Esther Nash Spring 2010 Runway Show BK Fashion WeekEnd

Fashion Week in Manhattan is over, but our City is made up of Five Boroughs, and in Brooklyn, talented designers are still showing their Spring 2010 collections. Last night in Brooklyn's Fort Greene area, a fashionable crowd (including designer Malan Breton and Loris Diran) gathered to see some of what Brooklyn's fashion stars have to offer.

One of the designers who showed a collection on the runway last night was the beautiful and talented Esther Nash. She's the sort of woman who can do so many things well, but fashion is her passion. Esther is a graduate of the prestigious, Art and Fashion school of New York City. Her signature is a unique, hand-decorated line of primarily denim-centric, sophisticated, hip, and wearable clothes called Baby Doll Sugar Daddy. The inexhaustible Nash designs jewelry, accessories and clothing, while also working as a model and actress! Esther began owning and operating her own fashion retail stores when she was still just a teenager, her designs have been featured in her own, and in dozens of other runway shows around the Country. Her fashions have also been featured on the HBO series Sex and the City.

Esther's focus for last season's BK Fashion WeekEnd in April 2009 featured body-baring clothes and jeweled headbands. But for this season, Esther's focus was on a Boho-denim look, paring specially-knit, fringed ponchos in bright colors, with denim jeans and skirts. As you can see from the photos, these are clothes that are stylish, but you can wear them without feeling like a couture fashion victim. Ponchos and uniquely decorated jeans and jean skirts are a must-have in every wardrobe, but Esther Nash knows how to make these staples new and exciting, with applique and screened logo details, plus a bit of bling. Nash's Baby Doll Sugar Daddy clothing line flatters everyone from working women, to socialites and celebrities, or any woman who just likes to dress like a star and be noticed.

The ponchos add a colorful touch to everything-- just throw on on and you have an instant update in your wardrobe! Plus, ponchos have the added advantage of being warm as well as wonderfully chic. The ponchos in Esther Nash's Collection featured luxe touches such as long fringes, and touches of fur.

Check out the Esther Nash Web Site: http://www.esthernash.com/ as she is truly a rising star! If you don't live in NYC you can always shop for Esther's unique designs, online: Esther Nash Baby Doll Sugar Daddy Store: www.esthernash.com/shop.php

After her runway show, Esther Nash watched the other designer's shows, and shared a laugh with Shelly Nash, her model-worthy sister (can you believe it? Gorgeous Shelly is not just a publicist for her sister, Esther, she's a lawyer and a New York judge)@ Mother Dorothy Nash sits proudly between her talented daughters.

Brooklynites like to show their love and make some noise! Young performers offering a variety of musical styles representing the borough’s diverse sounds, included this amazing, 13 year old boy whose rap "Don't Look At My Mom" nearly brought the house down!

This lovely young model strutted her stuff with attitude down the runway and for the photographers. Watch for her in a few years on the cover of Vogue...she's going to be a star!

Esther Nash Hosts An Art/Fashion Event at the Serrano Contemporary Sonnet Gallery

Esther Nash is a beautiful person, inside and out. Some women really do have it all -- talent, personality, beauty, and the ability to light up a room. Esther is that type of woman -- the genuine article--rare in our world full of "faux."

Tonight, the incredibly talented actress/model/fashion designer/socialite/artist/stylist had an art installation/exhibit at the Serrano Contemporary Sonnet Gallery (547 W. 27th street 5th Floor).

Invited guests, and the media mingled at the gallery, while enjoying a well curated exhibit of Ms. Nash's fashion illustrations featuring her 2009 line of Rock Star Glam Wear. Ms. Nash stand in front of a collage of denim designs decorating one large wall, and there was also this statement piece: "prisoner of Fashion" featuring Ms. Nash's own designs. Esther told me that she is busy working in television as well as modeling, designing jewelry (the green necklace I am wearing in the photos below, are Esther Nash originals) and of course, working on her fashion designs. She also finds time to attend Fashion Week.

And she's a cover girl now, too! Esther proudly stands with her first magazine cover for EXO Limited, with Lisa Garcia, President of the magazine. EXO is a new, exciting magazine for Latinas with information about a wide variety of subject of interest to women everywhere. My flash bounced off the cover photo, but Esther looks amazing in it!

Witty Willow!

Australian designer Kit Willow certainly can wear her own funky and youthful fashions. At her own show for Fall 2008, she wore a simple, navy dress with a bright green scarf. Her sassy designs for Fall 2008 are anything but simple--they're artfully expensive--meant for young ladies who can afford luxury and craftsmanship but definitely do not want to dress in their mother's designer duds.

