This winter holidays are the best time to try new trends and treat yourself to
a glamorous new look. If you're budget-minded, the good news is that many
companies are offering great values in face-in-a-case kits and gifts. Make
a statement by focusing on one particular feature. Love your lips? Play them
up with deep reds or super-shiny or shimmery sheers. Are your eyes your best feature?
Add the surprise of a brightly colored liner or a metallic shadow. Shimmer
your shoulders, or your hair with any one of a host of products from glitter to
shimmery body creams. The colors-of-the-moment are berries, pale neutrals,
and lots of shimmer, pearls, metallics and glitter. They are sure to make
your holidays merry and bright! HOLID-IZE
YOUR EYES: A sheer sweep of color,
a shimmer, or deep shades reflect your mood, and, perhaps a new attitude. Here
are some great new products and colors to spiff up your eyes:
Eye pencils are an easy way to glamorize eyes.
We love them because they're easy to use and easy to tote in even the tiniest
of purses. This season, why not try Bourjois Kohl &
Contour Eye Pencils $10.00. Fifteen colors offer flexibility,
while the soft, smooth application lets even a novice look good. As a nice change
from dark liners, try a pastel such as the baby-blue #10 "Bleu Illusion"
or light pink #08 "Rose Fantasiste" or soft lilac #09 "Mauve
Intuitif" to wear as a barely-there liner, or a lid color. A quick way to
open up tired eyes is Bourjois Black & White "Noir
& Blanc" Eye Pencil $10.00, a dual-ended pencil with
white kohl to open up eyes, and black eyeliner to define them. Bourjois Liner Pinceau $15.00
for liquid liner lovers is a silky smooth, quick drying liner in six, chic colors
including green, plum and grey. It has a super-thin applicator brush that allowed
even the "all thumbs" among us to apply a decent line. M·A·C
Cosmetics. "Hollidazzle"
collection is fantastic! (photo) "Phloof!" is a strange name for a very
pretty, pearly, off-white Powder Eye Shadow $12.50 that makes
a great highlight, a base and a lid color. We also liked "Sweeten Up,"
a frosted coral/gold that works best as a subtle accent. Apply sparingly for a
bright daytime look, more, if you're going for an "80's" feel.
For liner, we love deep blue, frosty "Stroke of Midnight" or dust
a spare coating of this color over lid for serious evening drama.
Maybelline
lights up the holidays with rich colors in it's "Let's Glow"
collection. What's not to like about Maybelline? They offer trendy, flattering
colors at affordable prices that permit even the most penny-pinching woman to
pamper herself with a new look, without guilt! Particularly great for this
season is the new Roller Color Loose Powder Eye Shadow $6.50 in
"Gold Stated" which rolls on cleanly and easily, glitzing your lids
with shimmery gold .We also like the rich colors and subtle shimmer in the new,
Expert Eyes Eye Shadow Quad $6.50 "Lost Treaures."
You get a brown and burgundy, a medium taupe, and a pearly beige. Cream shadow
lovers will want to pick up a wheel or two of Color
Delights Cream Shadow $ 6.50 such as "Draped in Velvet," a
quartet of silky, creamy colors (gold, pewter, copper and maroon) with a hint
of shimmer New to our review is Cat
Cosmetics, created by actress Catherine Hickland, better known for her
work on television and in the movies for One Life to Live, Loving, The City, Texas
Airwolf, and Knight Rider, to name just a few. Everything a follows a cat
theme and the products are lighthearted in presentation with "cat" related
names, but they're also high-quality products for serious makeup fans. Her Eye
Liner/Eye Shadow Duo $22.00 in "Smoulder" is super-sexy and
tote-able. A two-in-one pen lets you apply and layer just the right amount. One
end has a metallic, bronze cream eye shadow that is applied easily with
your fingers (and it stays put!). The other end houses a classic, deep, black
eye liner pencil for sex appeal. Face
Stockholm's holiday collection, called "Reach for the Stars,"
is so glamorous, we almost put the entire collection under our "glam"
heading. Eye Dust $18.00 in "Brave" (not in photo)
gives a smoky, slightly metallic pewter hue to your lids with a finely milled
hint of glitter for subtle sparkle. Add even more drama with a basic
black Cake Eye Liner $13.00 - Yes, liner cakes are
back with new formulas that make them easier to use than ever. If you want
to pump up the glitz volume for evening, add a tiny, holographic, silvery star
on the side of your eyelid from a pot of Galaxy Stars $16.00
or the high-wattage silver glitter Galaxy ETT $16.00. Moisten
your skin, and they stay put - your own special "beauty mark." Sassy
and surprising!
