OLYMPUS FASHION WEEK SPRING 2007-TIBI RUNWAY SHOW By Alison Blackman Dunham aka " Advice Sister Alison"

You can read all my posts about Fashion Week and the various designers whose shows I attended, on my BLOG at: http://www.advicesisters.net/advicesistersblog/ but I have also put together my personal comments, comments from the hair and makeup professionals, my own personal photos, plus more comments in my first-ever podcasts for Advice Sisters® readers!  This page is about the TIBI Runway Show for Spring 2007 and includes a detailed description of the products used on the models, plus a do-it-yourself guide to create the same look, at home.

Lead Makeup Artist Ayako from NARS applies makeup for the TIBI Runway Show, Olympus Fashion Week Spring 20007
Backstage prior to the TIBI runway show, I gulped a few sips of coffee and got my voice recorder ready to speak to Ayako, the International Makeup Artist for NARS. She told me the idea for the TIBI show makeup was "Charlie’s Angels’s Jacqueline Smith, since she was the "angel" who had beauty, but also, strength and presence. Here is a photo of Ayako working on one of the models.
*to hear Ayako talk about the concept in her own works, listen to Alison's Podcast from backstage!

The Finished Look (all NARS products). As you can see, the look is fresh and youthful (as are TIBI's clothes) but also just a bit retro, too.  As you can see from the photo, the makeup is light and glowing, with a lot of shimmer on eyes and a hint of shimmer on the cheeks. Ayako didn’t use foundation (or at least, not much) because all of the models are so young, with naturally fresh looking skin. Ayako did use a bit of NARS Aqua Gel Hydrator moisturizer first on their faces to get the dewy look, going. Ayako also used a bit of black eye liner and black mascara, but not too much. All the models wore a sheer nude beige lipstick called "Belle de Jour" – already a popular color available now in the NARS collection. If this "no lipstick" color is too light for you, I’d suggest an overlay of one of the NARS beautiful, sheer glosses perhaps in a pink or peach. See below for all of the products used...you can do this look yourself!

Here's how to re-create the look yourself (courtesy of NARS Cosmetics):

Face:  Create a smooth base for color with NARSskin hydrating moisture cream· ·    Apply a small amount of NARSskin nourishing eye cream around the temples ·    Apply a small amount of NARSskin aqua gel hydrator to the entire face for a dewy finish ·    Skin should be glowing and transparent--use NARS Concealer only if necessary ·    Add a natural flush to cheeks with NARS Cream Eyeshadow in Petula (NEW, Summer ’07) blended on cheekbones with a finger; pat a tiny bit of Petula on the ball of nose for a touch of color  ·    Brush NARS Blush in Orgasm lightly on the temple and around orbital bone ·       Tap a small amount of aqua gel hydrator over Orgasm for added texture and shine ·       Finish with a light dusting of NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna on forehead, temple, across the bridge of the nose and chin.

Eyes: Apply the quartz side of NARS Duo Cream Eyeshadow in Madagascar (NEW, Summer ’07) on lid, from lash line to crease ·         Apply the charcoal plum side of NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Habanera (NEW, Spring  ’07) on top of Madagascar ·         Eyebrows should be nicely shaped—outline and shape with NARS Eyebrow Pencils in Jodhpur , Ipanema or Panama ·         With a light touch and a soft, big brush, highlight the browbone with the apricot side of NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Sugarland (NEW, Spring 2007) ·         Line inside rim of top and bottom lash lines with NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Black Moon; blend with a finger to pull color into lash line and make sure color gets in between eyelashes ·         Thicken eyelashes with NARS Mascara in Black Orchid on top and bottom; work from the roots up to coat eyelashes.

Lips:   Keep lips matte with a layer of NARS Lipstick in Belle de Jour

I also spoke to AVEDA's lead stylist Alain Pichon. He told me the "story" he created for the hair went like this:  "A lovely young woman gets ready to go out on the town and has her hair done, but the next morning, her hair is a bit messier, but still pretty."  I had to admit, the story really seemed to go with the spirit of TIBI's collection. The Hair was kept close to the head (using lots of large clips, and Aveda's Pure Abundance Hair Spray) but the bottom part of the hair was anything but flat....the stylists made it bouncy and full of volume. On the runway, this looked worked incredibly well, giving the girls hair that moved, but was still controlled and shiny. Sleek and yet, romantic. Here are two girls in the early stages of having this look created.

I was surprised that in every show, the models have their hands and feet manicured (makes sense, when you realize they're going to be under scrutiny from head to toe on the runway).  Manicures featured products for Creative Nail Design, in French pink or beige, with a sparkling overlay of iridescent gold  (see third bottle from left, top row) that probably no one could really see from their seats, but it's beautiful up close...you'll want it come Spring 2007 (sorry ladies, not available until then).

And the show? I got a good seat which allowed me to really appreciate, up-close-and-personal,  just how all the work that goes on backstage (not to mention for months before the show) fits in with what the audience experiences.  Most of the clothes were young and breezy, with short, loose, swing-y dresses and tops. I personally liked the wide legged pants with a tunic made shapely with a wide belt (photo left), but there were lots of romantic dresses, mostly swing-y and mini, but a few that were knee-length or below that would work, even in an office. There were lots of items in Springtime fabrics that appear light and that move with the body:  chiffon, light cotton, and silk, and while there was a lot of ivory and navy and black, there were also some bold brights and floral pattners . Chunky strapped platform sandals in wood and natural leather, walked the walk.