Willow paired "Newton-esque," thigh-high, stiletto leather boots with just about everything, even satiny, strapless, corseted, studded, and laced-up "party" dresses. And, with shoes, the opaque tights that have paraded down runways all week long. These give a lolng, lean look to legs, so that's a plus for those who want to wear short hemlines but have less than great looking gams. The fitted leather jackets with punk rock style, the laces and studs looked a bit rough and "rocker chick" but yet, still very feminine. And, there was a profusion of pleaing, beautifully-tailored separates and dresses that looked expensive, fresh and modern. I particularly liked the copper-studded dresses in Autumnal copper, and also this dress in bright, burnt orange. And, the loose but beautifully-fitted pants wide hems almost wide enough to be Palazzo pants were as elegant as Katherine Hepburn's in the 40's. . Some of my favorite styles were satiny, modestly to-the-knee dresses with twisted bodices that reminded me of artfully wrapped gift boxes.
Hair was created by Remya Xydis for GHD and consisted of a sleek, mid-high ponytail for most of the models, a sleek bob or short style for the others. The very talented makeup artist, Ayako, created the makeup for NARS. Creative nail Design did the manicures.
After the Willow show ended, I spied Esther and Shelly Nash in the front row, and they posed for this photo. Esther and Shelly have been at many shows this season, and are quite popular with the paparazzi.

Esther Nash Spring 2008 Fashion Presentation at Eli Klein Fine Art

Celebrity Designer & Model Esther Nash is a rising star who has a level head, a smile on her face, and a generous heart. Despite her skyrocketing success, fame hasn't changed her. Esther Nash told me that the Art installation at the gallery was Shelly's idea. Dorothy Nash, Esther's mother, was Valentine's Day ready, wearing red and pink. Dorothy is graciously posing with some of the Esther Nash sccessories on display. The Advice Sisters have reviewed Mws. nash's fashions and jewelry in the What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion Review Columns. We hope to include more of her creations in future columns.

..... I'm posing with Esther Nash, wearing a group of charm necklaces that reflect my travels. Esther invited me to the after-party at the Star Lounge, organized by Coordinator Jeff Kraus. Alas, I really couldn't go. Fashion Week is beginning and I had to get some beauty sleep!

Esther Nash's Party at CAIN Nightclub

Last night, beauty editors, stylists, models, photographers, family and friends attended a party for Esther Nash at the CAIN nightclub on 27th Street and the West Side. This super-hot nightclub has an African safari theme, akin to an African game lodge. You'll get the idea when you spot the amazing, zebra hide bar and large wood pillars draped in imported African beads. The "wildest animals" you'll see here are likely to be of the fashionable kind, well-dressed celebrities, looking to dance the night away in an exclusive atmosphere, without being "shot" at (unless that's what they want).

Multi-talented Esther Nash is a fashion and jewelry designer, stylist, commentator and actress/model. Here, Esther models two of her own jewelery designs, jade necklaces with sterling accents. The AdviceSisters will be reviewing a number of Esther Nash jewelry designs in our November and December What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review columns *watch for them the first week of each month. Esther Nash designs are investment pieces that will work with everything in your wardrobe, and they're all one-of-a-kind.

I am in the middle of this photo, flanked by the hosts of the party: Esther's talented sister, Shelly Nash, is on the left, and on the right, Esther Nash is wearing her own beautiful, triple-strand amethyst necklace.

In this photo, you just about make out my unique red and black jet earrings --they are also Esther Nash originals.

The action doesn't really get started at Cain until after midnight, but soon, the dance floor heated up. Everyone had a great time chatting and dancing!

Talk Show Host TV Personality Cognac Wellerlane is sharing a laugh with Esther Nash. Cognac is famous for her upswept hairstyle and sparkling personality. You can view Cognac's television show, “Cognac’s Corner” on Manhattan Time Warner Cable Channel 34.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2007-Akiko Ogawa

Later in the day, I went to the Akiko Ogawa runway show in the tents. I got there early, and saw my friend Ester Nash on line for another show. How nice to see her! She's such a lovely woman.

As I was checking in for Akiko Ogawa, I ran into another person I know--Steven Bender. He now has his own PR company and is doing lots of interesting things. We had time to catch up for a few minutes. He's one of the "nice guys," too.

But on to the show: the theme is "the masculine look of a British rock star softened into feminine form and laced with elements of 'wabi sabi' (the distinctily Japanese aesthetic of refined rusticity and elegant simplicity considered the highly prized qualities in the traditional arts).

To break that down, the clothes were a mixture of punk bluntness, and soft silk kimono..a perfect fusion of Japanese downtown girls, with geisha elements. Scottish tartan (mostly with green and blue) showed up in pleated skirts, paired with rock-star black.

The audience and the clothes seem "youthful" but in truth, I could see nearly anyone taking pieces from the 39 pieces shown in this collection and making them work. There were skinny pants, mostly in black, along with charcoal gray, but there was some color. The pink used as accents apparently was inspired by the flower of the peony tree. One of the most beautiful pieces was a deep pink kimono tunic, worn with a low-slung Swarovski crystal studded belt. The most beautiful pieces were these silky kimono-styles, worn as dresses and tunics. The models seemed to float down the runway in these. I liked the oversized obi" type sashes that added a distinctly Japanese flair. I also particularly liked a black cropped "military" type jacket with large crystal "buttons" that added sparkle, and some of the jackets and sweaters with faux-fur trim. To add that punk attitude, a variety of platform black leather shoes prevailed. Add a chunky boot to a tartan skirt and you've got just the right mix.

The collection is fun, eye catching, and a welcome relief from the austere. Noda Norikata at MAO did strong, smoky eyes and pale faces. Hair, from Dennis Lanni for Bumble & Bumble was stark -- a sort of modern Louise Brooks short black bob with thick bangs for most of the models. This added a distinct rock star meets the East sensibility that went well with the clothes.