Zhen
is a makeup line created with Asian skin tones in mind, but the new, Zhen
Runway Shadows Quartet $25.00 has ahimmery tones of gold, copper
and glittery, deep purple that we feel will flatter most everyone. The dramatic
purple makes a stunning eye liner, too. The presentation is stellar, too
- it's a slim, black matte compact with Chinese "Zhen"
logo, and a generously-sized mirror inside. If
you wish for long, thick, curly lashes but yours fall short, try Clinique
High Impact Mascara $13.50 and get instant gratification! This
new product, available this November, has a built-in base coat that thickens and
coats without clumping. The pigment is also high-tech, creating a more intense
color. The result are big, bold eyelashes without applying false eyelashes. For
evening drama, you'll just love it!
Sparkle
with an Apt. 5 Eye Shadow Quad $5.50 that comes in a clear lucite
square with sponge applicator. Try one, and you'll see why we are impressed with
the colors and quality of Apt. 5. You get the latest looks at
"days-gone-by prices! "QE-1" is a glittery cool-toned foursome
with bronze, brown, burgundy and ivory that are sheer enough to layer, flexible
enough to be lid or liner. Ditto "QE-2" with warm tones of
brick, khaki green, deep purple, and beige. These are limited edition through
January 2004-hurry! Estee Lauder
Artists Eye Pencil $17.50 in "Golden Starwriter" adds
a dash of gold to make your eyes pop, or use the side of the pencil as a sultry
shadow on yours lids, using the attached blending sponge. This slim, portable
pencil is the perfect addition to your make-up bag if you want just a bit
of glitz. New to our columns
is Black Up, a complete line of makeup and skincare products
for women of color. The holiday collection is an homage to precious metals. These
are really "metallic," with a definite yellow base. Still, we
found they looked nice on most of us, even with our very different skin tones.
Eyeshadow Palette #10 $35.00 is a quartet of shimmery shadows in lemon
(gold), amber, copper and bronze. Brush on a light coat to flatter your coloring,
or wear more as you like it. This is a beautiful set and Black Upa
new line worth trying! For even more glam, dust a bit of Pearl Powder
#7 $15.00 onto lids or under brows - it's will give you a shimmery golden
sparkle that is really gorgeous. New
to our reviews (but an old favorite in our hearts) is Almay. Shine
this season with Almay Bright Eyes Color Cream Shadow $5.25, a
shimmery cream in a tube that lasts and doesn't crease. We tried "Golden
Gleam" and "Mocha Shimmer." Wear these all day into your evening
holiday extravaganzas. Bright Eyes Defining Color Duo Liner $7.50
will put an extra twinkle in your eyes with this shimmering duo liner
of Brown and Peach. Rich and creamy, the
brown is perfect to line upper lashes for a dramatic look, and add the shimmer
peach in the corner of your eyes for a fresh, young look.
If youre a contact lens wearer, you'll especially love the fact that
it wont irritate your eyes. Brush Bright Eyes Mascara $7.50 onto
lashes to complete a glamorous holiday look. The
triple lifting brush makes it easier than ever to open up eyes, and reduce lash
clumping, and the tapered brush shape lets you color all those lower lashes, too.
