so you can stack them on your shelf without having to deal with different sized containers. Now that's, organization!

I was introduced to TSP Spices at the Holiday Gift fair at the Marriott in Times Square in May. The company was promoting spices as gifts for the holidays, but I think a gift of spice is such an appropriate gift right now, and for so many reasons. Here's a photo of their display, but I couldn't wait to share this "spice find" with you!

For Father's Day, for example, a spice set is an affordable, unique gift that he won't return. So many men are into cooking (or at least taking charge of the backyard grill), a gift set from TSP Spices would make a great father's day gift. One set I really like is this Sun Shine Set $16.00. A dozen, individual, packettes of orange zest and lemon zest, good for barbecues and drinks, are beautifully packed in their silvery tins, and then nestled into a hard-sized, brown cardboard presentation box with white trim. How many times have you read a recipe that called for orange or lemon zest, and you didn't didn't have the fruit on hand? Now you'll never have to run out for a lemon (or an orange) at the last minute. Other sets for Dad that I like include the Sweet Heat Set $16.00 tin each of Anco Chili Pepper and true cinnamon, and the Herb Sampler $16.00 , with four teaspoon packettes of six organic herbs: basil, dill weed, tarragon, thyme, oregano and rosemary.

A more extravagant and very impressive gift set (for the holidays to come--they'll be here before we know it) is the Set For The Holidays, an organic spice extravaganza featuring 72, one-teaspoon packettes of holiday-centric spices in six silvery tins. They're all nestled into a slide open, hard-sided, brown cardboard presentation box with white trim. You get "Cookie Jar" with 4 true cinnamon, 2 cardamom, 2 ginger, 1 lemon and 1 orange zest. Let the cookie fun, begin!
"Peace of the Pie" has 3 packettes of ginter, 3 Korintje cinnamon, 2 anise seed, 2 nutmeg, 1 allspice and 2 cardamom for holiday pies. "Bird in Hand" features 5 safe, 4 thyme, 2 rosemary, and 1 marjarom perfect for the turkey of your dreams, while "Roast to Roast" perks up holiday roasts with packettes of 3 orange zet, 2 ancho chili pepper, 2 corriander, 2 rosemary 2thyme, and 12 allspice. You also get "Game Day Chili" with packettes of 3 cumin, 3 mild chili pepper, 2 ancho chili pepper, 2 oregano, 1 fennel and 1 karintje cinnamon. And no holiday would be complete without classic, mulled cider. You also get "Mull this Over" with enough spice packettes for a punchbowl or two: 3 orange zest, 3 true cinnamon, 2 cardamom, 2 lemon zest, 1 allspice, and 1 clove. You also get 18 recipies! What a fabulous idea. At just $42.00 it is an absolute steal! There are enough spices in this gift set to last way past the holidays depending upon how much time you're spending in the kitchen.

Give yourself a little gift and get some of the individual spice tins for yourself. If you want to outfit your entire spice cabinet, Get the entire sit of individual tins with a dozen packettes of each spice for $125.00. You'll get: Allspice, Ancho Chili, Anise Seed, Basil, Mild Chili Pepper, Cloves, Coriander, Cumin, Dill Weed, Fennel Seed, Ginger, Cardamom, Korintje Cinnamon, Lemon Zest, Marjoram, Nutmeg, Orange Zest, Oregano, Rosemary, Sage, Tarragon, Thyme, True Cinnamon, and Tumeric.

Even if you're not in the market for spices right now, go to the TSP spices web site for all sorts of recipes that use a specific spice. For example, I found this recipe for Spiced Nuts using "Ancho Chili":

Spiced Nuts

1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
2 cups raw pecans (or almonds, or any other nut)
1 egg white, lightly beaten
1/4 cup sugar
1 packet tsp spices Organic Korintje Cinnamon (cassia, ground)
1 packet tsp spices Organic Ancho Chile (ground)
1 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 300 degrees

Lightly grease cookie sheet with oil . Mix almonds and egg whites together and stir to coat. Drain in a colander. In a zip lock bag, mix sugar with salt and spices. Add almonds to plastic bag and shake to coat. Spread nuts in a single layer on cookie sheet and roast 40-45 minutes.

