The Advice Sisters - "My First Time' Project, 2009

There is a "first time" for everything.  I'm asking you to share a recollection about the first time you tried something.  It can be about the first time you did something challenging in your field, or in your life.  Think about what things challenged you.  Perhaps the first time you applied makeup, or made a speech, or asked someone to dance, or traveled solo, or maybe it's the first time you tried skydiving!  No experience is too insignificant!

This is for a special project that I hope will empower people who timid about moving ahead with a challenge in their lives and careers.  This is the Internet, so I don't want to give it all away up front, but I'm hoping this will become a published article, perhaps, more.  This is such a depressing time in our history for so many. Demonstrating to others that we all have some anxiety about doing something new but we can do it anyway, even if we don't actually succeed with flying colors at first, can really help others.  Submit as many recollections as you can and don't worry about writing too much -- I know how to edit!   Thank you in advance for your participation--Alison

Now, please share what it felt like?  Scary/ exciting? Didn't even think about it, just did it?  Were you successful the first time or was it a mixed success, or a disaster?  What did you learn from the experience? Was this first experience something that spurred you on to do something similar or different?