Tony
& Tina's Herbal Char'Kohl Revitalizing Eye Color Pencils $16.00 come
in ten incredible, vivid colors that are sheer enough to add a little color, or
a lot. You can use it is a lid color or liner. Ancient ayuvedic techniques combine
charcoal and lots of other botanicals and good-for-your-eyes ingredients protect,
soothe, moisturize and rejuvenate as they beautify. We particularly like the jewel-toned
"Desire" (deep magenta) and "Confidence" (a teal with blue
glitter) as pretty party liners or smudged, for an overall smoky eye. Tradtionalists
will love "Progression," a deep, black and the lovely, sightly iridescent
brown "Connection" for liner or lids. Tina
Earnshaw developed her own makeup line to give celebrities the chic looks
they crave. Get a marvellous Eyeshadow $18.00 in "Jet Diamond"
and you'll have an intense, dark charcoal grey liner glimmered with a hint of
silver sparkle to make you feel like a star, too. Feeling adventurous? Lightly
layer on lids for a dramatic, deep eye look. The clear, lucite compact lets you
oogle the pretty products, inside. FOCUS
ON YOUR FACE: Your face
needs different products every season. In the winter, lack of sunlight,
heat, and holiday stress can make your complexion dry and pale. Here are
our recommendations for products that will improve the look and the feel of your
face now, and for months to come! If
you're looking for a new pressed powder, Tony & Tina Luna Essence
l Pressed Mineral Powder $28.00 is a great choice this season. It not
only comes in a holiday-like silvery compact, but protects your skin from pollutants
as it absorbs excess oil and evens out your complexion. Good-for-you vitamins
and other ingredients help protect, preserve and sooth skin. This is especially
important during the holiday season, when skin is exposed to lots of additional
environmental stresses. You can use the powder with the included sponge, of a
powder brush for a lighter look. You can also use this one as an eye and lip base
as well as a face powder. "Moonstruck" is light ivory, but there are
three additional shades: "Moonbeam" (porcelain), "Moonlight"
(medium) and "Moonray" (tan) - there's one for everyone. As
winter approaches if you hate to lose your summer glow but don't like the heavy
feeling of most liquid foundations, then Almay Nearly Naked Touch-Pad
Liquid Makeup $8.95 is for you. The good coverage hides little imperfections,
and the SPF 12 protects your skin whether you are on city streets or mountain
slopes. We loved the light feel, but it still
lasted all da, without touch-ups. Fresh, rosy cheeks with a delicate shimmer perk
up winter-pale complexions. Get the look with Almay Beyond Powder
Blush $8.75. The color lasts all day with no
streaking or fading, and it makes your skin look and feel so good with Vitamins
A, C, E and Aloe added to it. A great deal of beauty, for not a lot of cash. We
love the new Clarins Soft Touch Rich Compact Foundation $35.00. It
omes in a very cheery, ruby-red compact with sponge applicator. The foundation
is smooth and creamy, and yet is luxurious and long lasting. It covers
flaws, and smooth out fine lines, giving a luminous finish that looks natural.
What more could you ask? Six shades flatter most everyone.
New
and nice from Bourjois Paris is En Toute Legerete
Liquid Foundation $20.00 a nifty foundation in a portable plastic tube.
Like lingerie, it's sheer and sexy - the perfect product for a natural day evening
look and it has SPF 12 in it, too! We liked it's light texture and the way it
blended out or skin tone to make it look more even, day or evening. Better still,
the pigments reflect light and luminizes the skin. Six flexible colors from
basic ivory to medium dark tones, suit almost everyone. A lovely product
to try this season (and love through 2004). Shu
Uemura has just introduced Velvet Perfect Foundation $45.00
that, as it's name implies, is "perrection." IYou do get what
you pay for. This velvety powder foundation is asimply a wonderful product.
You get a matte finish, but it is smooth, not like a powdery mask. We don't know
how Shu Uemura does it, but this foundation covered our flaws
and still managed to look natural...and it lasted! Eight different shades
are in full matte and semi-matte finishes. We also love that it also has SPF to
protect skin from UVA damage. Aveeno
Positively Radiant moisturizers have been recommended in some of our
past reviews
, but we were happy to discover that Aveeno has even more products
containing moisture-rich soy and good-for-your-skin vitamins. If you feel like
you're too tired to wash your face after a night of holiday partying, you'll still
be motivated to do it with the Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleansing Bar
$2.99. We liked the generous size, light scent, and low price,
but also the great way it cleaned gently (without soap), leaving our skin
soft and smooth looking. For those who prefer liquids, Aveeno Positively
Radiant Cleanser $6.99 comes in a plastic bottle with a handy pump and
does the same, efficient job. It's also hypoallergenic oil-free and soap free.