Let cool, then enjoy! Note: If you like more spice flavor, use 2 packets each of cinnamon and chile. These freeze very well

Any or all of these spices would also make a unique idea of a gift for a couples shower, or get a tin of something special for your weekend host or hostess this Summer. visit www.tspspices.com to everything they offer.
Do you like this content? They were there to showcase Summer hair color trends. You can check the post out in The Advice Sisters Blog archives

We got information about the new, Redken Blonde Glam collection, featuring products that protect and correct blonde colors with in-salon treatments and at-home maintenance. He told us that Blonde hair has specific needs, can be fragile, and is more sensitive to light that can change and fade the color. Blonde hair also tends to be dry, and can look a bit dull since it's less reflective. The new blonde glam products contain good-for-your-(blond)-hair ingredients that moisturize, protect, and boost shine!

Although some of the products in the Blonde Glam line are for salon use, two new ones that are for consumers with blonde hair for at-home use are the Blonde Glam Perfect Platinum (for ultra-pale to light blonde hair or highlights) that works to keep blonde hair beautiful, not brassy; and the Blonde Glam Rich Vanilla (for warm blonde hair or highlights to keep them on tone). These conditioning products have color enhancers, so they help keep your color looking vibrant but not brassy, between in-salon visits. You can use these 1-2 times a week as needed. Apply it for three minutes (or up to five) depending upon how much color deposit and deep conditioning you want.

Redken's exclusive Interbond Conditioning System and Crystal Shine Complex have antioxidant rich grape seed oil to detangle and deeply condition, while helping to keep color true. Other key ingredients include: Mica (helps blonde hair, gleam); Protein (builds strength), and grapefruit extract (improves color clarity).

Both the Blonde Glam Perfect Platinum and Blonde Glam Rich Vanilla are $17.00 8.5 fl. oz. So many candles features just "fruits" or "flowers," and they just don't have the right feel for a guy's sensibilities" One home fragrance collection that does, is The WOODS perfumed Candle Tin $12.00 5 oz. by Hill House Naturals. This is one of those rare scents that everyone will like. Hillhouse Naturals is a family owned business that began in 1986 and is focused on eco-friendly practices and products.

The generously-sized, silvery tin with "craft paper" label on the top is unisex, but the fragrance feels fresh and sexy, like "days spent hunting and gathering in the winter forest." You immediately smell lovely, aromatic woods and moss that make you feel like you've been "hunting and hiking in the forest." The actual top notes are bergamot, grapefruit peel and tangerine, on a rich wood base of vetiver, Spanish moss, oak wood, teakwood and earthy patchouli. It is an uplifting, fresh fragrance that I think will please young and old, and men as well as women.

If you like the WOODS collection, there are also candles and votives with the WOODS scent, along with Potpourri, sachets, refresher oil, drawer liners, fragrance mist, and my favorite, an Oil diffuser $42.00 that will scent your room with the woodsy scent, for weeks. Just put the slim, bamboo reeds into the bottle of scented oil. Wait 24-48 hours for the reeds to absorb the oil and diffuse the scent. Flip the reeds every couple of day, and sit back and enjoy the WOODS scent throughout your room! TIP: put one in your guest bathroom or bedroom as a welcome touch for guests. Just one might last all Summer long.

Visit http://www.hillhousenaturals.com/ for more of the lovely, Hill House Naturals home scent collections, and also for purchasing information.
Do you like this content? These amazing shoes by Raphael Young won. Tina Aldatz (President of Foot Petals), presented this award. This shoe will be created as a limited edition to be sold exclusively at Verve. Tina will be designing the inner part of the show shoe (thanks to Foot Petals) so it feels as good to walk in, as it looks. The Advice Sisters reviewed a number of Foot Petals products in November 2007 and also in 2005. They really help make walking in any type of shoe, more comfortable, but especially when you're wearing high heels. Tina told me that she injured the bottoms of her feet when she was a child, and used this as a motivation to create padding for feet that would work in dress shoes and pumps. She told me she had several different Foot Petals products in her very strappy and high heels. She stood on them all night and still had a smile on her face -- these foot pads, work!

One person I recognised at the cocktail reception was fashion stylist Phillip Bloch. He was so gracious to me back in 2008 when he asked me to take a photo with him at the Evenings in Vogue Event, and he was just as nice, this time.

What struck me as the evening progressed, was how important recognition and incentives are to designers who might have tons of talent, but not a lot of money. Unlike many awards shows where the recipients are blase, the winning designers literally burst with pride and excitement as their names were announced. It was really great to see. A great way to launch a career, and I can't wait to see some of the designs, for sale! Check out all the designs of the finalists, Which ones do you like the best?
Do you like this content? The company was named after George Crabtree and John Evelyn. John Evelyn was a 17th century Englishman most famous for the first important conservation literature, Sylva diary. It only seems appropriate that this company with good-for-your-skin, beautifully scented and packaged products is the place to go when you're looking for something that's not the same-old, same-old.