Maybelline Brush
Blush $5.51 for the holidays in "Royal Blush" is a soft burgundy
that has a glittery, paisley overlay so pretty we hated to use it. This
color will be most complimentary to those who like a cool, berry-colored palette,
and it makes a festive-looking stocking stuffer, too. Credited
as the father of modern make-up, Max Factor is responsible for
inventing many key cosmetic products. Max Factor Natural Blush-on Satin
Blush $6.83 is a creamy powder that smooths on evenly with a sheer, natural
tone, and stays true to color even after a night of partying and dancing. It won't
look dry or powdery on your skin. The cost is low, but the look is definitely
"high style." "Mulberry Mauve" is a warm pinked-berry that
will coordinate beautifully with berried lips. Subtle Amber" will suit medium
deeper complexions (makes a good bronzer and contour powder, too) and "Pink
Dream" will add a pretty pink flush to paler skin. A
can of shaving cream as a gift? For sure,
if it's a special can, such as PHYTOMEN
Softening Shaving Gel $16.00. It's formulated specifically for sensitive
skin, with Centella Asiatica, known for its softening and repairing properties.
Couple this one with a beautiful new razor and you'll have a thoughtful gift that
will keep on giving long after the holidays are over Your special man will thank
you every day, with a smooth face that's protected from irritation! Face
Stockholm blushes are so chic. We just can't get enough of them.
If you'd like to warm up your skin for the holidays with a "healthy"
glow that makes you look better than bare (without anyone knowing quite why),
try the Face Stockholm Blush $16.00 called "Magic."
This amazing, warm, rosy, beige made us looks right on just about everyone.
Z. Bigatti Champagne Gel Cleanser
$65.00 is the "champagne" of cleansers. This luxe product
doesn't really contain champagne (it's actually alcohol and oil free), but it
does have a host of good-for-your-skin vitamins, antioxidants, and botanicals
to deep clean skin, protect it's essential moisture, and nourish, soften and smooth.
This cleanser has a light, clean scent, and suits all skin types. It could just
be your skin's next best friend! The prestige of the Z. Bigatti name,
coupled with this great product packaged in elegant black and gold, make it a
perfect gift, great for any woman who cares about maintaining her skin in top
condition....including you! LIPS
LIVEN ANY LOOK: Lipstick
is fun and
always makes a fashion statement. Red is always the classic look of this season,
but plums and berries are the new red. If you
don't like dark lipstick, pales are the chic alternative, or try a couple of the
news, super-shiny, super-sheer, and semi-sheer shimmer glosses that run the gamut
in price from plurge to steal! Red
is the color that evokes instant glamor, and changes your look most quickly from
day to evening. We love the new Bourjois Rouge Connection
Lipstick $14.00 "Modele #12," an amazingly color-flatters-all,
true red shiny that's just the right amount of silky, long lasting color and shine.
Glam up any lipstick with a super-shiny "wet" look (or use
gloss alone for a no makeup look) add the shimmery, slightly glittery beige
Effect 3D Lip Gloss $15.00 in #83 " Pailettes Coloric." M·A·C
Cosmetics have so many lip colors that there is at least one
in every new collection to suit every taste. From the "Holidazzle" collection
we especially like the Glaze Lipstick $14,00 "Razamatazzle"
a limited edition, very light, very frosted pink. One of the season's newest,
Oceanberry, looks very brown in the tube, but when we smoothed it on, we discovered
it has a plummy deep-rose tint that makes it a festive must for the fall/winter
season. Going to a holiday party? Top it with a little gold lip gloss it
blends, beautifully. M·A·C
Lipglass $13.50 satisfies with two
limited edition, universally flattering, sheer peach and pink shades: ""Sizzlepeach"
and "Zazoom." They deliver frosty shine, a hint of color, and a sprinkle
of multi-glitter (plus a sexy, vanilla scent). Apt.
5 Lip Gloss Quad $5.50 has four generously-sized glosses that look amazingly
like one we've seen lately from a very upscale designer. We really like the clear
lucite square, compact that lets you see exactly what's inside. A nice touch is
the enclosed mini lip brush. "QL-02" isn't a top secret code name, it's
four glosses that will suit everyone, in berry, plum, beige and rose! Giorgio Armani Lip Shimmer $21 is one
of the best glosses we've ever used. These are fabulous. They're sensuously
silky on your lips, last a long time, make lips look amazing!
Light, pearly mauve "#8" is great for pale complexions, "#6"
gives lips a deep, dramatic, slightly metallic burgundy sheen. We also liked raspberry-colored
#7 and rose #2 which crank up the glam quotient when applied over lipstick. Giorgio
Armani Shine Lipstick $21.00 is luminous and moist. Two of the newest,
which we think are best suited for deeper complexions, are #15 Dark Bordeaux"
and a limited edition "#23 Pearly Purple. "#20" an is attractive
one-color-suits all browned-red. Matte Silk Lipstick $21.00 is
elegant and long lasting. Our top choice is # 6," a raspberry/ purple with
a hint of brown that makes it right for everyone. Armani
Sheer Lipstick $21.00 is more of a lip "stain" than a gloss
or a cream. "18" gives lips a medium pink sheen that is a pretty alternative
to dark colors and shimmers. It also feels sinfully soft and moist on your lips.
Pamper yourself with one of this luxe lip products, or tuck one into a pretty
new makeup bag for a special gift.
| Tony
& Tina Lip products are great and full of good-for-you ingredients.
For a natural lip look that lasts, try Tony & Tina Lip Herbal Stain
$16.00 in one of four sheer colors. It feels like you're almost wearing
nothing at all and is a great choice when you're too busy to re-apply lipstick
often. We tried "Flattering," a brick red, but there are
three others to give a natural sexiness to your lips. Line with
Herbal Lip Pencil $16.00 "Imagine,"a dark chocolate brown or
"Fantasize" a soft pink. These are just two of ten great colors that
help play up natural lip colors, or provide a dramatic contrast. These pencils
smooth on softly and can double as an all-over matte lip color. They resist feathering
above the lip line and have good-for-you moisturizers, protectors, and soothers. Prestige
Jetstream Lip Gloss $5.95 comes in a handy, twist up
pen with attached brush. We really like Prestige. They mirror
the trends and colors of high-end designers, but for a lot less money Two holiday
glosses offer clear, high-shine, with enough gold glitter or parti-colored glitter
to give your lips the glitz treatment (but not so much glitter that you look gaudy
in the daytime). These are an affordable treat for yourself, or for stocking
stuffers. One
of the cleverest compacts we've seen in a long time is Cat Cosmetics
Lipstick $16.00. When you open the case, a mirror flips out of the side,
so you don't have to forage around in your purse! A little rhinestone holds
the clasp, giving the matte gold case a festive touch. "Hiss," is a
slightly metallic champagne on one side, with a dusting of gold on the other. We
also liked "Here Kitty," a soft berry coupled with a shimmery frost
in the same color family. Get one for yourself and a few for giving - your girlfriends
will flip when they see you using this one. Gloss-loving gals will like
the Lip Gloss Wheel $28.00, five lasting, wet-look, frosty
glosses that look good on just about everyone. These are smooth (not gloppy),
and they're long lasting.
Black
Up Lip Gloss #3 $17.50 is worth every penny - and looks like one, too!
This is a pot of super high-shine, coppery, metallic gloss so sexy we couldn't
stop applying it...and admiring ourselves in the mirror. Wear it alone if you
have pale lips, and it will astound you. It looks even better over a
red or brown lipstick! When
you don't have time to re-apply lipstick often, reach for Mary Kay Signature
Lip Polish $12.00. This little tube of intense color looks and slides
on like a lip gloss, but delivers demi-matte color that lasts without drying.