Here are some suggestions for Fathers Day and beyond that he will actually use and appreciate:

Every guy showers (at least occasionally). One of the most budget-minded gifts that still gets points with dad is a special soap. The Uncharted Exfoliating Body Bar $12.50 7 oz. is a great choice. This oatmeal-colored bath and body bar exfoliates has coconut shell powder to exfoliate gently *guys get dry, itchy, dull skin and dead skin cells, too. The soap also conditions with hemp oil and naturally deodorizes skin with the crisp and uplifting scent of ozone, juniper, citrus, pale woods and fresh green mosses. The soap is nicely packaged in a sea-blue and brown printed with nautical maps.
For a bit more, you can gift him with a classic scent with the refreshing scent of lime: Crabtree & Evelyn's West Indian Lime Cologne $40.00 3.4 fl. oz. This fragrance works day or evening, and blends classic citrus notes of lime, lemon, orange flower, and vetiver with nutmeg, ginger, coriander and a woody accord of juniper, cedar and sandalwood. The packaging features a brown box rimmed with a zig-zag, lime colored pattern and a picture of shipping in the Caribbean (in the very "old days"). The design was inspired by original artwork found in the Crabtree & Evelyn archives. I have always liked citrus, especially lime because it's uplifting. Lime blended with citrus and spice is very nice, and there's that manly drydown of woods that makes it acceptably sexy for day or work. The bottle is a clear "flask" with black top covering the spray diffuser, with the same etching from the box on the front. You can't go wrong.
Most men by now know that it's important to wear sun screen, but they won't go out and buy it, and really don't like to wear products designed with a formula meant for girls. One that's just for him, is Naturals Solutions for Men Daily Face Shield with SPF 15 $25.00 3.4 fl. oz. This 2-in-1 moisturizer and sunscreen shields a man's skin against environmental damage, while conditioning and hydrating it. Natural botanicals, anti-aging peptides, and antioxidant-rich Tocotrienol moisturize, and mineral-based UVA and UVB sunscreen help to prevent the sun's rays from damaging his skin. In addition, purifying and skin conditioning essential oils are included to refresh and replenish. You know he won't buy it for himself, so pamper him and keep his skin safe. This classy gift is one he can't refuse to use! The scent free lotion comes in a great, brown plastic bottle that looks like it should hold a potion or a bottle of fine vanilla. The label reminds me of an old-time apothecary. The bottle is small enough to pop into a gym tote or pocket. It definitely radiates a "cool" factor. Key sun protecting ingredients include 4.5 % titanium Dioxide and 1.5% zinc oxide.
Nomad Shaving Cream $25.00 5.3 oz. is a rich, luxe, skin-conditioning shave cream in a jar. This isn't just any old soap! This semi-solid shave cream is enriched with Vitamin E and blended with natural extracts to provide a smooth have that leaves his skin feeling ultra smooth and protected from razor burn. The amber-colored jar and cool label looks enticing, but it's the bold, refreshing scent of ginger, citron and green bamboo that will get him. It smells spicy and intoxicating, and really sexy. Guys who shave every day need a break from the ho-hum. This shaving cream makes the routine, fun. No man should have to be without Nomad!

Crabtree & Evelyn is available online and in more than 40 countries, with over 6,000 locations and 350 concept stores worldwide. It's as easy as ordering online! Beauty Fix is a subscription -based beauty sampling program that selects product (a panel of beauty experts) thinks you would like to try. For $50 each quarter, you receive a box filled with full size and travel-sized samples of a variety of products.

I was asked to try the service. Overall, I was impressed with the variety and the quality. These aren't drug store brands (nothing wrong with those, but it's the more unique, boutique brands that make it into the Beauty Fix kits). My kit included eight items, mostly full-sized:

Bella Bronze Olive Oil & Shea Butter Tan Extender

Kerstin Florian Spa Face Aromatherapy Neroli Water

"M" Cream by 3 Lab

i-Divine Eyecolor by Shalini Vadhera

Exuviance Rejuvenating Treatment Masque

Lisa Hoffman Night & Day Vitamins C & C Serum

Glowelle (beauty beverage) Powder 7-day supply

Jonathan High Shine Hair Spray

Is the $55.00 price tag a bargain, or a sucker's deal? As with most kits, the advantage of having someone else do the leg work is just the first part of the bargain. The second is that kits tend to be less expensive and give you the opportunity to try things you might love, but didn't want to pay full retail for right away. So yes, the kit is definitely worth the cost-- even if you don't love everything in it. In fact, The Advice Sisters have reviewed a few of these items already in my What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review column (visit our archives to find the reviews). I know what many of these products cost, retail. For example, I am absolutely wild about Lisa Hoffman's luxe skincare products. The full sized serum that arrived in my Beauty Fix kit costs $55.00, alone!