The non-shiny lip look is a nice change from all the super-glossy products this
season. If you wish, you can pump up the shine with a lip gloss for evening. There
are five pretty shades. "Red Ribbon" will flatter medium deeper complexions
with a pretty raspberry as will the brick-colored "Sweet Maple" and
pinked-brown Blushing Coquine." Lighter complexions will be flattered with
medium pink "Cider" and the lovely, browned rose "Tickled Pink" Scarlett Cosmetics is
a small, interesting cosmetics line which we are reviewing for the first time.
If all you want is one lip product to deliver sexy, shiny lips, get Scarlett
Lip Fever $20.00, a multi-tasking gloss. It comes
in a cherry red click-it "pen," which is easy to carry and it's spiked
with cinnamon and peppermint oils to tingle lips and freshen breath. Light deflecting
particles make lips look immediately better. This gloss also has the newly-patented
ingredient "Maxi Lip," that hydrates, lessens lines and furrows around
lips, and plumps lip volume up to 40% more...in just 29 days. We didn't use it
that long (yet) but we did love the way our pout looked instantly glossy,
slightly pink, shiny, and sexy. We hope to see a lot more from Scarlett! For
a fun stocking stuffer as a little treat for yourself, pick up a new, fun
and affordable Holiday Lip Kit $6.50 from the Cover Girl
Merry Cherries & Holly Berries Color Collection. A circle of colors includes
one of two sheer lip glosses and three creamy, slightly shimmery lipsticks
to wear solo or layer. They come in a cute, portable, wheel-shaped compact with
a mirror in the middle and a sponge applicator stored in it's side. There are
three different sets: Merry Cherries, Sugar Plum and we tried the "Holly
Berries" with shades of roses, raspberry and pink with a clear gloss. These
are really a fun find, with a low price that will definitely put you
in the holiday spirit. We
are sp honored that Estee Lauder has sent us products for this
review! This very popular line is always coming up with innovative products
and exciting new colors. Estee Lauder Pure Color Crystal Lipstick $22.00
in "Red Apple" is a creamy, sightly-metallic raspberry that is all you
need for an evening statement for those with very pale complexions, but pretty
at any time for those with medium to deep complexions. The gold-topped case with
square, "EL" logo sports a clear, lucite "cube" bottom that
lets you see the color without having to open the tube, and feels festive at first
glance. Add even more "ooph" to evening lip looks with a slick
of Estee Lauder Pure Color Crystal Gloss $20.00 in "Silver
Sparkle" which we loved solo, and with every single lipstick we tried from
light to dark. It's a super-shiny clear gloss infused with lots of silvery
sparkle (looks like streelights reflecting off newly fallen snow!) There is also
a Red Sparkle and Gold Sparkle. Avon
has recently introduced Mark, a new line developed specifically
for young women and primarily sold by young women. This is our first review. The
first thing you notice is that the colors and packaging are for the young (or
the young-at-jeart) and the prices are for modest budgets. However, even our more
senior reviewers liked Mark. Glass Slicker $7.50,
is a dual-sided, minty-scented, sheer lip gloss, fancifully packaged
in a lucite case the shape of a traditional tube. It comes in 15 shades. For the
holidays you can't go wrong with the maroon "Enchanted," bubble-gum
pink "Sorceress," or the subtle shimmery beige Tiara," Teens will
love the light-blue gloss called "Hex." Pretty as a jewel is Eletro-lights
Lip Vitagleam $7.50. A traditional lip gloss wand houses not-so-staid,
fruit-water inspired glosses in rainbow colors (gloss is clear on lips), along
with a distinct fruit fragrance, and good for your lips vitamins and botanicals.
It's hard to choose. Our faves were "Fuel" (valencia orange scent) and
"Unstress" (tropical fruit).