Also included with the Beauty Fix kit was a nice, zippered makeup travel tote, and there was information about the products, so you know what's in them and how to use them. If you like to be interactive, you can also order products at a discount and take part in reviews and forums on the Beauty Fix website.

All in all, I was very impressed. There were some products I never would have considered if they hadn't been in this kit. The only thing I would like to have had with the kit was the option to choose items based on my age and interests.

If you spend more than $200.00 each year on makeup items you'd like to try, you'll be very enthusiastic about Beauty Fix. That's still a lot of money for the average woman to handle. On the other hand, if you spend that much on non-essential items, anyway, Beauty Fix is a way to look better, feel better, and get a great bargain!

Do you like this content? But these eco-friendly products do something I really love -- they help you maintain longer lasting hair color, thanks to Pureology's AntiFade Complex. The gentle formulas, with organic botanicals and other good-for-your hair ingredients, leave your hair shiny and soft, and protected. he company doesn't test on animals, and the scents they use are always light and pleasant. But this isn't just any same-old, same-old lip product. This one features Hoodia, a known appetite suppressant. That might just offer some hope to those who want to help keep their lips lovely, and their thighs, thinner. The lip gloss also has Vitamin B (to plump lips) natural lipids, meadowfoam and lemon peel oil, to hydrate and soothe, no parabens, a moist, long-lasting formula, and it will help diminish the appearance of tiny lines and lip wrinkles. Pretty nifty!!!!

At first it sounds a bit crazy--a lip gloss that can help you curb your appetite. But then it makes sense. After all, think about how often you lick your lips. The average woman eats about 6 pounds of lip gloss in her lifetime, so if you're going to ingest lip product, why not make it something that can help you instead of harm you?

So what's Hoodia, and why could this plant potentially provide hope for slimmer hips? Here's part of Wikipedia's description: Hoodia (pronounced /ˈhʊdiːə/) is a genus of 13 species in the flowering plant family Apocynaceae, under the subfamily Asclepiadoideae.[1] They are stem succulents, described as "cactiform" because of their remarkable similarity to the unrelated cactus family. They can reach up to 1m high and have large flowers, often with tan colour and strong smell.Several species are grown as garden plants, and one species, Hoodia gordonii, is being investigated for use as an appetite suppressant.[2] "In the last few years, hoodia has been heavily marketed for weight loss and has becom e immensely popular....."

There has been a lot of hype about Hoodia. The Hoodia Gordonii herb grown mainly in Africa is unlike any other supplement on the market. Unlike diet stimulants like Ephedra and Phenfen (now banned because of dangerous side effects), Hoodia isn't a stimulant. Scientists say it fools the brain by making you think you’re full, even if you've eaten just a morsel.

Who but a true fashionista could think of a lip gloss as a magic weapon for weight management?! We can thank Karen Robinovitz for the idea. She dreamed of applying a sexy lip gloss can before the cocktails and hors d'oeuvres so maybe, just maybe, she could resist the urge to eat and imbibe too much. Or maybe, once she found her perfect lip gloss formula (and it is fabulous), she just didn't see the point in messing up her tinted, glossy, sexy lips with food and drink!

Whether Huge Lips, Skinny Hips actually helps you lose weight or not, you can love it on it's merits as a lip product. It's honestly a fantastic lip gloss. The colors are Robinovitz's homage to her favorite icons and philosophies. There's "Red Sole" (in homage to the red so (le of the Lamboutin heels), "Love your Thighs" ( a flirty coral), "Lychee Martini" (frothy peach), "No Panty Lines" (shiny clear), "Kitty Poledancer" (her nickname--a soft nude) and my favorite: "Worship Kate," in homage to Kate Moss. This one is a gorgeous, glittery, pink that Ms. Moss would surely love (if she isn't using it already).

I can't promise you that you will be bikini-worthy just by wearing lip gloss, but the good news is that your lips will look great no matter what shape you are in. And still, perhaps, with a swipe of this particular lip gloss wand you will win the battle of the bulge. Look good, and you'll win BIG no matter what size you are.

Visit: http://www.purplelabnyc.com/ to see where you can buy Huge Lips, Skinny Hips in your neck of the woods.
Do you like this content?