For
a beauty bargain that keeps you lips lovely, longer, try Cover
Girl The Outlast Holiday All-Day Lipcolors $9.50
in festive reds that coordinate with Cover Girl Nail Polish "Cherries Jubilee:
and "Merry Cherry." Red colors can often run, but these are built
to last - smoothing on wet, and quickly drying to a matte finish that is resistant
to food...and kisses! For a sheer look, try the "Berry Mauve"
gloss on top of your lip color or use it alone, for a soft and pretty, natural
look. GO
FOR GLAM: There's nothing quite like the
anticipation of getting ready for special event, whether it's an office party,
a gathering of family or friends, or just a simple soriee with one special someone.
Whether you are a fan of Grace Kelly's understated glamour, or go for high-powred
rock-star glitter, these suggestions will help you get your own, special
occasion look together: We
love loose, shimmery eye powders, but don't like it when they scatter to places
on our faces where we don't want them. Bourjois solves this problem
with Suivez Mon Regard $16.00, a clever, clear, lucite "pot"
filled with loose, shimmery powders and a built-in applicator for more precise
placement. It comes in ten pretty shades bit our faves are #14 "Regard
Chocolat Dore" (dark brown)," a deep Khaki with gold-glinted #13 called
"Regard Kaki Mordore" and a medium blue with rose highlights:
#11 "Regard Blue Rose" Coppery #07 "Regard Ambre" will
be stunning on warm-toned women. For highlights, choose pearly ivory #10 "Illuminateur
du regard." Another great product by Bourjois is their
Spray Tres Paillete Glitter Spray $20.00. We sprayed this on
in the late afternoon, and it lasted through dinner, dancing, and way past midnight! This
is really a really pretty glitter product - the tiny specks of glitter make it
look like you've dusted yourself in tiny stars! Use it and get lots of compliments. Prestige
Cosmetics helps you look like a million (dollars, that is)
but their products won't send you to the poorhouse! All Over Shimmer Powder
$5.95 is a compact of pressed glimmer powder that is perfect and popular,
now. Glitz" (gold) and "Glam" (sheer ice) come in translucent pressed
powder (with a pretty, embossed snowflake design) to shine shoulders, face, anywhere,
anytime. For more glitter, try the new Jet Stream Shimmer Gloss $5.95

"Glitz" (gold) and "Glam (silver/multi). You'll also get a sweet,
vanilla-y scent to put your pout in a party mood. For
a bit of shimmer that's not in powder form, try Cover Girl Body Shimmer $4.99.
Squeeze a bit out of the portable tube. It's very sheer and sexy on cleavage,
shoulders, and necks. Our reviewer raved about the Gold Shimmer and dubbed it
a true holiday beauty bargain! This would make a cute stocking stuffer
for friends who crave a bit of glam, too. Zhen's
clever take-off on take-out, the Zhen Sister Glitter Gift Set $30.00
makes an impressive gift, or a treat for you. Housed in a clever, resusable
plastic "take-out" container, you'll find six sexy powder glitters named

Jane and Leigh." The loose glitter is finely milled so it really sparkles
wherever you dust it. You get three beautiful. holographic parti-colored glitter
in gold, silver and crystal, and three stunning jewel-tones of purple, red and
blue.
With a nod to 50's
Hollywood, Prescriptives All That Giltters $25.00 is a chic way
to get ready for any special occasion this holiday season. A melange of
four shades of gold (antique, yellow, white, 24 karat) create a bronzed base with
reflective pearls that shimmer and highlight your features. Use it anywhere you
want a hint of color and glimmer. You'll get a generously-sized lucite square
to dust on eyes, cheeks, decolletage (and we also dusted our on our lips,
adding clear gloss for even more impact). Good
things come in M·A·C Cosmetics compacts! Add style, shimmer and glitter t
your holidays with Iridescent Pressed Powder $18.50. We tried
"STAR!," a generously sized round of gold/peach color that warms up
even the sallowest skin in a shimmery, but subtle way. We loved it everywhere,
even on our lips (with a clear gloss), as a blush, and anywhere you want to look
"warm and shimmery."' If
you love shimmery colors in every shade of the rainbow, and you like products
that are multi-use, you will love Scarlett Cosmetics Glamo-Glitz $15.00
- shimmery, loose powders that can hold glitter, and come in literally
dozens of vibrant colors (we tried "Plum" and "Swanky," a
opal/beige). They can be used wet or dry. They're long lasting - glitter stays
where you put it. Mix with petroleum jelly and use on lips as a lip gloss.
Add water, make a paste, apply as mascara. Blend it with water for instant eyeliner.
Fun, glam and practical! Our
admiration for Shiseido goes back to our teens, when a kindly
(and very patient) woman at the Shiseido counter would give us samples. We'd take
them home, and consider them almost too precious to use. Happily, Shiseido
is still going strong with beautiful, sophisticated colors and high-quality
products. Two limited edition Shiseido The Makeup Lip glosses $20.00 each
from the Shimmering Sensations holiday collection are "Gold Glimmer"
and "Silver Gleam." Both add metallic sparkle to a lipstick or they
can be worn alone. "Silver Gleam" is particularly stunning, with tiny
flecks of iridescent glitter that catch the light and make your lips look even
better than "just shiny." Face
Stockhom's "Reach for the Stars" holiday collection is all
about understatement. Their holiday Lipstick $18.00 in
"Modesty" is a very light pink that slides on with a creamy feel, moisturizes,
and gives you a "mod" feel. It also makes a great base to soften a too-dark
color, or slick on an overcoat of Lip Gloss $15.00 such as beige-y
"Kindness" or any other color you choose! Jaqua
Brown Sugar Shimmer Body Dust $22.00 is a shimmer powder that glitzes your skin with
gold for a soft, sexy glow. Unscrew the cap of the large shaker jar, and you'll
find a pampering, champagne-colored puff to make application easy. For a
more sheer and precise application, mix this with a bit of your favorite body
butter or moisture lotion in the palm of your hand and smooth on instant glam!
"Worth every penny" is what
was said about M.A.C Glimmer Cream $19.50 in "Shimmerene."
This multi-purpose product lasts longer than powder since it's based in a smooth,
creamy base. Use it for highlights on eyes, to add interest to cheekbones,
to amp up your cleavage, or to make your shoulders more suggestive. It's strangely
subtle. Tiny flecks of gold aren't "over the top." If high-wattage glitter
is what you crave, get M.A.C. Glitter $14.00 in "Neon '60s."
It can be smoothed on skin to create an eye-popping visual effect you will

Tony
& Tina products are definitely "glam." For a simple shimmer
that can be applied several ways, try Tony & Tina Glamour Powder for
Face and Body $24.00 This loose shimmer powder can be used anywhere to
add a pretty highlight. It's an eyeshadow, blush or body shimmer, or mix it with
clear lip gloss! We liked the orange-y "Apricot," but "Nude"
and "Flesh" are more skin-toned. When your face and body spark Tony
& Tina Cosmic Lights $12.00 are IT when it comes to great
glitter products. Theirs are milled small, so you get real sparkle, without
huge chunks of "cheap" tinsel. When your face and body sparkle,
your personality will, too. You can use a finger to apply one of 14 great
colors, or mix it with a bit of body lotion to smooth on larger areas. "Starburst"
is a stunning copper glitter that really looks beautiful on everyone, everywhere
you put it. We added a dusting to our hair (set with hairspray). For a bold, holiday
look that can't help but shout "Christmas Party!" wear both "Vortex"
a grassy green, and "Charismatic", a bright red! New
from Paper Doll Cosmetics is a pretty, sheer, pink product called
"Body Blush." Choose brown or pink to add a hint of
color to cheeks, shoulders, or anywhere you feel a bit "pale." It's
"girly" and fun, and makes a pretty great stocking stuffer or travel
blush, too! Sue
Devitt Studio Starlights Clear Water Eye Shadow $22.00 in light pink
"Carina" adds a veil of shimmery light to your eyes. It's a beautiful
product! We love the little glass "teardrop" shape of the bottle,
and the cooling, long-lasting wash of awesome, shimmery, sheer pink which is so
amazingly pretty and adds so much allure in an instant that it's hard to describe.
